  1. I'm considering a PC upgrade to an R5 2600X and an MSI B450 Tomahawk. My goal is to get memory listed on the QVL that is ideally 3200+MHz and has decent timings. Here is an example of one QVL listed RAM kit I'm considering: My questions are: How important is the model number in the shown QVL? The listed model number is for a single 16Gb DIMM. If I get 2 8Gb DIMMS, the model number changes to HX433C16PB3K2/16. Will this different RAM work the same even though the model number isn't the same? How can the shown single DIMM of RAM be confirmed to work as 2 DIMMs if it's only a single DIMM? (See the last column for 2 DIMM confirmation) Since 1 and 2 DIMMs are checked, does that mean I can get 1 or 2 DIMMS that total 16Gb, or I can get 1 or 2 DIMMS that are each 16Gb? Do you have any advice/suggestions for my potential setup? I currently have an RX 480 that I intend on keeping for a while. I upgrade infrequently. I mostly game, but also do SolidWorks and light content creation. Thanks for your help.

    Video Request - Homemade laptop

I was just thinking a briefcase would allow for solid starting point. It would be portable, foldable, and fit a small monitor/keyboard/trackpad. From my experience with 3D printing, making an entire folding mechanism out of plastic would be difficult, expensive, and less reliable than a briefcase.
  3. What do you guys think about a video where LTT makes a homemade laptop? They could get an old rigid briefcase, put a monitor in the lid, and put the PC parts and surge protector in the bottom. It would take 1 cord to power, and give you a terrible, yet amusing, laptop experience. Also, is there a place where we can actually post video ideas, or do they just belong here, in general discussion?
  4. I'm having a weird glitch where I can't access mobile data on the Ting GSM network (wholesale from T-Mobile). I have a used and unlocked AT&T Galaxy S7 with the Ting GSM SIM card and can get calling and texting, but no data. The most confusing part happened a few weeks ago: I swapped my SIM card with another activated Ting SIM card, had data, then swapped back to the original, and still had data, until I rebooted which is when I lost it again. It worked for nearly a week with fully functional mobile data, but stopped when rebooting. Does anyone else have this issue, or and have advice? I can get the 4G LTE logo, but it isn't actually working. The Data Service status usually says "Connecting" unless the 4G LTE logo appears and it says "Connected", even though it doesn't work. Things that haven't worked: Setting and checking the APN. Shutting down, removing the SIM card, waiting 5 minutes, reinserting SIM, rebooting. Getting a new SIM card. Doing a full factory reset. Changing network type (Currently LTE/UMTS auto (PRL)). Resetting connection settings. Making sure mobile data is actually enabled (it is). Trying the swapping SIM procedure described above with my old deactivated SIM. Booting without a SIM, then rebooting with it. Talking to multiple Ting Support Assistants for over 8 hours total. I finally found a solution: Turn off data and wifi, reboot, turn on data, test it, turn on wifi, and test that too. I have to do this every time I turn the phone off.
  5. I am having an issue where Windows 10 minimizes my focused application randomly (multiple times per day). I'll be playing Overwatch, or browsing on chrome, or really doing anything, and windows will minimize the application and I'll maximize it, and it minimizes again a few seconds later, and I'll maximize it again, and this won't happen for another few hours. It almost always happens twice in a row, but never 3 times. I've tried changing task priority, closing non essential programs, blocking pop ups, doing virus scans, and running in windowed vs full screen mode. I've even kept the task manager open to see if a windows program pops up, takes focus, and closes immediately, but I can't see it doing so. I've seen many people post this problem, but no actual solutions. Any advice? Thanks.

