  1. Hey all, what's the best 65W TDP CPU for gaming? I've got a mini-ITX case that has some pretty poor cooling capability, hence the 65W TDP limit (only have room for a 120 single rad AIO). I've currently got a i5-9400F with a RTX 2070 all hooked to a 4k TV. I felt pretty confident at the time that an RTX 2070 at 4k will be the biggest limiting factor for frames and so far the i5-9400F hasn't really let me down. However, I just jumped back into Call of Duty (since Black Ops 3) and generally at the lowest settings I can get around 60-70 FPS. Unfortunately the CPU is maxed out with the GPU providing more headroom as it can't push any more frames, and during intense firefights I'm seeing some pretty significant dips. So far it looks like the best 65W TDP CPUs are the Ryzen 7 3700x vs the i7-9700F which can both be had for ~$330. There's also the i9-9900 for ~$480 but that's a good bit outside of my price range. What I want to know is, between the Ryzen 7 3700x and the Core i7-9700F, which one is the better gamer? Do these have any meaningful improvement over my i5-9400F? I'm leaning more towards the i7-9700F as it'll just drop into my system, but the Ryzen 7 3700x is factory unlocked which could provide better performance. I have a 650W SFX power supply which should be able to handle the additional OC.
  2. Hmm I'm not sure if that's reassuring or not haha. I've had my G602 for 4 or 5 years now and only just recently started using it in this setup. I'm hoping it's just showing it's age and it's time to get replaced. I was under the impression tho that the Lightspeed stuff was some proprietary wireless setup from Logitech to obtain wired-like latency or better. I'm pretty sure the G602 uses a common 2.4 GHz connection.
  3. Does anyone know the effective range of Logitech's lightspeed wireless mouse tech? I'm thinking of picking up one of their mice for a couch gaming setup and wanted to know if it'll have issues being 10 ft or 12 ft away from the receiver. I'm not 100% worried about latency as the computer will be connected to a TV, but I definitely don't want something that will be noticeable or become glitchy at that distance. (Specifically thinking about the new Logitech G502 Lightspeed, I've had their original G502 on my main rig for years now and absolutely loved it. I have a G602 currently hooked up but it's becoming increasingly finicky where I literally have to sit a foot or 2 in front of the receiver to not have issues.)
  4. Ordered the Hifiman Edition S and they are awesome! They sound great and the flexibility to go open or closed worked for me! I do want to note for anyone else looking at these that they are not very isolated when closed, but work enough to prevent sound leaking out or when sitting in a cafe, just maybe not enough for something like an airplane. They're super portable and are pretty efficient but always benefit from a dedicated amp/dac. Lows are super accurate and have decent impact, highs are smooth (a tad peaky with the covers on but still great) and good sound stage and imaging. They are better in all aspects with the covers off and coupled with my FiiO E18 just makes everything pop a little more. Comfort is on point even with wearing glasses for several hours at a time. Thanks for the help guys!
  5. I've been using my T50RPs as "portable" cans for a while now paired with a FiiO E18 which can drive them (barely) and it works great...my only issue is that with the case and everything, they do take up a good bit of space in my bag. I don't have any experience with the Audeze Sines but I think comfort is pretty important, so I say if you've got the space, go with the Fostex
  6. I'm not really looking for a headset itself or for wireless connectivity but I've had issues with gaming headsets before. I tried my buddy's Razer Tiamat 7.1s and I found them to be too muddy and the soundstage to be too artificially spread out causing small gaps between positioning. I used to own a set of original HyperX Clouds which were surprisingly decent for the price. I guess my biggest issue with the Arctis 7 is that they don't seem to fold which won't make them anymore portable than the T50RPs that I'm using now

    Mic Static

The USB dongle works pretty well, I have the ModMic 4 and I found I get static when having it plugged through the front I/O port on my case. An easy check that I've done is plugging it into the back of the motherboard directly to see if the static goes away, but you have to make sure the wire isn't resting on any kind of power wire as that can introduce static as well.
  8. If you don't mind combining it with a set of headphones, I've had great success with Antlion's ModMic 4. It sounds really clean and does a great job at getting just your voice and isolating outside noise some. I've used it in a room with running portable A/C/Heater and I've got a mech keyboard and people on the other end don't hear either getting in the way of hearing me. That being said, you do have to watch for mic positioning as if it's angled out of your way, it's kinda hard for other people to hear you. That and you do have to deal with an extra cable which can get a little annoying.
