if it's a little bit taller, shape the IHS around the chip so that the cooler only has to cool one surface but the entire die can be cooled. simple and remains compatible with most coolers.

Graphics are better than what Intel offers. The drivers are a mess though.

try for a t530 or w530, much nicer machines than the xx20 series due to the added usb3 and sata3.

*face merges with palms* its probably a defective display or digitizer - leading to the "phantom touching" where the display will stop working and the device will randomly touch. most likely caused by water ingress, which would line up with other parts of your story (bad usb port).

if you can get something like an rx 580 (the 1060 3gb isn't a bad card by any means but the 3gb cap will hurt you in the future) that would be better imho

fiio f3 or tin t2 if you can stretch your budget (will need new cable, but a very nice IEM and built like a tank)

you grossly underestimate the speed required for someone to run all disk functions over the network for a full OS. the pi has really slow networking since the ethernet uses the same bus as the USB ports do best idea would be to run a pxe boot server that serves up bootable isos (like maybe winPE or some Linux flavour) and have it run from RAM disk but I'd recommend 8GB min for larger OSes. best idea would be to scrap this idea completely and get something like a Lenovo T61 because no thief will steal a core 2 machine because they're not really worth that much. Built in anti theft, eh?
