captain_to_fire got a reaction from Mr.Nelf in Kaspersky files an antitrust lawsuit to EU and Russia against Microsoft for keeping users safe with Windows Defender
Yes it is inferior. 3rd party tests confirm that and a thread I made weeks ago how Windows Defender can be a conduit for malware execution because of its not so good sandbox when scanning a file.

I get why Microsoft is doing this because they have the right to cover the people who don't have a third party AV. Back in pre-Windows 8 days, a newly bough PC is often bundled with an anti-virus like Norton or that awful McAfee and they're protected depending how long the trial period lasts. Once trial period is up, people will forget that an AV is expired and it stops working, thus making them vulnerable so during the release of Windows 7, they bundled Windows Defender.

But I think Eugene Kaspersky is doing this because many people think Windows Defender is good enough and they've stopped paying for AVs. But I agree with Kaspersky on this one:

Windows Defender unfortunately is way too basic for both home users and small/medium businesses and it lacks anti-ransomware features paid AVs have that works even with a lot (not all) zero-day malware [Here, Here].

The advertisers have the right to choose where they spend their advertising money. If Apple or any of the others that have been distancing themselves from Twitter want to be careful, then so be it. If both Apple and Google have suggested that allowing hate speech on any app that is being sold through their stores is against the rules, then fair play them. I have a feeling many don’t actually understand what freedom of speech actually is. Twitter is already filled with hatred that any relaxation of the current rules may even fall foul of many countries laws, including the EU and the UK. Had EM vowed to clean up Twitter, stop the nutters from abusive speech and harm then surely advertisers would remain or increased their spend.

More research has to be made. Currently there are researches about intranasal vaccines using the non-replicating adenovirus vector and preliminary tests show that it induces significantly higher IgA (mucosal antibody) in the nasopharynx which should block the transmission of the virus.

University of Oxford famous for “Vaxzevria” is working on a “universal” coronavirus vaccine by using the pre-fusion state of different spike proteins from bat and human coronavirus which should induce robust and long lasting immunity. Animal studies show that it has surpassed the antibody titers of both Moderna and Pfizer vaccines even to zoonotic coronaviruses that are yet to be seen in public.

captain_to_fire got a reaction from dalekphalm in New EU Law Could Force Apple to Allow Other App Stores, Sideloading, and iMessage Interoperability
I've said it on a status update and I'll say it again, USB C is nice but allowing 3rd party app stores, sideloading, and iMessage interoperability will simply ruin the iPhone experience because there would be nothing that will differentiate the iPhone from other phones. The EU has a lot in their plate including the issues of the war ongoing in Eastern Europe, it’s time for them to focus their efforts on that and let tech companies do their own thing such as App Stores. If I want a more open phone experience I can always get an Android phone. The smooth-brained EU has a lot of problems to address, telling tech companies what apps to run on a phone shouldn't be one of it. What's next? Force Apple to sell their in-house M and A chips to the likes of Android OEMs? I bet that majority of the people using iPhones know what they're getting into and they're most likely fine that their only source of apps is the App Store.

    My thoughts
While BleepingComputer and other sources aren't commenting on which Network(s) was hijacked, it looks like atleast a network that begins with an F and rhymes with Box based on a few anecdotal pieces of evidence elsewhere. Thankfully it's not as much of the World Wide Wild West anymore and most browser malware requires social engineering, so I'm hoping not a lot of people were affected.

I'm not a fan of Apple, and went with Android in the early days specifically because of this type of stuff (sideloading, etc), but I also don't agree with all this regulation, and in general believe that people should be able to run their business how they see fit (with some obvious exceptions relating to safety, essential goods, etc).

As much as I'd like to occasionally see arrogant Apple fall on their face, in this case I'd almost like to see them leave Europe (will never happen), and let the angry customers take it out on their politicians.

I know I'll be in the minority on here, but I just don't tend to be on the side of regulations for the most part.

So you have to install the latest version of iOS and MacOS to be fully patched.
The latest version your device supports will be the one with all the security fixes.

Seems fair to me. Of course it would be better if users who liked iOS 15 more than iOS 16 could still get all the security updates while staying on iOS 15, but I don't think people expect that.

I feel like some people are misunderstanding what is happening, or trying to make this sound like a bigger issue than it is.