    USB driver errors

I'm having two problems related to sound that need to be solved: 1. Non-functional audio jacks: A few months ago (On windows 10), my headphones and microphone (3.5 mm jack) stopped working while plugged into the back of my computer. I plugged them into the front, and just like the back, they were detected but not working. Since then, I have plugged both devices into my USB keyboard that has audio ports, and everything works fine. I think it is software related since plugging them into the keyboard changed the drivers from "VIA HD Audio" to "PnP Sound Device" for both the speakers and microphone. 2. Missing enhancements tab: I just got a new USB microhpone (Fifine k669b) and it sounds fine, but is a bit quiet. I wanted to use the audio enhancement tab/volume boost to turn the volume up since the levels tab is already maxed out; however, the enhancement tab is not there. Both my old "VIA HD Audio" drivers with the 3.5mm jack and "PnP Sound Device" drivers through the keyboard offered this feature, but now the microphone is running on "PnP Audio Device" drivers (Audio, not Sound) which does not offer it. I tried switching to the "Sound" version of the drivers, but it was not listed as compatible. Any advice? Thanks for your help.
  7. I turned on my PC today and it just showed a black screen that said something along the lines of, "Reboot and select proper boot device". I then tapped the power button and the PC turned off immediately, then would not start again. I unplugged the surge suppressor, plugged it back in, and Windows 10 started up like normal. I've not restarted the PC yet, but I have put it to sleep for an hour. All my stuff is now backed up. My questions are: Could this be an OS issue, or an issue with my HDD? The HDD is from 2009 and has been my boot device on two copies of windows 7 and a copy of 10 for 8+ hours a day everyday. If this could be an OS issue, how could confirm the problem and fix it? If this is a HDD issue, how do I transfer everything to a new SSD? What size of SSD should I get to store the OS, some photos, school files, etc. (My games are on a different HDD) Do you have any recommendations of SSDs Could this just be a glitch that doesn't need to be fixed? If I continue using my PC as is, and one day it fails to boot every time, how would I reinstall my OS? I got the free upgrade, so I don't have a key. Thanks for the help.
  8. I wanted to upgrade the mobo because there are some weird compatibility issues with consumer CPUs, it is maxed at 8GB of RAM, and has no cooler mount. Also, the GPU can run GTA V, and CAN run Arkham Knight, just not well. That windows advice sounds great though, thank you.
  9. I'm new to these forums, so if this post doesn't belong here, let me know. I'm trying to help my friend build a gaming PC that is as cheap as possible. The most demanding titles she wants to play are Batman Arkham Knight and GTA V. We already have some parts, but I think some of them should be replaced. The parts we already got from friends: Case: Cooler Master HAF 912 Motherboard: Gigabyte GA-M68MT-S2 with missing cooler mounts RAM: 2x4GB of Spectek PC3-10600 DDR3 RAM CPU: AMD FX-4100 Power supply: Earthwatts, Antec 430W GPU: Radeon HD 7770, 1GB My initial thoughts were to upgrade the motherboard and CPU now, then upgrade the GPU at a later date. I was thinking an AMD FX-4350 and a Gigabyte GA-78LMT-USB3 would provide a decent enough upgrade path at a good price. This would keep all other parts as listed above. Our budget doesn't have a specific cap, but money is tight. My questions are: Can anyone think of a better upgrade solution? Does this seem like it is good enough to play the listed games? *I realize the 7770 is below Arkham Knight minimum specs. Are there any compatibility issues, or anything that I missing? Is there a place to get a cheap copy of Windows 10? If we have a CD copy of Windows 7 that was upgraded to Windows 10, can we still use the old CD to get 7? Thanks.

    AMD Polaris Giveaway

I am currently using a Radeon HD 6950 and want to upgrade because it is quickly falling behind the required hardware specs for many new games. Even games that are a few years old are struggling; 1 GB of VRAM can make it difficult to run GTA V. Thanks for the giveaway.

    Zotac ZBOX MAGNUS EN970 Giveaway

I'm interested in the ZBOX because it will allow me to set up my own private mumble server, and stream games/movies from my desktop.

    Feenix Collection Giveaway

The Feenix Aria Headset is my favorite Feenix product because it combines the beauty of wood and the quality of great headsets. As a woodworker and self proclaimed audiophile, this is a great combination. Thanks for the giveaway.
