Call me uneducated if you must, but if you inject foreign code into a software like a game does that not count as a hack?

Can we just discuss how wrong Linus was in this video?  Don't get me wrong, I'm still going to follow linustechtips, but this "competition" was completely unfair.  Some comments from Youtube:

These are just a few. Linus, you should have at least discussed this with your employees or even had the community vote. That would be a MUCH better representation of what the COMMUNITY wants rather than just what YOU want.
It's also uncool to send the other contestants the winning model. At least send them their own if not nothing at all. Having the winning model would be a reminder that they lost and someone else won.

I feel like the winner was more a case of a like it because it's weird and different. I can't see that being hung off the wall and not feeling out of place.

Also I thought it was said that the point behind this competition was that we did the R&D and all Silverstone had to do was manufacture it and sell it world wide. Therefore the winner should have been imo opinion been decided almost like a gameshow. LMG users cast a vote on the top ten designs, after a week or so votes are tallied and than Linus can than declare the winner.

You need to understand the difference between exposure and advertisement. In advertisements you have to be positive and you are not allowed to show negative points about. The Ultimaker wasn't an advert, it was a review that effectively gave Ultimaker exposure. He was negative about some points (namely price) and positive about others.
 
If you think it's unethical to give Ultimaker exposure do so. But, don't call it a advertisement when it isn't.

You are ASSUMING a similar arrangement has been made to the machinima scandal, which, had we ever MADE an arrangement like that WOULD require the kind of disclosure you're talking about.
If we DIDN'T, and it's NOT an ad, and there is NO agreement about the positivity of the content (which as I've already said there wouldn't be for a review) then we COULD say more and I've already covered in the last thread that we intend to review this internally to figure out the best way forward.
This will be my last response to this on the forum though. I've already said my piece in the other thread
