To all college/grad school students who want to save money in their phone bill, instead of getting a two-year contract with a bundled device, pick the service/SIM-only postpaid plan without device and simply buy a phone you can afford.

Chances are, picking a service only plan has way more data than a two year contract with device and it allows you to switch phones whenever you want, not when you’re told. Just because it’s the newest phone doesn’t mean you should have it, especially when you can’t afford it.

I would hope people know this but I know enough to know that's not true.  I constantly see deals from all the carriers around here promising cheap or free flagships on a contract for some ungodly monthly fee like $80.  You can get coverage for like $15 per month and a cheap phone of some other kind that doesn't cost as much and do just fine.  I think everyone should consider this but particularly if you're on a tight budget.  Just remember, it's just a phone.  If you're spending laptop money on it, something is very wrong.

Because it’s a racket for wireless carriers. They know that many people want the newest phones but only a few will shell out for the full price so they came up with rip off 2-year contracts. Notwithstanding the fact that they can save more by paying for the full price of the phone you can afford and buying a postpaid plan with a cheaper monthly price but with more data.

I simply sell the phone, and buy a second hand upgrade.

Honestly probably wouldn't ever buy a brand new phone again.... Why bother when you can get a near immaculate, still in warranty phone for like £200+ off retail price
