Like this. How the analogue stick is being used will depend on how the game utilises it.

aiming/camera controls just like any game pad

so games like Killzone its for aiming, in uncharted its for looking around and aiming etc

Think of it as a PS3 controller, 2 sticks, dpad, 4 face buttons, start, select, L1+R1 (L2 and R2 are on the touchpad)

Same basic thing as the second thumbstick on the DualShock, DualShock 2, DualShock 3/SixAxis, DualShock 4... And considering the Vita can act as a second gamepad  for the PS3/PS4 or even Remote Play games from the PS3/PS4 using the Vita's screen (provided the gamedevs don't lock you out of doing so. Yu-Gi-Oh: Legacy of the Duelist on the PS4 can use the Vita for Remote Play, but DC Universe Online on both PS3 & PS4 refuses to load if you're using Remote Play).

Good point about streaming to it

    also for PS1 games etc

When a company deposits a patent (not sure of the traduction of that word), they own it for 20 years and it's not renewable, but if the design only was deposited as a brand, they own it for 15 RENEWABLE (Coca-Cola bottle for example). However, if the patent was not deposited, the company could also have sent a special letter (called "Enveloppe Soleau" in french) to the institute of patents, this is just a clue of an idea at a certain moment in time and it's protected for 5 years iirc, this allows to someone to prove that they had the idea before someone else try to protect that idea (stealing the original inveter's concept).
Hope this clarifies things, sorry for horrible grammar

If they don't have a patent on it: they don't have a leg to stand on.
If they have a patent and didn't protect it: the patent would be taken away, so no leg to stand on.
If they have a patent and did do something about it: lawsuit 4 years. If Company C is a huge company and Company A and B are smaller (AKA have less money) they can sue for years, but not get anywhere. Read a bit up on this for a small example: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Linksys_iPhone
Basically Linksys had an 'iPhone' in the late 90's, Apple announced their iPhone in 2007, Linksys was going to sue them, Apple was not afraid to still release the 'iPhone' as they have lots of money

It prob will become digital only since Steam is growing each and every day, Ubisoft having uPlay, EA has Origin and CDProjektRed having GOG (Galaxy of Gaming)

It;s just for a publisher much less of a gamble to release a product digital only. If a game does not sell well, you are only stuck with the developer costs, marketing costs and the digital codes. Otherwise you are stuck with a whole bunch of physical copies (because stores will send them back).

And yeah, gaming is moving to digital only. Even last gen was very reliant on digital content, because patches and stuff for games.

Yes, there is a program from VMware called ThinApp that not only shows you everything that was done (files made, registry keys changed, etc.) but offers to pack them all up into a "portable package".  Unfortunately, even though it's only like 10 MB, it's like $8000 last I checked

EmmaMay reacted to minibois in Will digital kill the industry history of present in the future
You're talking about 9 years in the future. Literally EVERYTHING can be different at that point. The way data is stored can be totally different, so you could download all versions of the games (unpatched and patched for example)

Also, at this moment physical games are not fully safe, because of patches and other digital content they rely on. I'm more concerned about obscure multiplayer online games which their online might someday shut down and it's gone forever

i'd gladly take steam DRM if that means the game is integrated in a widely used social platform that allows me to seamlessly carry saves between computers, and interact with friends in-game. (like joining the same server on Gmod, watching their failures on KSP, drag them into a lobby on CS:GO and so on.)

EmmaMay reacted to Fulgrim in Physical, Digital or Both?
I prefer physical tbh, because it'll require registering online to a service like Steam/Origin/Uplay, and then i have the option of installing from disc, or just downloading directly.

But some old games aren't purchasable in physical format any more, but that's where Steam / GoG come into play.

    i'll put it like this:
back in the late sims 2 era i knew a person that didnt just have a seperate shelf, but an entire shelving unit for sims discs.

The reason why it seems that he's attacking you is because you are just writing out every little kid's dream. They want to make games but don't know how. My honest opinion, go ahead and go for it, but at least learn basics of game design before you begin this "journey". You can't just have ideas, you also need to have the skills to make those ideas come to life. If you look on Kickstarter, for example, there are a CRAP TON of projects that go unfunded because it is simply just an idea and they have no real product yet. Go take time to learn game design and if you enjoy it, then keep pursuing it.

I would like to apologize - it was not my intention to attack you - I'm sorry.

those pictures were to illustrate that you are not living in a co-co land, there are a lot of people out there that are concerned about the same stuff.

in the first part I was sincerely serious - it's not hard to make a game, the hardest part is to come up with an idea that will blow everyone away, which is not trivial.
And the "full sellout on twitch.tv" is a legit fund raising idea, you set up a studio and ask people to donate money for your new game you want to make, or start a company for game development and then you just ask people what they want you to do for money
or even easier would be making a 15 sec video on youtube and just start a kickstarter campaign
you don't need corporate association or take on any obligations to get a loan

    I strongly disagree,
I believe in IT it's all about the idea,
if you really have it, then it's literally a question of a couple of hours to arrange everything and go live by the end of the year either picking up online tutorials or finding people willing to align with you

Garage48 and any kind of local hackatons are the living embodiment of what I've said, those conventions are always full of very experienced professional developers and engineers, but the ideas, they're one in a million and there's never enough of idea/marketing people

great, pick up some general coding courses
    like for beginners there's: http://code.org
and for more advanced stuff there's http://mva.microsoft.com
and then just look at some OpenGL or DirectX sample projects and chase your dream!

or if maybe you want to design stuff, get to a drawing board and start mapping out your ideas, ask your friends and work colleagues if they think they would enjoy playing any of the stuff you've come up with - and remember most of the games are really simplistic - take the Angry Birds or Flappy Birds or the variations of Running man or Candy crush are pretty basic - it's just mashing one button and getting constant flow of rewards

Thank you very much for your reply,
I'm sorry too, I didn't realize that a "full sellout on twitch.tv is a legit fund raising idea", the way I read it was something along the lines of putting myself on twitch.tv and showing myself up, if that makes sense, that's why I thought you were attacking me but I realize now from your reply that you weren't attacking me, so I'm really sorry about that, but thank you for what you've replied with, it's very informative.

What I would say to you is that you should just go for it. Don't read internet guides or watch a really long video series on coding, just start out trying to make pong (for example). Use google along the way to find out how to draw a circle, how to make the circle move, how to make the paddles and so on. Just learn by doing, and if you can't come up with ideas, learn by copying old games and then push yourself to add something interesting to them. By game 6 or 7 you'll really be getting somewhere. If you want to get into formal games development (ie working at Rockstar games or something) then you'd realistically either need to build up a portfolio of interesting and well made games this way, or take a degree course in computer science.
