refinedskillz got a reaction from leclod in No Post on a system that was recently working, tried all basic troubleshooting - Mobo faliure?
🙂
My monitor and cable are working as it did just post this morning, then as I've gone through troubleshooting everything's just gotten worse.
Just tried powering on with the complete basics, still no post.
OK WTF?!? It posted.
My RAM wasn't seated properly but why has this happened in the first place?

I find it so cool - even though I am not into mining or can even afford any new parts - that this kind of stuff is doable at home. I didn't even know you could connect 4 different GPU's to a system. Nice.

You've picked a Ryzen processor and an Intel motherboard.

refinedskillz reacted to shaz2sxy in Scalpers have sold over 50,000 RTX 30 Series GPUs online
How would that benefit Nvidia? they are still selling the FE at the same price? so they don't make any extra money by a scalper selling the card for more money?

Asus's boards aren't inherently better quality than the competition. I'd recommend the MSI B450 TOMAHAWK MAX if he needs an ATX board, and the Asus TUF GAMING B450M-PRO S if he wants mATX.

refinedskillz reacted to Padblaze in How can I make my system look and perform great for £250-£300
1) Move your slots 1-2 to 2-4
2) Add a Ryzen 3 3100 or Ryzen 5 3600 (Depends on your budget but it would be definitely a + if you get the 3600) ( The 2 cpu comes with cooler so you could sell your old cpu with your old cooler) (You could also wait for Ryzen 3 5000 but that might not be in your budget)
3) Upgrade your GPU to the cheapest RTX 3000 that will release (It could be during CES 2021 (Jaunuary 11 to 14)
4) When you have all your things, it would be good to do some cable management so it looks better)
5) Any SSD
Hope your upgrade goes well

Yeah, I guess, thanks man.

refinedskillz reacted to DailyProcrastinator in New parts system won't post, nothing obvious wrong
My bad assumed the whole system was new, just the GPU and RAM I see. Have you reset the CMOS?

Does the motherboard support 3rd gen Ryzen? You may need a Bios update?

refinedskillz got a reaction from PV2smokes in Need help with cpu fan (I think)
Could be two things (both have happened to me before)
1. The bearing of one of the fans in your system is not perfectly centred, therefore causing the fan assembly to grind along the frame.
2. A cable is simply hitting your fan.

Yos, sadly newer cases got rid of the drive bays. I have a cool hot swappable 2.5" tray that fits into a 3.5" slot though, and an adapter to take that 3.5" to a 5.25". They even make some straight 5.25" adapters that have 4 hot-swappable 2.5" bays like a teeny tiny server rack. Some cool res/pump combos if you have dual 5.25" bays too. My Air 540 does but sadly rad support is meh... and good lord do I have a lot of cases. That Air 540 can illegally fit my XL-ATX mobo though, it's a bit wonk but it works.
Yeah, I ended up selling mine. Was more of a noob then, single cards were much easier to use, and I had my fill of tinkering with X58. Actually moved from a pretty baller 2700X back to my Xeons from 2011 just because they were more fun to OC, ran a single 1080 Ti then. I got that for $550, barely less than your 1080s cost, and I can confirm that SLI 1080s are miles faster in anything that scales well, lol. Similar story on Turing, the 2070 Supers absolutely stomp a 2080 Ti while costing less, and SLI 2080 Supers would put on even more hurt while only costing slightly more than the base models (and still less than something like the kingpin tier cards).

refinedskillz got a reaction from Sylvanar in First time build, suggestions are welcome!
3950X instead of the 9700K, its faster I think. Also isnt this all a tiny bit overkill for the games you want to play?

Still, makes the build look way more "futuristic", if you'd like.

Yeah, it does look really cool from the front... Apart from the AMD FX & HyperX sticker that I put on it 4 years ago. Oh, and the CDRW drive lmao. I'll probably remove them when i put the new card in, which im getting tomorrow

I dont actually have a windowed case lol, I've always been interested in the "aesthetic" of PC's, but i have a full tower Corsair Carbide 400R.

Yeah, just a big motherboard doesn't give the sense of depth that having multiple GPU's, tubing, etc. gives.

Looks so sick man, I totally agree with dual cards looking better, empty case space is one of my pet peeves I think lol

Have you learned nothing in school? NOTHING good will come out of it. Your brain and liver will thank you when you are older. Underage drinking seems "fun" but the amount of deaths per year is too many. I mean if you like being dead or having long term brain damage for some "fun" that everyone will forget and look back at as being stupid go for it. If you value you future, life, and friends, pressure them not to go.
