I'm currently having an issue where whenever my desktop isn't asleep or off my wifi channel just drops. I've had this issue before and playing with Ethernet cable positions resolved it, this time I can't seem to get it under control. currently I have the internet line running into my modem, Port 1 is my desktop's wired network and port 2 leads to my router. By changing the ports i was able to get it to work for about 20 minutes before it went down again .Any help is appreciated.

I'm looking to fiddle around with more linux, I've used ubuntu as a dual boot roughly 5 years ago, and elementary OS as a flash drive test drive (didn't have persistent storage, ignorance on my part). I was curious about using the linux live usb creator to make a flash drive pc that I can keep a couple of applications on, mostly just schoolwork. I really only want to have access to an IDE and sql, netbeans or intelliJ are preferable to me, the stickler I'm finding out is SQL server. SQL documentation says it supports ubuntu (like 16.0). I'm looking at either ubuntu or manjaro, open to other options of course, I'm not very familiar with compatibility across the distros which is holding me back thus far.

Earlier I installed the intel update from windows update. during the restart it turns out the update failed and it wouldn't boot to the login screen. I just chose the 'advanced' option of reinstalling windows and keeping my files, so it goes through said process and I get onto the desktop and there are a few things still floating there (D&D book pdfs and league of legends icons), I installed steam and none of my games are installed but my disk space usage suggests I still have them installed on the disk. I don't really have anything of importance on this drive so its whatever but I was wondering if there were a way, short of formatting, to delete some of the game files to clear up some space?

Starting yesterday night my wifi on my laptop became insanely slow, the other computer on the network has normal internet functionality still but mine will time out most actions. It was working fine earlier that day at a relative's house. I made no changes to the settings between that point now. The computer is set up where I usually have it, so the range or signal strength shouldn't be too much different than baseline. wifi properties shows I have no IPv6 connectivity, I had an issue with missing network protocols; however, this was remedied by windows network diagnostics (or so it says). pinging google.com from the command prompt usually shows a failed first attempt with 4 time outs, while the retry will usually complete with approx. 2-3 packets lost with around 366ms-1930ms response time. Not sure where to go from there, I've restarted the wireless network card, checked for drivers, restarted the computer (microsoft level IT right here). thanks for reading and hopefully you'll have some ideas. Well, now its started happening at roughly the half hour mark before I have to resort to a restart. Starting a few days ago my laptop ceased responding and I was forced to hard restart by holding the power button. Upon restarting I checked event viewer and saw it was caused from a Kernel-Power error (ID 41). From that point on I've had this happen every day after approximately a day of usage. I've had no hardware or software changes (or so I believe, windows 10 may have installed something against my will), What could this possibly be? I've decided to use my old dell laptop as a secondary machine pretty much dedicated to introductory programming (c++) and learning linux (two birds one stone). I've looked at Elementary OS and archlinux as good distros for c++ with programs like code blocks. But since I could count the number of hours I have with previous linux distros (ubuntu) on one hand I figured I should get a second opinion.

The pc stays on and all the fans remain operational but there isn't a post. There may be another gpu to use, I'm not sure as of this moment. We tested using a 1066mhz ram stick (we just underclocked one of the current ram sticks) and it has not yielded a different result. albeit I am not knowledgable enough to know where the xmp profile is saved so that may not have done any good. Board was DOA, the replacement worked without issue.

During the first bootup of my cousin's rig after an upgrade the monitor didn't get an output signal and went black. we used a Gigbyte GA-78LMT motherboard, fx 6300 cpu, hyper X 1600mhz ram 8gb (2 dimms), corsair 600m psu, and asus r9 270 direct CU ii. I was aware that the motherboad didn't support 1600mhz ram, however the reviews implied that people had used 1600mhz ram without problems. All power connections are correct, ram sticks have been checked for faulty operation. The psu, gpu, and ram had been used in the build prior to the upgrade so they should be fine. Unfortunately we don't have a bucket of ram sticks to check to see if that is the problem. I'm kind of wary about resetting the bios to factory defaults in the event that would revert it back to am3 and it wouldn't recognize the cpu. Any help would be extremely appreciated. .
