  1. might sound stupid but did you look into why your old GPU died? Im thinking you might have a lumpy power supply which killed your old card and is giving you grief on the new one... Sounds plausible at the very least
  2. go for the x version of whichever AMD GPU you go if you can stretch the extra for it apart from the 390x just get a 390 in that case mate
  3. yeah. i have finally sorted this so thanks for your help. Because i didnt know what all the timings meant or where to put each figure i had exactly i ended up firstly loading up the xmp profile which set all the data for me. i then manually selected 1866 speed and changed the xmp option back to auto. This saved the timings etc from the xmp profile but lowered the speed to within my boards capabilities. I then saved and exited. Once tested and seemingly running great at 1866 i bumped the speed... and just the speed to 2133 and all is well its stable and I'm happy
  4. its not something stupid like a broken fan or the plug for the cooler come off is it? if it heats up itll surely drop fps. Id also try every recent driver one by one.
  5. maybe then you can get him on steam with some nice new titles included too
  6. will the mobo take another GPU? maybe use what you have and score another 750ti? For a free PC the components you have are pretty decent IMO Id use what i have and buy a nice case, quiet fans etc and make something nice. Just be generous on the items you need to add to the things you have?
  7. just to add I was under the impression that the timings directly related to the speed so to go 1866 id need the timings, same for 2133 and 1600 if you get my meaning
  8. thanks for the advice. ill give it a try. so i set my timing as per the RAM and then start upping the speed. The default is 9-9-9-24 but id still like to get the info for the 1866 and the 2133 of the same model ram so i can try that also.
  9. also which components have you already purchased/got in your posession? Id bin off the 960 for a better $ per FPS on and AMD r9 in the same price bracket. Plus im of the opinion you run nvidia on intel and AMD with AMD for smoothest results and least issues
  10. personally id be in the BIOS looking over the temps and turning the idle speeds down on the fans so its only loud when it has to be. Id also double check all your settings. things like the RAM speed and default boot drive etc. Just to make sure its as it should be and to ensure it works as it should. Then go and grab the latest drivers for all of your components if you havent already
  11. ok to update i got a display port to hdmi cable and tried it to find i still had no bios on my screen when i fire up my PC. I then came across a similar thread and someone from ASUS had answered that their BIOS only worked on a 1024 native display. Anyway i borrowed my mums monitor and a DVI cable and got straight in with no issues. So ive ordered a dvi to vga adaptor so i can use my tv's pc input VGA for any BIOS needs. I now have a new issue which id like some help with. When i go into the BIOS i see my ram running at DDR3 1333 and the sticks i bought are rated at DDR3 2400 So i clicked the XMP profile, save and exit thinking im all sorted. My computer then beeped differently to normal and gave me the blue screen with the smiley face. I had to turn off the XMP profile for it to work. My ram is listed as DDR3 2400 11-13-13-31 @ 1.65v Its running 1333 @ 1.5v I realise my board is only rated to 1866 and says 2100+ (oc) in the specs so i presumed it would set its self up as fast as it could by default not as low as it could by default. I think i need the settings data for the same vengeance pro 2x8gb sticks but in either 2133 or 1866 and manually input the data into the BIOS or can I set it up using cpuz or overdrive or something like that?
  12. this would work so well in my front room. i like the sizeand design, would save me building an itx for the job. id really like to win it. first video ive been so tempted to have a try!
  13. yeah thanks for the info. I realised as soon as i thought about it that the info is given to me in various formats that basically add up to the same. I also agree the runs around my place are not too long at all. i think the longest pair are somewhere in the 12-15m length so i should be able to run gigabit lan easily enough. Thing is though that because ive got 3x all in ones the signal is solid because of the fact the devices plug into one and the all in one then sends the signal to the master. If i use a plug which goes directly back to my master (i only have one) the speed is ever so slightly lower (0.5Mb/s) on average. i also like the fact i have 3 access points which are only used for phones and or tablets, all set on the same ID and PW so i seemlessly pass from one to another on wifi all without the phone knowing its switched. I do use 3 separate channels but thats it. If i go to gigabit (which id like) then id get alot faster speeds to and from my NAS and also from PC to laptop etc but to keep things as they are id need 3x all in ones. AND my IP provider is notoriously anti anything but their own hardware
  14. still nobody have any advice or remedy for this issue? As a note i have ordered the cable i think i need DP to HDMI so i can use the DP on the GPU to see if it is as i think the native or number1 output on the GPU
