we used to do chipset overclocking back in the day, its mostly obsolete now though and it mostly causes instability because the parts dont expect the data buss to run at more than a certain speed

Aliexpress has some great mouse pads with braided edges.
You can get 4 for the price of 1 hyped mousepad.

Though it mostly takes a lot of time for items to arrive, thats the only downside in my experience.

Strictly speaking... There is no front page of the internet as your browser will only take you directly to where you need to go... So, the front page of the internet is actually your Browser, therefore making New Tab the front page of the internet.

I've just built my PC after not having one for a little while... I'll get back to you on that one... ?

In all seriousness though, I'm an IT technician and already deal with cleaning a lot of computers at work, plus I have a second job as well... I can't really be bothered to clean my rig when I get home, it just... Works. Until I see the temps raise in which point I will probably change thermal paste and clean certain aspects of my PC to regain good temps.

Very rarely do I do a full clean up however... Just use an air compressor from work to get rid of most of the dust...

As I got a glass panel, I just clean it every time there is a noticeable amount of dust in it (approximatively every 2-3 weeks)

Hiya, you're right that GPU temperature makes a difference but technically speaking... 85C is well within the GPU's operating temperature and should last just as long as when at a lower temperature.

It is just simply advised to keep lower temperatures as this *can* increase life span but I've not really seen any effects of this myself, plus it prevents thermal throttling and frame drops in games etc. May I ask what 2080Ti you have? A blower style cooler often provides these higher temperatures but often gives more noise.

I have plenty more to say on this subject but I'd say that this sort of educating is probably all we can do, keeping them away from social media is very difficult. If I had my way, I'd say that only kids of age 16 and above should be able to get smart phones (and hence access to social media etc), simply because they're likely to do stupid things that they'll regret in their later years on these platforms.

I'm not targeting everyone here, just the ones that do this sort of thing. But my point still stands, despite them being in the 'Smartphone Generation' does not mean that they are exempt of needing to learn it. If anything, they are more likely to need to know these kinds of thing because the tech has been given to them from a fairly young age anyway, therefore requiring more education to keep them safe early on.

Brennan Price got a reaction from Waifu4Life in Looking for cheap video cards that will support 3 monitors at the same time.
Sadly this does not happen, a lot of lower-end graphics cards have cheaper variants, take for example the GT 1030, this has two variants. It has a GDDR5 version which is faster with less VRAM but there are also much slower DDR4 versions with more VRAM. Always go for the faster ones and in the case of monitor output, it is sadly also a weird story depending on the manufacturer.

However, if the computers you want to use already have the NVidia card you mentioned in it, then why not also connect a monitor to the integrated GPU on the motherboard? Will work just as well and you don't have to spend any extra.

Brennan Price reacted to Mira Yurizaki in Software Engineers Don't Know Hardware and Vice Versa
I studied as a computer engineer and it was something I had to learn. If someone wants to argue that software developers should learn about hardware, well, I'd argue they have to learn the same things I had to take at school.

But otherwise, that's my point. If it's not important to software development, why should it matter? What hardware you choose tends to be an implementation detail over a design one.

Everything there seems to be alright, League of Legends has worked for agessss on most distros anyway. Most drawing tablets are supported (yes Wacom, Huion) but the issue I see here is Affinity Designer/Photo. That does not have any Linux support whatsoever. Might have to switch to something else there I'm afraid. Davincii Resolve however is supported natively.

I use Linux from something like ...11 years?

I never got to use the open source graphics editing on it too, It's just too much for me to learn new things, and for the one who don't work the same as I used to on Photoshop (or even work better)
I tried Krita, KDEnlive, Olive, GIMP, Pinta, but nothing satisfied me for everything (except some very basic editings)

I am just a bit frustrated because you require to use wine to get partial Photoshop functionality for example, but even though they run a bit slowly and I always preferred dual booting for that

I sincerely hope to see full Wine compatibility in the future, or native proprietary releases or something like Paint.NET or Adobe suite

Honestly, you're better off being taught how to install an SSD and then install Linux to it. Superior speeds and much better usefulness from that too, not to mention that it would also be much cheaper.

Brennan Price got a reaction from Likwid in 980Ti performing worse than 960
Ok, I have no idea why people are mentioning CPU bottleneck, if it could handle the 960 and get more FPS, there is not a bottleneck with the 980Ti. I put it down to power draw. The 960 draws less power and hence the 550W PSU you use can supply the whole of your builds power just fine. The 980Ti, on the other hand, uses more power and as such cannot power your system now with the 980Ti installed instead.

Upgrade your power supply to a good 650W or 700W and see where that gets you. Don't bother spending the money on newer CPU/mobo etc when it is most likely your PSU. I've had this same kind of issue with an HD 5850 vs a GTX 780. 780 gave me worse results as it couldn't get enough power. If you need more explaining on this I am happy to do so.
