  1. Was stress testing Ryzen 5 1600 at 3.8GHz when I noticed on afterburner that my cpu was spiking around 10 degrees then going back to normal, this would happen at around 10 second intervals. Any reason I should be concerned? I was seeing this even before I added the overclock, however it was only 2-3 degrees so I just ignored it. It has never been this severe...

  3. Hello! I recently finished my new PC and I want to get into overclocking. I have done a little research into system stability tests and plan on using AIDA64, Cinebench and Passmark for testing CPU stability and I plan on using Memtest86 (or Memtest64 I don't know which one to use) and Passmark for RAM testing. Any advice on any other programs I could/should use to test stability and any overclocking tips are appreciated. CPU - Ryzen 1600 RAM - Team - Vulcan DDR4 2400
  4. My second pc build ever and I have no idea, title says all, after about 5 mins of continued use the pc will freeze. Not just the program I'm using or anything, but the whole thing, keyboard, mouse, screen everything. All my drivers are installed and up to date. For some reason this issue does not happen when I boot into safe mode (that's how I installed the drivers). I have tried: completely reinstalling windows, reinstalling display drivers, booting into safe mode (the issue does not occur in safe mode as I said). The issue seems to happen if my gpu is doing any more work than literally just my desktop. If I open chrome or try to do anything in task manager it will crash after about 5 mins. My system specs: - CPU - Ryzen 1600 - CPU Cooler - Corsair 100i v2 - Mobo - Asus B350-Plus - RAM - 16gb Team Vulcan - Boot drive - Samsung 250gb SSD (recycled from old pc) - Storage drive - Seagate 2tb HDD (recycled from old pc) - GPU - Gigabyte Windforce 970 (second hand from a friend) - PSU - EVGA nex650g OS - Windows 10 home edition (64) I'm about 60% sure that it is my GPU that is the problem at this point, however I don't have any other gpus to test with. Any advice would be great.
  5. This is my second pc build and I haven't managed to Install any drivers yet bacause my pc keeps freezing before I can download them. OS - Windows 10 Home 64 bit Specs; Cpu - Ryzen 1600 (stock) Mobo - Asus Prime B350 plus RAM - 16gb team vulcan ddr4 GPU - second hand gigabyte g1 gaming windforce gtx 970 storage - old seagate 2tb hdd, 250 gb samsung ssd PSU - EVGA 650g supernova (650w) I just got finishing wiping all of the drives in this pc clean and they didn't have this problem before I reset windows.

So in my next build I am using an Asus Prime B350 Plus and I noticed it had a few conventional PCI slots on it, after a bit of googling I saw that there hasn't been any development of the conventional PCI technology since 2004 with the introduction of conventional PCI 3.0 and PCI Express. So why are manufacturers continuing to include this (lets face it) quite outdated standard on modern motherboards? After a bit of brainstorming I was only able to come up with a few reasons; Backwards compatibility - Why you would want to continue to use anything in 2018 from pre-2010 still has me scratching my head... Testing - Some people who collect old computer hardware may want to test if something of theirs still works. Why you would do this with a modern motherboard and not something from that era that you know works, again, has me stumped. Make it look like there are more slots than there actually are - Filling empty space on a motherboard so that the product looks like a higher quality than it actually is while also nudging consumers toward the higher end products that have a full compliment of PCI Express slots. Of these 3 reasons In my opinion the third is probably the most likely, (this is probably not actually the case, but) there may be some sort of fee that motherboard manufacturers have to pay to PCI-SIG based on the amount of PCI Express slots on a motherboard and since conventional PCI is an old technology manufacturers put it into modern products to make them seem like they are a higher quality than they actually are. There are reasons this may not actually be the case, if PCI-SIG saw that manufacturers were using conventional PCI in their products then they would probably instigate a similar fee to PCI Express . This line of reasoning however assumes that PCI-SIG does charge a fee with the use of their technology. It could simply be a case that it is easier and cheaper to install conventional PCI slots on motherboards than it is to install extra PCI Express slots. I also stated that manufacturers could be trying to nudge consumers towards higher end products that have full compliments of PCI Express slots and this is what makes this argument seem the most plausible. They are making the lower end products feel/look (at least on a sub-conscious level) higher quality while also nudging consumers to the more expensive higher end products. Thoughts? Edit: A few people have pointed out that sound cards seem to be really the only use for these ports, but aren't there sound cards that use PCIE?
