There's quite a lot that could be the issue based on how little info you give. Does it freeze when doing anything in particular or just at random?

Also... I presume this has started happening since you installed new RAM, a GPU and SSD?

EDIT: I'm sure you could also have posted this into the troubleshooting area of the forum btw rather than in general discussion...

I would argue a lot of what makes Windows feel bloaty is that a lot of extra things are turned on by default. Windows feels a lot snappier when you remove all of the UI glitz and tweak with it a bit. Like literally the only difference between Lubuntu and Ubuntu is Lubuntu uses a lighter-weight desktop environment and a different set of userland applications (presumably lighter weight versions). Otherwise it's the same as Ubuntu, yet Ubuntu recommends much higher system requirements.

Honestly, Windows 7 was great when I still had a core 2 duo rig... This was maybe 6 or 7 years ago though... As soon as Windows 10 was released in 2015 however it didn't make sense at all to still be using Win 7 (well maybe not initially as Win 10 was still buggy af in the first year or so but you get where I'm coming from). Considering that mainstream support ended in 2015 for Win 7 as well there is no real plausible explanation to still be using Windows 7 as a home or business user. There has been plenty to indicate that it will no longer be supported... 5 years is a long time to be warned about this.

I can understand why a Win 7 (or even XP and older) PC may still be used for machinery etc in a business but that's a different case/scenario...

Honestly... I'd say it depends on what your budget is first. I'd always recommend a separate audio amp plus some decent speakers to go with it.

Smallest I can recommend is probably two of the Cambridge audio minx min 22, plus their Cambridge audio one pre-amp to go with them. Still got to buy different pieces rather than a whole system at once but I'm sure it'll do you better for upgrade-ability and quality.

I thought of that as well, but it seems any board worth its salt is still going for about $45 where I am, and then we would be confined to 2 ram slots. We already have 4 2gb ram sticks that we would like to use if at all possible, and an 8gb (2x4gb) kit is still going for about $40 where I am. but I do appreciate the reply and its probably going to be the route we go if we can't find any other viable alternative.

    I don't.

But the reason people might are:
    1. no cable clutter
    2. easier to move around
    3. easy to take keyboard with your
    4. possibility to move further away from desk
    5. you don't care about having to replace the batteries once a year (if you get a decent keyboard).

If you want to set up different devices completely then go for the E10K or the FX-Audio DAC X6 rather than the Sabaj PHA2 or SMSL SAPII.

Out of the four you have mentioned there, 2 are DAC's and two are amps. Both the E10K and the FX-Audio DAC X6 are DAC's and these basically use none of your motherboards audio whatsoever as they only really have USB input and as such will process their own audio from the computer, this is because they have their own audio controller on board and they'll connect differently to if they were plugged into your motherboards audio controller over 3.5mm audio jack.

The two others, the Sabaj PHA2 and the SMSL SAPII are both pre-amps and therefore they don't have an on board audio controller, they are only adding extra power to the audio signal from your motherboard that comes out of your 3.5mm audio jack. As you say, you are happy with your motherboard audio so these two may be better for your needs and simplicity.

Brennan Price got a reaction from inonotus in DT 990 + DAC/AMP? I`m so confused pls help me
You have several options here, first of all is whether you want to use the amplifier for more than headphones. For example, if you ever wanted to add passive speakers to your sound system etc, or, if you are solely using headphones to listen to things. At which stage, buy a speaker amplifier with a headphone output for the first option, or, just buy a plain and simple headphone amplifier/pre-amp to boost your audio quality/loudness for the latter.

The next thing to mention is whether you want to use a tube amp or a solid state amp. personally I prefer a decent tube amp for headphone listening whilst solid state for listening on my speakers. It is up to you but there are plenty of headphone pre-amps and amplifiers out there, it also depends on the budget at which you are looking at.