  9. Hi all I was wondering if you guys had any suggestions for headphones for portable use around the $100 range? I'm mainly going to be gaming with these so soundstage is a great plus. They don't need to be super accurate, but definitely on the fun side. I'm primarily looking at the M40X as the M50X were way too closed in for my tastes but I really want to know what other alternative headphones are out there that fit my budget. Also they need to be portable enough that I can toss them into my bag without taking up too much space!! If I need to sacrifice some SQ for build quality I don't mind. I'm currently using Fostex T50RP MK3s but they're just too bulky to carry around all the time but sound and work fantastic. I've also got AKG K553s and while the soundstage is amazing, they're just too bass light for fun and I always have trouble getting them to seal properly on my head, especially on the go. Plus attached ridiculous cable makes them not very portable friendly. I know there are the Takstar Pro82s available but I'm just not sure of their durability against the M40X. If I had the budget I would love to get a pair of Sennheiser Momentums but they're just too much out of my budget and I need some headphones that I won't feel too bad throwing them around. I've got Fidelio X2s I use at home and ideally I would absolutely love to have something that has similar sound signature, but probably next to impossible to get in a closed back set, especially on something portable and around $100. Also I can't stand on-ear headphones if my above collection was any indication haha I appreciate any help or input!!
  10. Running a Logitech K360 wireless keyboard, a Logitech G602 wireless gaming mouse and my trusty HyperX Cloud original! Need to start getting some high performance wired peripherals!
  11. I think I get how everybody has subjective hearing and it's truly up to the individual, but why do we get some what consistent reviews on how each headphone sounds? For example most people review the Audio Technica ATH-M50X as having little to no soundstage, where audio sounds very much on your ears as opposed to something like AKG K553 which most people argue sound very expansive? Just out of curiosity, is there somewhere besides headphone.com that also has frequency response curves? And what makes a neutral response? Would it be safe to assume that if I have a particular set of headphones that I enjoy, I would also enjoy other headphones with similar frequency response curves?
  12. Totally kidding about that title...but really I've got a question for you audio gurus out there. I know how you can measure objectively the "sound" of a set of headphones, and in its most simplest terms can be summarized into a frequency graph (I know it's much more complicated than that). A neutral set of headphones will produce a "flat" or "ideal" frequency response curve. Then how do you objectively measure the other flashy audiophile words? What represents "detail"? Above all how do you measure soundstage? How can you objectively measure a headphone's soundstage and directly compare it to another headphone's soundstage?
  13. Hey I was wondering if it mattered how I connected my AV Receiver to my computer to take advantage of it's 5.1 speaker surround and using the built in amp and DAC for headphone use? I've typically been using HDMI from my graphics card then connecting my monitor to my receiver, but I know that the receiver can also take a TOSLINK which is available from the back of the motherboard. Also if I'm watching say a movie with 6 channel encoded audio, how do you pass that through to the receiver? I'm using VLC player if it matters. Thanks in advance!
  14. Wait so are you looking for a headphone amp or just a set of headphones??
  15. Considering the voltage, that's around the expected temps with adequate cooling in effect. (Tho arguably I expected better) Remember the voltage on my 4790k is at 1.288V, where most people are getting around 1.150V from the factory. Don't ask me why my chip runs so much voltage with a completely stock BIOS settings cuz I honestly don't know. A quick search through the overclockers forums shows that these temps are pretty reasonable under 100% load at that voltage. Under gaming I don't think I ever peak over 60C tho gaming rarely uses up that much of the processing load. Another thing to consider in my setup at least is that my 980 Ti is connected to the same loop and that thing runs around 40C with Heaven 4.0 benchmark with a moderate OC running for around 30 min. Highly doubt it's the pump or loop build. And if you've ever messed with an EK waterblock they're kinda damn near impossible to mess up installing. Also don't forget that a lot of people found that by simply de-lidding and replacing the internal TIM they got substantial drop in temps, in particular with the 4790k. Again a quick search across the OC forums has a lot people supporting this. To OP what voltage are you getting exactly when running a stress test/benchmark test?
