agent_x007 got a reaction from 8uhbbhu8 in Show off your old and retro computer parts
My collection huh... OK (pics taken 2016-2017)
Basics :
PCI-e GPUs (4870 is almost dead tho :() :
AGP GPUs :
PCI (NON-E) GPUs :
Creative Sound Blaster (modern, ie. EAX 3.0+) :
Creative legacy + compatible (emulation) :
MIDI update to Creative legacy :
Raptor HDDs :
LGA 775 CPUs (because I love that platform ;)) :
Collection is a bit bigger now (GPU/CPU pics are from late 2016).
Advanced, a.k.a. "Madness" PC (Core i7 980X + Rampage II Extreme with DOS/Win98SE/2k/7/etc. boot platform, on picture beneath is using my 6800 GT Reference "Blue LED". from ASUS) :
PS. And here are newest members of my PCI-e GPU collection :

What is meant by "compatibility with older stuff" in PCs.
Universal Computer ("Madness") : Pick your poison for best OS
Windows 98 SE (Single Thread only) :
Cinebench 2003 : LINK
Windows 2000 SP4 (Dual Core max.) :
Cinebench 2003 : LINK
Cinebench R11.5 x86 : LINK
Windows XP SP3 :
Cinebench 2003 : LINK
Cinebench R11.5 x86 : LINK
Windows 7 x64 SP1 (all updates) :
Cinebench 2003 : LINK
Cinebench R11.5 x86 : LINK
Cinebench R11.5 x64 : LINK
Cinebench R15 : LINK
Windows Server 2016 (up-to-date) :
Cinebench 2003 : LINK
Cinebench R11.5 x86 : LINK
Cinebench R11.5 x64 : LINK
Cinebench R15 : LINK
Notes :
No hardware changes were made between OS switches (simple OC profile change)
Windows 98 SE and WIndows 2000 can be directly compared.
Windows 7 x64 SP1 with Windows Server 2016 share the same settings for CPU/RAM, but use different GPUs (blame M$/NVIDIA).
Windows XP... simply put : Best Windows XP with official support (drivers for stuff)
Intel reference cooling for Core i7 980X was used.
Best scores (I would like to be added) :
2003 :
R11.5 x86 :
R11.5 x64 :
R15 :
Thank you.
PS. Funny how CPU-z always fails to display some kind of info in every OS...
(CPU-z for Win98 would crash on Win98SE when started on this PC).

?
Why you can't set 4GHz on 3930k ?
I had 4,65GHz set on my i7 3820 just a few days ago
Go to BIOS, set max. Turbo multiplier to "40" on all cores and it should work @4GHz (boosting when needed).
I doubt you even would need to change Vcore at this speed too.

I think you got the wrong idea... this is a 65nm "D0" Netburst Pentium, it definitly can do 5GHz on Air

agent_x007 got a reaction from Ithanul in Why Does GPU Technology Advance Faster Than CPU Technology?
Intel "tweaks" x86 since 1978, and first "GPU" was from 1999 (at least in name ;)).
There is only so much you can improve at this point in x86.
The other way to look at it is this :
GPU's are "easy", because they operate on bilions of pixels (you usually don't need to know color of one pixel to get to the next one).
CPU's in most cases need to calculate something first, before moving on to the next thing.
"Moar cores" strategy is good for now, but it can't help when program simply doesn't scale with more cores.
I would like to know what Intel does beyond 7nm era...

agent_x007 got a reaction from Andrewf in Does my motherboard support M.2?
You don't need UEFI board to support NVMe booting (only a legacy bootable drive/device is required).

agent_x007 got a reaction from Seanzky in How do I clone my SSD to a boot-only NVMe?
This means it ALSO supports booting from M.2.
Not that it ONLY supports booting.
There is no way in hell, there are "boot only", and "data only", M.2 slots
Remember that you will lose SATA ports when M.2 slot is used.

Based on resolution ?
... I'll bite :
High End : GTX 1080 Ti
Mid-High : GTX 1080/1070 or RX Vega
Mid End : GTX 1060 6GB/RX 580
Mid-Low : GTX 1060 3GB/RX 570
Low : GTX 1050 (Ti)/RX 560
OEM : GT 1030.
^That's how I see this generation.
I don't belive in Titan/Quadro/Tesla or AMD's "Fire" series stuff.
It's nice it's there, but I don't buy into cash grabbing (unless, someone actually needs their features).

Sure.
Get a PCI-e adapter for M.2 (mentioned earlier will do), and use Duet or Clover software if you want to boot Windows OS from it (no UEFI on your board prevents it from booting natively).
