  1. Well yes, when you put it like that it does seem silly. I just wanted to know peoples opinions of Corsair in general since from many websites ive looked at people have opposing views on the quality of Corsair PSUs. To be fair the cx was rather cheap yes and it was a mistake since the rest of the hardware was not cheap. My intention is not to slate corsair, i just want a PSU which is going to last. The being skeptical was an exaggeration tbh since the PSU did do its job and not destroy any of the other components when surged. Also i was planning to RMA the old PSU, i would just like a PSU capable of supporting SLI as i already said which would be difficult on a 600w PSU. I appreciate the support though, even if it is picking apart my logic haha.
  2. Thankyou all, @BluJay614 @herman mcpootis @Oshino Shinobu you have all been a great help. Im looking at the RM 850x currently, since i do plan on future SLI. Even though my cx 600 died (due to an unfortunate power surge) the PSU was the only component to be affected and the other components are still working fine. If it wasnt for the 9 to 11 week dispatch time I would have ordered an EVGA g2 but i suppose the extra money for the RM 850x will be worth it. Also a lot of the PSUs such as the SuperNova g3 and Seasonic fusion are incredibly more expensive on the UK amazon site. (I suspect import costs have been added) Anyway, thanks for the help, i will evaluate my options and read the finer details before i jump in and purchase one but for the moment its looking like the RM850x.
  3. Hi, i have a small issue regarding power supplies, currently i am in need of a new PSU capable of running my rig. (i7 4790k, 980ti and potentially SLI in future hence needing 750w) I originally planned to get the 750W EVGA G2 or GQ model, the only problem with this is that i can only purchase the PSU through amazon currently since my money is on an amazon gift card given to me. As you can see https://www.amazon.co.uk/EVGA-Modular-Warranty-Supply-210-GQ-0750-V3/dp/B017RO39TK/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1503670365&sr=8-1&keywords= it will take 9 to 11 weeks for me to receive the psu. My question is can anyone recommend a different 750w PSU which is available from amazon. Im sceptical of corsair since my last PSU was a cx 600 which has recently died. Thanks in advance.
  4. yeah, i mean the amp and dac sorry, ive seen some such as the Fiio range of amps which look promising from the reviews, i just wanted to get an idea of whether it would be worth the money over the standard Amp and dac codec built into the devices.
  5. Hi all, ive been looking into external dacs recently in an effort to boost the sound quality of my music. I currently have a pair of Sennheiser Momentums and a nexus 6 and my friend has the oneplus 3 with the Sennheiser Urbanites. My question to you is do you think an external DAC would improve the quality of either of these phones/headphones or are the existing codecs already a decent standard?
  6. There is enough budget to switch over to the fx-4300 build, however if i were to go for the pentium, i would have to compensate on other components like the planned GPU (preowned radeon 7950)
  7. Hi guys, im designing a cheap gaming pc for one of my friends, he only has a £300 budget. I have most of the components worked out, such as GPU, RAM, SSD etc, but the part i need help with is the CPU and motherboard. My original plan was to pick up a 775 socket motherboard, and install a modded 771 xeon processor in there, as ive seen the performance benchmarks of them and was fairly impressed. I dont doubt my ability to perform the modification to the socket, but my question for you guys is, should i get him the Xeon mod? or go for something like a pentium anniversary edition or an amd fx-4300? Thanks in advance.
  8. I plan on getting another 980ti in the future, and my 4790k draws quite a lot of power too with being overclocked, thats the reason im going for 850s. I will take a look at what seasonic and evga have to offer.
  9. Hi, im thinking of upgrading my power supply in my PC since my little 600w is coming to the end of its life. The PSU i was going to go for was the corsair RM850x Just wondering if any of you guys have the RM850x and can vouch for it, or whether the CS or HX series are worth buying instead. My budget for the PSU is about £100 so obviously the HX series are out of reach. Thankyou for your help in advance.
  10. I would honestly recommend buying a copy of windows 8/7 just so you have the choice to backdate from windows 10 if you need to, i had a pc that simply would not get on with windows 10 whatsoever, and even when all drivers were updated and correct, it would still get tons of bsods caused by windows 10, so i backdated it to windows 7 and it was fine, its always good to have the option to backdate just in case
  11. Also, in terms of actually building it, watch some of LTTs videos on youtube, they build quite a lot of PCs on there. and i would recommend having someone with you when your building it because some parts like the liquid coolers are quite difficult to mount by yourself.
  12. http://pcpartpicker.com/p/6dq8D3 Something like this would be the best possible tower for that budget, then obviously you can tweak it depending on which version of windows you prefer/ if you dont like the case, and possibly downgrade the GPU to a regular 980 if you wanter a better monitor.
  13. is this something i need to fix? or does it not matter?
  14. Hi, i have an asus transformer book tp300la, and whenever i tilt it around to use it as a tablet it makes a buzzing noise, i think this buzzing noise is either an internal fan or the HDD, was just wondering if anyone knows a quick fix, or if theres anything i can do to fix it.
  15. As long as there isn't too much of an age difference between the router and modem they should work fine. Powerline adapters work with extension cables, but often lose a lot of their speed, especially if the extension has surge protection. And the most powerful ethernet cable within the consumer market is the cat 6 cable.
