  1. had an idea on how to maybe solve the desktop webcam shortage during corona and maybe even get features like windows hello for cheap on your desktop would love it if you guys did a video on this and i think a lot of your community would be able to take advantage of it if it works will probably try it out soon so let me know if you have any questions. as for the idea i was talking about, i already posted it here so you can get the details there.
  2. was just looking at webcams for windows hello and noticed they are all really expensive so i was thinking it should be possible to use a laptop webcam that supports windows hello to get it on desktop. As laptop webcams use internal usb ports they are essentialy just normal webcams so if i solder a usb cable to one it should as far as i know just work. to get the webcam i would just buy one off of a spare parts site or buy a broken laptop with windows hello support, both options should be cheaper than buying a desktop windows hello cam. so now im just wondering does anyone know a reason why this wouldnt work or should i give it a shot. might also be worth a video from @LinusTech
  3. @alextulu you have the chip (cpu temp) then thermal-paste , heat spreader, thermal-paste, copper block and then the other temp sensor touching the cold side of the peltier so there is a lot of material between the two temp sensors and one is right at the heat source while the other is at a source of cold so youd expect some difference
  4. @samcool55 @AlexTheGreatish If you want to actually do this wouldnt it be a lot smarter to do it the way i drew it i think thats also what sam meant in his message. this way the radiator will cool the water somewhat and then the peltier will further cool the water (+ anti freeze maybe) to the max of its ability while not getting overwhelmed. would love to see a video about this.
  5. So I'm currently trying to use my Google home mini to turn on my PC and have it boot into a specific OS. looking on the Internet many people have tried to find a way to remotely change the OS they boot as this could be extremely useful but it doesn't look like anyone has been successful so far (at least not using consumer hardware). The idea is: I say:"Hey Google. Boot Windows" --> pc starts up and boots windows I say:"Hey Google. Boot Ubuntu" --> pc starts up and boots ubuntu All that is needed other than the obvious is a 10$ raspberry pi Zero W (https://www.adafruit.com/product/3400) To make this happen i am planning to use a Raspberrypi Zero W (v1.3) in between my PC and the Google home. Connecting the Google home to my raspberry pi should be easy using for example ifttt (https://ifttt.com/) webhook service and custom Google home commands which can be configured in the app. once the pi receives the signal to either boot ubuntu or windows this should trigger a script which will first change the standard boot device in Grub2 boot loader to the desired one(to do this the idea is to have the pi be connected to the PC as a virtual usb drive(see https://www.raspberrypi.org/magpi/pi-zero-w-smart-usb-flash-drive/) on which the boot loader is located that way you can change the boot device) after this all thats left is to have the pi send a WOL packet to the computer and it should boot into the desired os. all of the above could of course also be done without the Google home to change which os to boot into when your on the other side of the world and need to do some stuff on your pc. i have not yet tried doing this and i certainly wouldn't mind getting some advice from you guys on what to do better. i will let you know if it worked once I'm done. PS: if any LMG employ sees this and decides to make a Video on how to do it please tell me so i can save myself the trouble of figuring out the details myself sorry for the bad English I'm not a native speaker
  6. I was thinking about making a Location based app that lets the user ask people in a certain Radius of his Location or a Location specified by him that he is planning to be in at a specified time for a favor. So you could for example ask your neighbours for some flour if your cooking and you just noticed your out or ask someone to do your Shopping for you. I was thinking of setting This up as a social Network so you can get Reputation points or so by doing favors (This app is Not supposed to be used for making money if you Go Buy something for someone they should pay for it but No more than that) None of This is finalised and ihavent started with anything but i thought it might be nice to work on this in a group so here i am looking for people who might be interested. You dont need any experience i myself only have some Basic Java skills so im planning to learn as i go. Finally i want to Note that i'm not going to pay anyone for participating in this im planning to work on this in my Free time and so should you.if however we somehow where to make money of This app (maybe through donations) everyone will get theyr fair Share. Hopeing for some positive responses and feel Free to criticise my idea if you See anything wrong with it.
