  1. Hey all. I just graduated college with a CS degree, but I've never actually built my own or contributed to a significant software project outside of school assignments and one React/Django project. Here's what I want to build: a free piece of software that lets designers put dots (the marchers) on the field for each set and have the dots animate between each page. This would just be a top-down 2D view with a grid on the football field, nothing crazy. It should also have the ability to print out coordinate sheets for each individual marcher so that they can learn. I want this to be an app people can install, but I also think it would be cool to have a web app version so students with chromebooks could use it. Overall, this doesn't seem like that complicated of a project, but I'm having a lot of trouble choosing what to use. Originally I was going to do it in java because that's what I'm most familiar with, but then I thought that would be ugly and I would love to give this the ability to run in a web browser. So, then I was on React for the front and Rails for the back, but then I wasn't sure if React was really built for this kind of thing? Then I thought I could use the Unity 2D editor (which I have never used) to do a lot of the grunt UI work rather than trying to code it manually in react, but then I wasn't sure if Unity is really built to make tools rather than games? Really, I'm just intimidated by all of the options for developing in the real world outside of the university environment. I know how to code, but I don't know how to develop. Am I better off just sticking to React for the UI, is there something better? Is Unity a completely inappropriate tool for this sort of application? Any insight would be greatly appreciated!
  2. Yeah I see what you're saying. I think I'm gonna go with the 3600 just cause it's 30% cheaper and anything is a huge upgrade from what I have now. Thanks though!
  3. Budget: as little as possible Country: United States Games, programs or workloads that it will be used for: TV couch multiplayer stuff. Maybe some AAA titles after I graduate this May. TV is 4k Other details (existing parts lists, whether any peripherals are needed, what you're upgrading from, when you're going to buy, what resolution and refresh rate you want to play at, etc): i5 4460, 2080 Super (I know it makes no sense), 16gb ddr3 So this computer has been long overdue for a CPU upgrade. This was the first computer I built back in 2016, originally with an r9 380. I frankensteined a 2080 super into it after my roommate just gave me a 980 ti for free that I put in my desk rig. These are the two deals I'm looking at: $130 3600/mobo combo: https://www.microcenter.com/product/5006114/amd-ryzen-5-3600-with-wraith-stealth-cooler,-gigabyte-b450m-ds3h-wifi,-cpu-motherboard-combo $200 5600X/mobo combo: https://www.microcenter.com/product/5006263/amd-ryzen-5-5600x,-asus-prime-b450m-a-ii,-cpu-motherboard-combo I feel like it's smarter just to spend the extra $70 upfront, but also ANYTHING is an upgrade from my 4460. Not spending that $70 could cover more than the ddr4 I would need to buy. Do you all think it's worth the $70 to future proof or will I not notice the difference gaming at 4k. (My roommates play A LOT of Civ V btw)
  4. Yeah that is what it's behaving like. I'm probably going to end up doing a clean install. What steps do you recommend I take to make sure my drive is properly using the GPT partition style when I do a clean install? I'd rather just figure this out now as opposed to dealing with Microsoft not support windows 11 on machines that bypassed the requirement later.
  5. I've been trying to go through all the steps to enable secure boot to upgrade to windows 11. I feel like I've read a thousand different guides on the internet about this, but every tip keeps leading to a dead end on my machine (which is frustrating because I feel like my computer is a pretty vanilla setup). I'm pretty close to just giving up and waiting to upgrade until my next build, which I really don't want to do :(. Relevant components: CPU: i7-9700k GPU: 980TI MB: ASROCK Z390 Phantom Gaming 4S-IB So first, I did all the mbr2gpt stuff, which didn't actually work in WindowsPE or the fullOS version. So, I ended up dropping $20 on EaseUS cause I was done troubleshooting for 3 hours. That succeeded in converting my drive to GPT, so that's that step done and the drive is properly showing up as a GPT drive. Next, I tried to disable CSM in bios, but then I wasn't posting. I unplugged one of my monitors from my computer and for some reason that let it post. So great I'm posted, but now none of my boot drives are showing up. To fox this, I now try to update my bios (which was a pain because my mb wasn't on ASROCK's website, I had to sift through iBuyPower's stuff). BIOS successfully flashed. Still no boot drives. I check to see if UEFI is enabled for my GPU in GPU-Z. It is enabled. I can't really find any guides online for how to go about fixing this since it seems most people's problems go away way earlier in this process. Any help or insights would be greatly appreciated!!
