Hey guys, so I'm currently planning a build for my mother who is very frustrated with her current pc, that is pretty old and slow. Can you please help me find the best build, that suits her needs and is relatively cheap. As she will not game with it, a dedicated GPU probably won't be necessary. Main requirements: - Office work (Word, Excel...) - Ability to watch DVDs (no external drive) - Relatively silent - small form factor There is no real budget, but it shouldn't cost more than necessary. This is, what I have so far: PCPartPicker part list / Price breakdown by merchant CPU: Intel - Core i3-7100 3.9GHz Dual-Core Processor (€101.90 @ Caseking) Motherboard: MSI - B250I PRO Mini ITX LGA1151 Motherboard (€87.23 @ Amazon Deutschland) Memory: Kingston - FURY 8GB (1 x 8GB) DDR4-2133 Memory (€75.99 @ Amazon Deutschland) Storage: Samsung - 850 EVO-Series 250GB 2.5" Solid State Drive (€95.90 @ Amazon Deutschland) Storage: Seagate - Barracuda 2TB 3.5" 7200RPM Internal Hard Drive (€63.72 @ Amazon Deutschland) Case: Fractal Design - Core 500 Mini ITX Desktop Case (€57.80 @ Amazon Deutschland) Power Supply: be quiet! - Pure Power 10 CM 400W 80+ Silver Certified Semi-Modular ATX Power Supply (€61.99 @ Amazon Deutschland) Optical Drive: LG - BH16NS55.AUAR10B Blu-Ray/DVD/CD Writer (€69.99 @ Amazon Deutschland) Total: €614.52 Prices include shipping, taxes, and discounts when available Generated by PCPartPicker 2017-09-15 23:08 CEST+0200 Thanks for your help

Hello, my Problem is the following: - I was updating my pc after my vacation -> everything worked fine - to let windows install updates, i shut the pc down (or hit reboot, i'm not 100% sure) - when the pc was off i tried to turn it back on, but nothing happened (no lights turn on, no fans start to spin, not even for a few seconds, just as if it had no power) - i also tried the power-button directly on the mobo Trouble-shooting steps so far: - different power cord - different power plug How likely is it, that the psu is the problem? Are there any other possible problems? Specs: PSU: Antec TruePower 650 Mobo: AsRock Z170 Extreme4 CPU: 6600k GPU: MSI GTX 970 I have another psu installed in my nas, that I could use to test, but I don't want to take it apart if I dont have to. Thanks for your help

DIY Pancakes - what is the best pancake recipe?
SiriousArts replied to SiriousArts's topic in Off Topic
Thanks! I'll try that Thanks I already know how to do these and they are great, but Pancakes! (And the memories...) Awesome! You're my man Glad you didn't get caught -
Hello So, about 15 years ago I lived in Toronto (Canada) for about 1 year. There I learned to love pancakes Sadly here in germany there are no good just-add-milk-and-an-egg-mixtures available. All online recipes I could find so far just didn't turn out very good aswell, so I thought I could ask here, where some Canadians might know THE recipe So what are good recipes you know? Thanks for the help!

You are right! The case is great. But 185 USD... Ugh

Well, you should mainly be able to use DVDs and CDs. BuRay is not neccesary but maybe nice to have

Hello guys, I am currently planning to build a pc for my parents. It generally doesn't need that much power so I am planning to build a mATX maybe even ITX PC. The main component I am currently looking for is a case. As the PC is going to be at a desk in the living room I want it to look awesome/stylish, but not "gamery" at all. Generally I really like the Enthoo Evolv mATX, but as my parents want to have an optical drive, I wont be able to use it. My question now is, do you know a similar case, or maybe even something entirely different that meets the following criteria? - is rather small (ITX, mATX) - has an optical drive bay - is not to old (has at least 2 USB 3.0 ports) - looks good in a living room (- preferably aluminium, TG, maybe even wood..) Or, do you maybe have a good idea for an external drive that might work well too? Thanks for your help

Website builder that spits out html files?
SiriousArts replied to GigabitXe's topic in Programs, Apps and Websites
https://webflow.com might be an option for you Its fairly easy to use and doesnt require much html css knowledge. Also check out HTTrack -
I'd rather go with an overkill cooler + fan. I am cooling my NAS-CPU (i3 6100) with a Dark Rock 3 with the included silent wing fan. Normally you cant hear a thing when its at 300rpm. But if there is load on the cpu it can ramp up and keep it cool. Also if your are planning to have case fans anyway, that one fan at low rpm wont make a difference at all.

Some advice for a home server build.
SiriousArts replied to Mitrixlance's topic in Servers, NAS, and Home Lab
We need some more info to be able to properly help you. What is the server supposed to do? 10 devices at once? If not, how many devices at once? -
Which CPU is right for me?
SiriousArts replied to PCbuilderJR's topic in CPUs, Motherboards, and Memory
Not really, as he is planning to game and stream at the same time. It would "work", the question is just how well. The 7500 would be just fine for gaming alone, but if you also have a stream running, it is recommended to have more than 4 cores, so that the games and the streaming (video processing etc) don't have to compete for the cores as much. @PCbuilderJR At this point in time I would definitely recommend to wait for ryzen and see how well it performs. Then either build a system around that platform (if it's good) or build your system on X99, then with (maybe) a bit lower prices. For Gaming, Video Editing and streaming I would definitely go with more than 4 cores. -
can it run a server?
SiriousArts replied to deleteduser1535945's topic in Servers, NAS, and Home Lab
You can actually run a minecraft server on a pi, though it will not support a lot of players at once. 2-3 players with only a few plugins should work. -
Was it like that from the start or did it get worse? I guess its defective and would return it if possible.

Maybe your sd-card is broken.. Do you have another one to try it?

How did you install the OS on the SD card? If you haven't already try to reinstall following these steps: https://www.raspberrypi.org/learning/software-guide/quickstart/
