  1. I've been binge listening to Cigarettes After Sex since last night
  2. Considering how awful EPIC and other EHRs is already yup I can see it breaking lol
  3. Looks like they're bringing Defender for Endpoint/Business features to everyone like a few of attack surface reduction rules [here] [here]. Though it's kinda disappointing that one needs to enable optional telemetry data on top of the required telemetry data just to enable Smart App Control. [here]
  4. One disadvantage of prioritizing privacy/security is convenience and it shows when you enable iCloud end-to-end encyrption. You have to always approve browser access to iCloud all the time especially on Windows PCs. But personally I'd say it's a small trade off. OneDrive already has something similar called "Personal Vault" only for Office 365 Home/Personal subscribers though it's more of an encrypted folder rather than the entire drive itself and it's only locally encrypted, not in the cloud. I wonder when will Google offer something similar?

I still haven’t enabled enhanced data protection on my account because my Dad’s iMac has GarageBand installed on it which is from my account. I have no idea if he uses it still or not. That iMac is extremely old.

  5. I hope Apple gets rid of Stage Manager in both macOS and iPadOS. It just feels wrong. Mission Control is just way better. Apple seems to have this habit of trying to fix a problem that doesn't exist and you can see that with Stage Manager.

Stage Manager works for the iPad, but for macOS the regular window manager is way better. I think they added it to macOS because the code base was mostly compatible cross platform.

  6. If there's one thing I hate about Microsoft and their products is when it is bringing back problems they have already fixed. Now I can't have the undo/redo buttons regardless of which ribbon I am in. Now in order to undo something I have to fucking go back to the Home ribbon and there is no option to bring back those buttons.

Of course some smart ass would say why won't you just type Ctrl + Z? Well I could but that would defeat the purpose of using a mouse or trackpad that I already have. Fuck this Microsoft 365.

  8. VPNs won't protect you against spear-phishing emails because it doesn't require the attacker knowing their victim's true IP address. All they need is to craft an email that looks like a legit sponsor spot through reconnaissance, this will more likely bypass most spam filters.
  9. I'm pretty sure that is not true. While every endpoint protection program uses so-called "ML algorithms, pattern matching, and cloud sandbox detonation", they still have to use signatures to rapidly inoculate other users from the said malware. If patient 0 was infected by a new malware with detection evasion techniques, that AV would still lock that file and upload it to a remote sandbox for detonation or if it needs manual intervention of a security analyst, then they deploy signatures to inoculate others. Heck even those so called ML detection algorithms require new signatures made by human experts because malefactors will always try to figure out how an AV algorithms work until they can bypass them. That's how all AV programs work. Now if a company has an EDR sensor, then it can spot changes into endpoints regardless if the EPP was able to detect it or not.

Tfw they suddenly remember that even the so-called "privacy first browsers" use the Google Safe Browsing API to block malware and phishing sites.

that doesn't change the fact that MS is so cheap when it comes to paying out security researchers
  12. Damn. These two features are quite useful. WiFi calling allows of calls and texts even on an area with poor coverage, and VoLTE is basically HD Voice which makes calls sound crystal clear.
  13. Why is Microsoft so stingy when it comes to their bug bounty program compared to Apple when they have more users to protect?

Keep in mind that Apple can claim these potential rewards, but there is little to no public data about how much Apple is actually paying out to these guys.

  17. Any flow chart programs you suggest that isn't Microsoft Visio or PowerPoint SmartArt graphics? (Paid is fine as long as it's not ludicrously expensive and is a one time purchase, free would be better)

  20. I would like have iMessages on my PC since I've been using an iPhone for a few years already and it looks like it's going to stay that way but I doubt Apple will greenlight iMessage on Windows. One of the selling points of macOS is Continuity and Apple will do everything to keep it within themselves. It's the same reason as to why Apple won't release a touchscreen Mac at the moment and it's because it's going to cannibalize iPad sales.