  6. Ya. Honestly I love having the straw. I doubt the regular bottle uses the same lid
  7. And the boot too! I’m getting way too excited over accidental water bottle standards
  8. Just got my pink gift from lttstore.com but I didn’t like the lid coming off thing since I usually bring my bottle to a gym. Tried my hydroflask straw lid and it fits! Don’t know if that’s like water bottle cannon or if they’re supposed to do that, and I haven’t done like extensive leak testing. But I still think it’s pretty dope for anyone thinking ab getting one of these.
  9. So my Verizon Quantum router my family bought when we upgraded to gigabit a few years ago is not cutting it now. There's 6 people in the house. Little sister can't get Wi-Fi in her room upstairs, I can't get connection in the basement, the whole deal. A year or so ago my dad bought an extender for upstairs expecting that to fix it, but obviously that was never gonna end well. So mesh seems like the solution to the problem, issue is all the reviews on Amazon and YouTube seem to be from 2018. The best overall solution seemed to be Amazon's Eero with their pro router and a beacon that plugs into the wall. This is $299 with one beacon, and $399 for 2. The main issue I have with this is the price for the two modules. I'd like to have a point on every floor for the best connection. Plus, the beacons are only dual band, which I'm assuming will affect speed, but will it really that much? Once I found the TP-Link Deco x20, it seemed like way better of a choice. For $269, it's cheaper than any Eero option, comes with 3 modules, and has Wi-Fi 6. What I'm curious about is if this Wi-Fi 6 they're advertising is just a technicality rather than actual Wi-Fi 6 performance. I don't necessarily need the best that Wi-Fi 6 can offer, but I'm afraid that if this is an early adopter product it may be less reliable. The Deco x60 also seems to be an option at around $329 at Costco, so perhaps that would have significant performance improvements. Another concern I have with these Decos is that the few reviews of them online say that they don't have a wireless backhaul. I'm not sure how much this will affect performance, or if it's something that the Eero can do better. To me, the x20 or x60 seems like the obvious choice (although I'm not sure if the x60 is worth the extra $60), since both of these options are cheaper than the three module Eero. Plus, the Wi-Fi 6 seems like a benefit; but the only devices in my house that I know support it are some iPhone 11's, although I *think it deals with wireless interference better anyway. Any insight would be greatly appreciated!
  10. Yeah sorry my thing wasn’t that clear. It seems the main draw to the airpod pros vs the Sony’s is that the Sony’s aren’t classified as water resistant at all, and Sony’s website also advises again using them in a setting where water could get into them. I’m wondering if anyone here has the Sony’s and thinks that this is actually a problem.
  11. So I’ve been looking around online for the past few days now, and I haven’t been able to find a lot of the comparison into I’ve been wanting. So far, the Sony’s seem like the better option concerning sound and anc, plus being $50 cheaper currently, however they’re not water resistant. I’m not planning on swimming with them, but I’d like to be able to use them at the gym or in a light drizzle without too Koch concern. Also the airpods seem like they stay in your ear better and fit more comfortable, as well as not pick up wind noise like I’ve heard the Sony’s have had an issue with. ps I have an iPhone so yes I get all the ease of use stuff
  12. Whenever I stream Disney+ on my XPS 15, my external monitor (connected by thunderbolt to DVI if that's relevant) will go black for a second every few moments. I didn't post this in troubleshooting cause this isn't really a problem, since I can just unplug my monitor when I'm streaming Disney+. I'm just really confused why this happens and I wanted to ask all you people what you think the cause could be cause this is just really weird and I'm curious about it.
  13. Thank you for the response, but windows is not even detecting this display as existing, so even if I choose external monitor only, nothing is displayed.
  14. I just got this XPS 15 2019, with a GTX 1050ti (max q) and I have this old Dell monitor with a dvi and vga port that I wanted to use as a screen extension with an hdmi to dvi cable. However, when I plug the cable into the hdmi port, the monitor detects an input, but doesn't display anything. This is really confusing because this same cable and monitor worked on my friend's laptop with a GTX 1050, and I know the port works cause I plugged it into my hdmi tv. I already updated the drivers, so is there anything at all that this could be coming from?
