Not if you do it properly. You create a new (larger) array, copy the existing values into it, add the new value, then "throw away" the old array (i.e. no more references to it, so the garbage collector will take care of it).
    // New array with a larger size final var newArray = new String[this.array.length * 2]; // Copy values to the new array System.arraycopy( this.array, // the array to copy from 0, // the starting position newArray, // the array to copy to 0, // the starting position this.array.length // the number of items to copy ); // Add the new item newArray[this.array.length] = newItem; // Old array is now out of scope and can be garbage collected this.array = newArray;
That's pretty much how ArrayList<T> works internally. When you create a new instance, it'll create a small array (e.g. new T[10]). When you add more items, it'll create a new array (e.g. x2 in size), copy the values over, then replace the old array with the new one. Note that the initial size and growth factor are only examples and may differ between Java versions and/or the developer (e.g. Oracle vs OpenJDK).

It's always a good idea to use "new ArrayList<>(someSize)" if you have a rough idea how large your list will get. It'll avoid needless copying and resizing any time you exceed the old internal capacity.

E.g. if you add one more item to a list whose array is at maximum capacity, it might create room for many more items, even though you'll never need it. That's why functions such as ".trimToSize()" exist. Once you know you'll add no more items, you can use it to ensure the internal array is only as large as it needs to be. Something to keep in mind when you work with lots of lists that grow dynamically.

Creed1 reacted to SweetSurrenderD in 5600x RAM Speed (3200MHz vs 3600MHz)
3200MHz is just enough, the 5000 series Ryzen CPUs do perform better with 4 sticks of RAM tho, but that's only if you're going for like 64GB of RAM because who would want 4 sticks of 4GB RAM?
But, yeah 3200MHz is enough for the new Ryzen CPUs

Creed1 reacted to 5x5 in Asus Caught Being Malicious - Zephyrus G15 has fan vents blocked by black paper. Reason Unknown
So recently, a few youtube channels and people on Reddit have taken to repasting their Zephyrus G15 models and have stumbled upon something very peculiar. The fan cut-outs for airflow are blocked by black paper for seemingly no reason. Asus have failed to give adequate reasoning as to why those covers exist as removing them yields a universal improvement to the laptop. Thermals go down by 5-10*C on both CPU and GPU and clockspeeds go up.

SPECULATION: The current hypothesis I've read here and on several other forums is that this is yet another bribe from Intel to make the mobile Ryzen 4000 look hot and bad. But that sounds a bit far fetched to me. While Intel have done VERY shady (and illegal things) in the past, we need more evidence to corroborate any such claims. Currently, it remains as Asus' retarded decision. But it's peculiar that this black paper has only appeared on the Zephyrus G15 and the older Ryzen 3750H-based GA502. The Zephyrus M and other Zephyrus models have all had open fan ventilation. This is the primary piece of evidence people have used to give credence to the Intel theory.

I welcome thoughts and opinions. @genexis_x and @LukeSavenije will have a fun time with this one I bet
Also, @Princess Luna gets a tag cause ❤️

I'd rather give him/her some easy programming puzzles for kids to learn programming with some fun rather than pure gaming and you tubing.

The best way to learn is to just use it. Install it natively, use it for daily tasks, try to use the terminal when you can.

I'm not qualified for this, but it would be easier for others to help if you stated what your current settings are, what your current average FPS is, and what hardware you use.

My guess is just a faulty drive. Get a Linux bootable drive, and pull any data you can access of that drive. Check the SMART disk status also to see if the drive has reading errors. It could also be things such as an MBR configuration problem or something like that, but my guess is a faulty drive due to symptoms prior to the error message.

That sounds about right for a gaming laptop. Try undervolting if possible. My laptop (7700hq) had a decent decrease in temperature by undervolting.

Creed1 reacted to BlakeRoyce in SURFACE GO REVIEW
This will be long, while I'd love a shoutout in the video to know the team saw this, I'd settle with seeing my points in the review. I got this... Yesterday. And my feelings are... mixed. Let's start with pros, this is light, thin, and may I say, sexy, as sexy as a macbook. The color accuracy competes with laptops 1000-2000 dollars more. And the webcam is much the same. The type keyboard being able to separate and simply walk away is a feature to love. Now to the caveats. I did say separate, while you can flip the keyboard around, didn't many of us buy this to avoid the awkwardness of pressing keys on a 2 in 1? And the battery is not 9 hours, during simple redditing and other light use, it lasts 4 hours from 100% to 10%. And while this is both a con and a pro, it ships in Windows S mode. While some people may like S, st of us will switch it, making it so that you need to wait approximately 30 minutes from turning it on for the first time to actually using it. But S mode is how it is supposed to be used, because even in browsing, the Pentium gold lags at times. I use Brave browser because while using my go, because while in Chrome the laptop lags even more. Youtube videos will stutter every 20-60 seconds. The model I got was the 4gb 128gb model from Costco, this setup is only available from Costco, It is $550 and includes the black type cover. And I bought this version, because for $500 including the type cover, the base model has an emmc 64gb storage drive and 4gb of ram, that makes that model just not sufficient, and for $650 including the type cover, the higher model becomes obviously overpriced. Because for the same price your options of traditional laptops make the performance of this one seem like a "the runt of the group" situation. I actually highly agree with Dave from Dave2D on this one, when it comes to competition, you realize that this is slow, and there are many other offerings. Or maybe you came to this device for form factor, the form is nice, small and compact. And when went to the Microsoft prior to purchase, the keyboard felt cramped, but in very little time the keyboard felt quite comfortable. The surface connector is small and often comes out of the laptop due to it's length, and the USBC has passthrough charging, which makes you ask, why doesn't this have a single thunderbolt three connector? And maybe you think you can just skip the type cover, you can't, without it, this is a paperweight, windows just isn't designed for touch, although with just the pen I could see this being used as a drawing tablet and for basic fun use, athough if you are going to type anything like this review, the type keyboard is a must, especially considering that there is no USB C dongle included to use an external keyboard.

You want to avoid any electrical charge when a device is soaking wet, that means sensors are being tripped. You can kill your phone doing this. Just leave it out in a hot place to dry, putting it in rice does nothing.
