I don't think it is about bragging rights. I am not against the Korean monitors, I am just aware that there is no such thing as a free lunch. If something is cheaper, it probably is for a reason. Further, they didn't offer me much of a cost savings to begin with. If you want a pixel perfect Korean monitor, it will cost you at least $330. If you want a 3 year warranty, that is another $50 at least. That's $390. If you want a nice stand (which I do), what another $60-100? so that is about $450-490. This does not cover any duties that I may have to pay getting it into Canada.  I bought my monitor from Dell (U2713HM), and it cost me $550. A whole $60-100 more than if I got it from a Korean reseller (with all the same warranties, guarantees, stand). And with Dell if anything goes wrong (ie dead pixel), they will let me keep using the monitor until my new one arrives. I would gladly pay an extra $60 for the hassle free aspect of the replacement policy alone, ignoring the fact that the Dell most likely has better construction and that you are dealing with a well established company, not an ebay reseller, who could disappear in a year ( or less ).

Snapshot RAID is just RAID that isn't done on a real-time basis. For instance, files that change a lot (like databases, an OS and certain applications) need to always have the necessary RAID calculations being done to make sure that they are fully protected. For data that doesn't change often, it is far more efficient to do the RAID calculation on a scheduled basis (e.g. every few hours or even days) to save processing power.

    Well played sir.

There are alternatives to the Essence One, and at lower prices which would leave more room for better speakers/headphones. Always choose better speakers/headphones over a "better" soundcard.

    Schiit Modi + Magni
    FiiO E9k + E17

Pair the output of the Modi or E9k with a Lepai amp to drive the speakers and you're golden. Don't let the $20 price tag of the Lepi, nor the $500+ dollar price of the Essence one fool you

I would personally go with windows running FlexRAID in RAID 5.
You wont need a RAID card just the motherboard SATA ports.
And you can share just like any other windows drive.

PS: im working on a FlexRAID tutorial (hoping to finish it this weekend)

If you're just using it for media backup and streaming for a few people, then you'd be more than okay with an APU or an i3/pentium chip

Hi, I was wondering the other day whether one large ssd would be a better choice, or two smaller ones in RAID 0. Well it just so happenens that I found an article explaining this exactly, so I thought I would share it with everyone else! Enjoy :)

The Dell U2713H is the only option really (Not to be confused with the U2713HM).  I guess there's also the older Dell U2711 which the 2713 replaced, it uses a CFL backlight so is thicker and more power hungry, and a slightly lower color gamut.

mapexlegend reacted to R4STABAN in 2Gb or 4Gb for 1440p?
How many people that have posted in the thread have gamed at this res or greater while limited to 2gb vram?
The vram topic pops up on forums daily and people gaming at 1080p chip in as if they know what they're talking about.

    I run 3 x 1080p (1440p is ~60% of this) with 2 2gb 680s and here's my experiences:

-I always disable windows aero when gaming on newer games (saves ~200-300mb vram)
-I used to play battlefield 3 on ultra but had to turn aa down to 2x, I would usually play on high because 680s aren't powerful enough.
-If you run out of vram your game will crash or you will trudge along at 1fps, I can force this to happen by turning AA up to 8x or w/e silly value you want.
-If I ever push settings high enough to push me close to the vram limit my fps is already rubbish because gk104 and the 256bit bus can't handle it.

    For 1440p 4gb is not a necessity.
-On 1440p you don't need as high AA because of the good pixel density MSAA is a vram hog.
-If it's not too much more money, it may be worth it, but it's not worth spending loads extra on, because..
-AMD spanks nvidia above 1080p by a bigger margin than below it. (7950s make 680s look rubbish), they're cheaper and come with more vram too if you're worried.

Something like MSI's Z77A-GD65, Gigabyte's Z77X-UD3H or ASUS's P8Z77-V LK motherboard are excellent for overclocking.

I'm perplexed as to why everyone is hating on B-roll i see hundreds of comments on Youtube and quite a few on the forum saying "B-roll is so shaky and cant focus and he is stupid" and I don't think that he deserves all that hate. In my opinion he is doing a perfectly fine job. Sure he can be shaky from time to time but slick wasn't much better when he started. I don't understand why no one can give him a chance. And even if he did suck (which i dont think he does) how else is he going to get better if he doesn't get to film anything? you also have to admit Linus is a bit hard to film he moves around a lot. Also they have been filming outside a lot and I'm sure it can be a bit difficult not all ground is even and sometimes he may have to stand on a curb and balance or something. I'm sure the guy is nervous there is 330,773 people judging his work. I just feel bad for the guy seeing all those negative comments it must be difficult to keep doing what you love with everyone tearing you down. All I'm asking is for everyone to treat him like hes in the room with you and keep your thoughts to your self or at least be constructive with you judging. It would make me sad to see all these nice people on this forum start being jerks. and yes i know i sound like the leave Brittany alone guy i just want this to be a nice forum. And i like seeing the tech tips family grow.
