  1. Definitely an interesting idea to investigate, although I guess water flow rate vs size is something to consider here too. I reckon a small water block with loads of fins and high pressure would probably be better/more economical than a larger block with less fins and much lower water pressure. Perhaps it's the reason why we don't see any massive water blocks? Once again, I could be wrong as I'm not a thermal engineer.
  2. I reckon it should not just be the kid put into scrutiny here though, the parents should have had a slap on the wrists in some way shape or form too. Bear in mind he's still not 18 yet. The fact that this kid had access to so much money and the parents did not put any restrictions on any of it makes me wonder what they were thinking as well
  3. I know an electrician that is colour-blind, great guy, never got any or his jobs wrong. If you give yourself boundaries to hit against then you're not going to go far. Remove that mindset and you can definitely do what you want despite your colour-blindness.
  4. I would look for experience over anything. Apprenticeships are probably the best way to go when it comes to IT work compared to uni. It's the reason I did not go to uni, uni simply would not help me in my progression for my line of work I want to go into. As you might tell already, I took an apprenticeship and I am already a qualified IT technician at the age of 19.
  5. But we now have phones with 4K screens and they can play 4K video just fine... I really don't see what the issue is.
  6. You must understand that Apple will be making their own ARM chips (Like they do already for their mobile devices) for their MacBooks. Saying that the performance that they want will take years to grasp is untrue as well. Apple design their operating systems incredibly well to gain the most out of their devices so I do not feel that this will be an issue. Apple (sadly) are not moving to AMD. About the GPU's as well... They are going into MacBooks remember.... When was the last time that you saw someone buy a MacBook purely for the graphical performance?
  7. Excellent, if you would like to mark this thread as solved then it will be all good.
  8. No worries, although I would highly recommend either getting a 7200rpm HDD or get a larger SSD for games. 5400RPM is quite slow for a game library drive.
  9. I would try again: 1. Turn off Windows automatic driver installation linked here - https://windowsloop.com/disable-automatic-driver-installation-on-windows-10/#:~:text= Disable Automatic Driver Installation on Windows 10,Automatic Driver Installation via Registry Editor More 2. Run DDU whilst in safe mode. 3. Download the latest AMD video drivers for your 3200G. 4. Install the latest video drivers for your 3200G. 5. Move/Install the game onto your SSD and see where that gets you.
  10. Yes, yes you can. I have dealt with this at work on multiple systems. Device manager cannot see everything, neither is it the be all and end all of confirming whether a device works or not. Don't get me wrong, device manager is generally pretty good and I will not rule out the possibility that the motherboards audio panel or chipset is dead... but considering the board (I believe) is brand new though, the OP should generally try out all driver/software troubleshooting steps before potentially RMA'ing or getting a replacement.
  11. Please also understand that no-one else has offered this solution, not to mention that I have also seen devices completely not work without the direct driver install from manufacturers website. I have read the thread and this was my potential solution, asking simple questions that no-one else had asked. We are still yet to find out if this works so I would appreciate you not calling out my comment, there is no reason for it.
  12. Go here to download your audio drivers https://www.asus.com/uk/Motherboards/ROG-CROSSHAIR-VII-HERO-WI-FI/HelpDesk_Download/
  13. Hiya, what motherboard do you have?
  14. So the thing is... And this annoys me... Is that no-one here had first asked which PC you are using or had asked which socket motherboard you are using (Before they had given you the benchmarks that is)... There are various iterations of the 2011 socket and so not all of the CPU's are compatible. Based on the fact that you have said your computer is an HP Z420... This would be socket 2011 V2, therefore the maximum processors that this PC can handle are likely E5 Xeons. Having looked at the manual, this is what it states about your HP Z420 workstation: from the manual: Intel ® Series C602 chipset with: ● Support for the Intel® Xeon™ Processor E5-1600 Series and E5-2600 Series, including processors up to 150W ● Integrated 4-channel memory controller ● Microarchitecture improvements ● Large L3 cache for superior performance ● Intel QuickPath Interconnect (QPI) connects processors and I/O controller with speeds up to 8 GT/s So with this information... You now know that you cannot put an E7 Xeon into your PC, which for some reason others have not yet mentioned. The PDF below also from HP's website states which processors will work fine in your computer. http://www.hp.com/united-states/campaigns/workstations/images/datasheet_z420.pdf EDIT: If you would be so kind as to mark this as solved.
  15. So why on earth did you recommend a Bronze rated CX550M?.... At least a Gold rated 550W will be fine.
  16. At that price range it is totally not worth it compared to what you already have. Just not entirely sure if Vega likes sub 600W PSU's, someone correct me if I am wrong.
  17. Get the FSP unit for sure. FSP make great power supplies, however, most of their market is in server and workstation power supply units hence you don't see them too often in custom PC's. May I add that Tier B is still highly respectable and will last you a long time so I wouldn't worry about that too much. Just don't get the Thermaltake PSU as with a rig like yours... You should not be cheaping out on a power supply!
  18. Potentially. I'd be genuinely very interested to see if this can be RMA'd though if it is still under warranty.
  19. This is because the card can still gain power from the PCI-E slot. However, half of it's data lines effectively were severed so it will not work in terms of being able to display anything.
  20. That is never going to work again I am afraid. He was probably testing to see if it would run at 8x speed and decided to cut off the rest of the connector in order to test that idea... Edit: If the card is still under warranty... I'd be genuinely interested to see if the card can be RMA'd.
  21. This can't happen I'm afraid. No laptop manufacturer sells further upgrade motherboards for laptops as no laptop motherboard uses a standard form factor. Even if you did want a laptop motherboard of that spec, you would probably have to spend a lot of money or get it second hand. Just buy a PC. Also.... why on earth is it so secretive? it's not a life or death situation, just hardware.... Also, definitely in wrong thread. Just because you don't want a 'Geek out session' as you would put it probably means that ya will be less likely to get the help you want...
  22. The best way to do this is by taking off the fabric and foam from the headband and replace it with a new one, probably from china or even Corsair themselves if they supply parts for them still. I do this with all my headphones, I even replace the ear cups when they become warn because they often add a lot more life to what would otherwise be a non-comfortable/functioning headset or pair of headphones. They can usually be gained for cheap too!
  23. No PSU restrictions, it is a standard ATX power supply that can be used. Dell are generally pretty good on the power supply end of things when it comes to standard connections around this era of workstations.
  24. You can buy adaptors that will enable you to convert one of the spare power connectors in your power supply in to a Molex connector. However, this does involve having spare connectors. I would recommend buying a new power supply in order to gain more connectors and therefore use the Dynamode USB-4PCI-3.0 properly.
