  1. i have make sure that the installed instance are the 2.4.0. i seems to have found that he problems might be on the firewall settings. i have set some rules using iptables and ufw but still cannot connect to the server. in the client side it will say connection refused. using nc -v ip port command also returns blocked onnection.
  2. i tried doing that but it doesnt do anything to the server. I setup a virtual machine environment with the server running off ubuntu 17.04. when i check using the service openvpn status it says it still active..
  3. Hi, im currently facing a problem with some python codes i need to run for my assignments. Basicaly i need to recreate a vulnerabilities called openvpn dos (more info here: https://cve.mitre.org/cgi-bin/cvename.cgi?name=CVE-2017-7478). After some searching i find some codes that supposedly do the exploit, but it is on python which im not familiar with (https://www.exploit-db.com/exploits/41993/). Can someone with python knowledge help me understand the code, because upon running it i encountered some errors.
  4. Hi, I'm currently doing an assignment for my computer security degree. Basically, I have to replicate a pre-approved vulnerability and show it to my lecturer. The one I chose is OpenVPN DOS (CVE-2017-7478) where the attacker sends a big package before authentication to the server, and the server drops all connections because the big package is denied. But currently, I'm stuck at creating the old version OpenVPN server because all the tutorials only explain how to create the newer version. If anyone knows how to replicate the vulnerabilities (maybe there is a flaw in my method) please do inform me. Thank you! 5. Thank you for the reply, your drawings and build log is very comprehensive and helpful! But because of the other users, sayings that going ryzen is more future proof I'm starting to consider going ryzen. I will still keep your suggestion if maybe somehow in the future I want to go back and look into old server stuff!
  6. Thank you for the parts list, really appreciate that. I see the team red build and I will try parts it out here because it seems to be the better options since it has more cores. Thx again!
  7. I see the X9DRL-3F only have one PCIe 16x slot? which will be problematic if I want to add more GPUs to the system. I actually consider using ASRock epc2c602, but I don't know how will it perform.
  8. I see, ill try looking more into ryzen 2 because if the setup u described cost only $400 its still make sense budget wise. After a few browsing i also quite interested on the ryzen 7 because the higher speed. Thank you for the recommendation
  9. Hi, thank you for the reply. Personally, I like to use server grade hardware and recently I also develop liking to use scraps old hardware and make it able to compete with current generations hardware, so basically, that's the other reason why I'm looking at old server processors. Besides, if I can get processor and motherboard for less than the price for one ryzen processor wouldn't it be better?
  10. HI, thank you for your suggestion. I have look into this cpu and i think this will suit my needs quite perfectly. May i ask what motherboard, case, and powersupply you use for this build?
  11. Budget and location: The budget is around 1100USD but planning to upgrade the system later on. I just need the basic setup running (if the GPU is over budget then I will add it later when I have some more). I stay in Singapore and usually go back to Indonesia, but any good deals overseas I can consider. Aim: I plan to use this machine to do some coding work and sometimes will be used to render 3dsmax vray. So at least I want 4 cores and 8 threads on each CPU and they should be able to turbo up to 3Ghz. I occasionally game so anything that can give me decent fps with no stutter will do fine. I play Black Desert Online, CSGO, League of Legends, Skyrim, Mass Effect series (i sometimes play heavy title such as Witcher 3). Monitors: Planned to use dual monitor setup, will be running on plain 1080p Peripherals: I don't need any. Else: Because I don't know what motherboard to use, I will leave case options as anything that probably fits :p. I have some hardwares in hand already (275GB SSD, 1050 TI) which i think can be used in the build too, refer to my system list for complete parts.
  12. Im using razer deathstalker esential, i love the rgb colour and would love to try a new mechanical keyboard (deathstalker is membrane :V)
  13. I think all of them look elegant and simple to be used anywhere, but my personal favourite is the headphone. the combination between wood and steel looks very amazing, combining two different materials that we rarely see in computer peripheral makes it totaly awesome. the other peripheral that catch my eyes is the dimora mousepad, the border design that also rarely seen in mousepads makes it look elegant when used.
