As mentioned by @OhioYJ what you're suggesting here is normal, are you turning this switch on/of every time you use the computer though? I would recommend only flipping this when necessary, ie working on your machine or if it will be off for weeks at a time. I found out the hard way that these rocker switches were not designed to be used in that way, eventually mine stopped working as a switch!

You have made a very solid point... I have been meaning to do more with my NAS so this might be the best thing for it! I like that idea a lot 🙂

Thanks for the insightful information! Basically not at all worth changing then.

I may still throw it together with a much cheaper motherboard and ram but we'll see.

    Thanks for your help 🙂

More of a sidegrade than an upgrade when your current cpu performs like the one that youll be upgrading to, although you will get somewhat lower power consumption

If you dont need a secondary pc then just resell the 2700x

You will see almost no difference in performance, the overall benefit would be the featureset of the new motherboard and maybe a bit less power consumption.
it may be worth it I guess if you factor in selling the old hardware

Until OP says what the actual devices are, I would assume we're talking about stuff like AIO's that you have to connect to a USB2 header. If he really has four such devices, then this is going to be a bit of a PITA, although he could try his luck with splitters like this.

So you paid through a cash app before having anything in your hands or being able to see the product? Clark Howard was actually just talking about all these various cash payment apps recently actually (Venmo and the like).  His recommendation was basically not to use them at all, unless you are paying a family memeber, or had something in hand.  I don't need any more payment apps, if that's all they take, it already concerns me.

Yeah UK resident here and I totally agree that this particular contract does sound... interesting to say the least despite the big brand that they are. I have seen plenty of other delivery services let you use your own bike and whatnot with not a huge amount of extra hassle, even in the US.

In all seriousness, wish I had more experience with Noctua products, never had an issue with any of their stuff whenever I've bought from them though.

As mentioned by @Kisai, that laptop is no gaming laptop, you won't be able to do much with it.

    But, you could always look at the following videos for inspiration, while it may not be exactly what you need, it's a start ;

Ok so I'm going to be the first to say it... You cannot simply "turn" a laptop into a desktop as they use very different part form factors and components. Your best bet here would be to see if you can find a desktop in your local market that someone is perhaps willing to give away, and then you upgrade it from there.

Otherwise, you are stuck to current laptop specs which won't run much at all.

Stupid question: Have you enabled RDP on that Win7 machine?
(Considering that you also deal with Windows Server 2008, highly doubt you’d forget enabling it)

Could you also show a screenshot of the error?

I’ve looked at your previous posts to see how you’ve actually installed Windows 7 on the Mac Pro, but couldn’t figure it out. Is it a VM?

AKG K712's maybe? But they don't have a inline volume controller.
    They've got a detachable cable.
    They're lighter at 235g.
They've got a really good soundstage which is great for gaming.
I dont personally think they have a "gaming aesthetic."

While it would theoretically, I believe the reason it fails is because it is only emulating the PCIe generation rather than physically cutting off the lanes with the hardware available. The setting is likely there though so that the lanes can be split across multiple PCIe devices more evenly, as well as be a way to give a certain device more bandwidth than what it would have if the settings were left untouched.

Unless OP's going to be OC'ing thats WAY overkill end up coughing up like 5x the cost the PC for a single GPU muchless TWO of them and 30 series.

If not, how do you suggest buying it for $0?

Also, 1x8GB RAM no. Get 2x8GB - makes a big difference.
You don't need the CPU cooler - 11400 stock cooler will work fine for now.

Honestly, the first thing I would probably do is take out that single stick of RAM and replace it for two matching sticks for dual channel. Doing that alone will likely give you a much longer lasting rig with just that small change, especially since games prefer dual channel over single. Doesn't have to be an upgrade to 16GB though, I reckon it would struggle to reach that amount without a CPU upgrade, this is of course dependent on the games you play and any work related tasks that you do as well.

Brennan Price got a reaction from Brandon90791 in Advice for upgrading my PC
The power supply sticks out like a sore thumb considering the price of the rest of the build. I completely understand that the whole rig won't use anywhere near as much as 430W as it is, but, it is also only Bronze rated and has few, if not no measures in place to prevent damage in case it fails or encounters a power surge. Not to mention the fact that if you did want to buy a GPU eventually, you will likely have to buy another power supply.

I'd say it makes sense to spend more money on a better power supply now in order to spend less with future upgrades as well as being able to keep a better component longevity.

So my thinking here is that on your new CPU, the lanes aren't functioning properly/your CPU can't handle full PCIe 3 16x bandwidth (even though it should).

The reasoning behind the 9500gt working though even on the full 16x slot is because it does not saturate PCIe 3 16x speeds, it is PCIe 2.0 x16 instead which is effectively equal to PCIe 3 8x I believe??

When you put your 1060 into a PCIe 3 4x slot, you are capping the bandwidth and therefore it will work just like the 9500gt does.
