Upgrade from a 7850 to a 760 was a noticeable improvement at 1080p - it will be even more so for OP coming from a 650Ti.

Because at 2.5k they should include one. That's like buying high end car and them saying well we thought you'd use your own special tyres.

Explain it to something she knows, like using a knife. Say to her, imaging you had to use a rubber or plastic knife to cut everything. It'd be hard and would hurt your hand after a while. Now try and do it with a precision cut metal blade. Much easier, comfier and doesn't hurt you after repitition. Or if she drives a car you could compare it to a nice mechanical feeling gearbox that gives you the satisfying click when changing gears, like in a Porsche, compared to a cheap gearbox.

    Something along the lines of:
    Design Define R4
    Phanteks TC 14 PE
2TB HDD (barracuda or blue, it doesn't really matter)
    240/250/256GB SSD
    A 780Ti or 2 290 (I'd go for dual 290 but wait until non reference) 4770k
A quality 850w PSU, something by Seasonic, XFX, Corsair, Coolermaster VS series. They're all going to be good, but aim for 80+ gold
16GB low profile and low voltage ram so you can overclock it without paying for the extra speed upfront.
And a quality motherboard. Generally speaking, all the boards are good now. Just get one with the features you want.
You won't make use of that ram for a long time, you could spend half on the ram and be fine, but it's what you want at the end of the day.

650w would be plenty for that build. RM 650 is a solid option. Seasonic also have some brilliant options, as well as bequiet. They're all worth looking at, you'll want to look at something around the price of an RM650 really, that'll give you a good view on how much to spend.
I'd get some other opinions first however as I'm not too familiar with the US market.

Have you tried using voodoo hda? Search for the installer online.
I think in some cases, and more so a few years ago, they were ridiculously overpriced - the same can be said about the current mac book pro. It's 1000 quid for a mechanical hdd and a 720p glossy screen. The macbook air and retina models are good value in my eyes as they offer more features at better prices.
In terms of mobile devices, they're lovely, but I just took an Ipad air back because it wasn't anywhere near as good as everyone said it was. Compared to my Xperia Z1 (something I'd naturally compare it to) it was slow, and apart from the screen, I didn't notice much of an improvement over the iPad 2 which I used to own. It wasn't worth the 479 that I paid for it any day of the week. It's just too expensive for something that feels outdated already and has a humongous markup. The new Nexus 10 excites me. Many people say they miss the apps - if I'm honest, I could get most of the apps, in fact I can't think of one I couldn't get, on Android that were available on iOS that I would use - and most of the free ones on Android are paid on iOS.
iOS 7, where to start. It's basically a skin over 6 with stupid unneeded transitions that take far too long and slow down the device. It feels old, and not premium like how safari was viewed, it's just plain slow and old. Android is quicker, and you can customise it to exactly how you want it. I didn't realise how good Android was until I started using iOS 7.

So much petty hatred in this thread.
iMac CANNOT be compared to anything using an ITX case. iMacs have a screen built in and look, in my opinion, simply stunning. They're the B&O of computers. Look amazing, but do not perform the best. At the end of the day, it's what the use wants out of their computer. If you want something that takes up less space, complete warranty (whole machine) and just works out of the box (in general, I'm not talking about the few that dont) then you're going to want an iMac. If you want better value for money, more options on what to have, more performance and want upgradeability without replacement, then a custom built computer will suit you better, especially as it's now really simple and easy to get Mac onto a custom built computer, as long as you're using compatible parts. Apples and oranges people, you can't compare two different things in the same way.
