  1. I'll just add - libraries have kind of integrated into the default user folders, and they can still be moved. Navigate to C:\Users\<username> in Explorer and all the folders with icons (Desktop, Downloads, Pictures, etc) can be moved by right clicking, going to properties, and then going to the location tab. This will set a lot of defaults to then use your secondary drive for storage instead of your OS drive, however the odd application will still default to using the OS drive (I think Radeon ReLive is an example of this), but you can usually change this to go to your storage drive anyway; it's just something to look out for.
  2. Running: Windows 8.1 Pro w/ Media Center Intel RST 15.9.0.1015 (AFAIK latest with support for Win 8) Hardware: ASUS Z97 Deluxe WiFi/NFC i7 4790k at stock, MCE on. Noctua NH-U9S w/ 2x NF-A9 Sapphire RX 580 Nitro+ Storage: see image. EVGA 80+ White 800W Custom SFF case (~ 20 Litres), 2x NF-A8 intake, PSU exhaust. Description: The above Task Manager screenshot is not long after boot, and I’d just restored a Chrome session with a bunch of tabs. Regardless, latencies >1s are common. Between POST and the Windows boot option between 8.1 and 10, it takes ~2 mins where the spinny circles are spinning. This is considerably slower than when I was running just a single 250 GB drive; see bottom paragraph. I should add that when little IO activity is taking place, I have seen latencies as low as 0.1 ms - it’s only when there’s significant amounts of IO - which RAID 0 is supposed to be twice as good at compared to a single drive. My thoughts and potential diagnoses, in order of what I think the probability of fixing the issue is: (1) The stripe size is sub-optimal (though I followed what appeared to be the recommended configuration from Intel) (2) I am running in a SFF case with not brilliant airflow, so the PCH could be overheating and throttling (3) a reinstall would fix this due to the way I migrated my install onto the RAID. (see next paragraph) Migration process: RAID’d the two SanDisks inside Windows 8.1 running on my single Samsung 850 Evo 250 GB, (did a bunch of upgrades accross multiple machines and ended up with 2x 120 GB drives I figured I’d RAID 0 in place). I then used gparted after installing mdadm in a live Ubuntu Linux to clone all partitions across, though had to move the start of my Linux home partiton forward due to migrating from a 250GB to a 240GB volume. The above text is duplicated in the imgur post. What could be causing response times so slow, and what could be done to fix it?
  3. I was meaning in terms of getting into the network in the first place to shut off the power if the server isn't responding - if I had a second system running that I could also remote into it would be fine
  4. @iced colt Well, I guess it's worth a shot rather than waiting for someone to have a decent deal on a low powered Xeon over here in the UK so I don't have to pay import charges... @Electronics Wizardy Ooh... A PDU isn't a bad call, but if it's the server that goes down, it wouldn't be easy to remotely restart it. I suppose I could get something like a Pi to ping the server and the server to ping the Pi... This would probably end up being the cheapest option combined with a Z97 or H97 mobo.
  5. I'm going to get an ASUS P9D-m motherboard. I just upgraded my 4690K in my desktop to a 4790K, so have a 4690K spare. I've been meaning to build a NAS, and want the iPMI support from server motherboards (I've had linux servers freeze on me and refuse to reboot via SSH and force a hardware reset). I'm also tempted by the low power xeons, but until then, I want to use my 4690K in the socket 1150-based P9D-m. On ASUS's site, it says it's not supported. Do you reckon I should try it, or sell the 4690K and get a supported Xeon instead?
  6. Name: Luggable (Will be putting into a custom AIO case for full size ATX / EATX motherboards) CPU: i5 4690k @ 4.1 GHz @ 1.3 V (Silicon lottery :'( ) GPU: AMD R7 370 @ 1035 MHz and NVIDIA 8800GT @ 325 MHz Hybrid PhysX card (Passively cooled with custom universal cooler). (Do not recommend unless you have it lying around ) RAM: 12 GB DDR3 @ 1333 MHz Score: 0.1 [Whilst I'm not intending to do VR any time soon, and am intending on upgrading my GPU for 4k VSR / DSR (purely for desktop use on my 1080p display - and am waiting for a 21.5" IPS Freesync / G-Sync monitor, so probably Freesync and an AMD GPU)]
  7. I could really use a full size mech keyboard as I keep forgetting if Num lock is on on my QuickFire TK ... Oh and I need a new mouse as my one for my ultrabook died...
  8. Is it still open? - Kova, it is
  9. It would be much easier to take around to LANs etc. (even if I decided to add an external hotswappable Steam library...)
  10. I wouldn't mind that keyboard (along with everything else... I also miss not having a headset as it's on RMA)! I'm currently using a Cherry MX Brown CM Storm QuickFire TK Stealth, but find it annoying to switch between the navigation keys and number pad, so wouldn't mind going back to a full size - but I don't own a Cherry MX Brown full size keyboard :'( ... I do like that aluminium shroud and love the inclusion of the PS/2 adapter
