  1. I just bought these from Silverstone. Almost identical to the Bitfenix ones but the power cables are not sleeved in black. Bonus for being half the price too. http://www.amazon.com/Silverstone-Tek-Flexible-12-Inch-LS01W/dp/B00DJ7BNWA/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1376769419&sr=8-1&keywords=silverstone+ls01 I did a quick overview in my build log. See post 33+ http://linustechtips.com/main/topic/35467-asus-gryphon-matx-haswell-build/page-2#entry625561
  2. Yea I played with the lighting before mounting it and this seemed like the best at the time. However, I think I might redo the bottom to face up and keep the top facing the mobo. On the top when I faced it downwards, it was too dark. The bottom if faced up might spread more light on the GPU cables. I think since my GPU takes up a bunch of space, it blocks a bit up light in the middle. In person, its actually not that dark though.
  3. Just a small update, I ordered some white LED's because it was pretty dark in there in the evenings and night. I was looking at the Bitfenix Alchemy but just when I was about to buy them, Newegg went out of stock. :P So I did some digging around and came across these from SilverStone. They look pretty much spot on with the Bitfenix ones, but the power cables are not black. Similar style connectors that allow it to be daisy chained together. http://www.amazon.com/Silverstone-Tek-Flexible-12-Inch-LS01W/dp/B00DJ7BNWA/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1376769419&sr=8-1&keywords=silverstone+ls01 But, at about half the price for these compared to the Bitfenex for the same length, I decided to give them a shot. It's hard to get the lighting on camara, but here is the best pic I could muster. In person its much more natural looking. The contents of the package. 12 in strip with 15 LED's Up close Overall the build quality was really good. The colored wires are not pretty but I was able to tuck it away pretty well underneath the HDD tray and in the optical drive bay. Also the power cable is extremely short. In a pinch I used two of my 4 pin braided cables so that I could connect to the top and bottom. Overkill, as an extension cable would have been a better option. I may do that later on. Recommended for sure.
  4. I'm also in the "didn't buy because of color group. They don't look terrible, but I went with Corsair SP and AF fans because they performed well for my application and looked great. I get that you may not care for what your rig looks like, and that's totally fine. However there are others like myself that enjoy building something that not only performs well, but also looks good. My computer is sitting on my desk and I see it all the time. I put a lot of hours into, choosing my specs, putting it together, cable management, and overall just making it my computer. To me, I want to see inside my case. Its a personal preference and everyone has a different opinion.
  5. Most likely will not see it. Not really a MAC guy. But I do recognize the importance of Steve Jobs contribution in the computer community. Don't really need a movie to see that.
  6. I finally get home from work at a decent hour to catch the live show and its not on! Why billy why!
  7. Awesome man! I have one 7970 Matrix Plat. I can only imagine how balls to the wall two would be. B)
  8. Might want to check with Corsair if you can remove the speaders without voiding the warranty. http://forum.corsair.com/v3/forumdisplay.php?f=201 They don't sell the Ven Pros without heatspreaders so your only option would be to remove them and take a chance. Is the watercooling for looks? Cause I can't see getting much more performance with watercooling RAM. Good luck though!
  9. Good idea. It doesn't bother me though. I don't want to remove any stickers and void my warranty in the event I need to RMA. Maybe a magnetic piece will cover it?
  10. Great, glad you could take advantage of the deal! I read the review that you are referring to, but I don't understand what that person had issues with. I used the motherboard cpu mounting hardware (The 1155 screws) and had no issues whatsoever. I'm guessing that they used the wrong screws for 2011? Anyway, you should be good to go.
  11. I don't believe I have seen the review you are referring to, but I didn't have any issues installing the H100i with this mobo. I will say however that it is a tight squeeze with the armor installed. There isn't a lot of clearance when the tubes are facing to the left. I installed my 8pin and armor fan before mounting the rad. I only used the hardware provided by Corsair, mounting screws, washers, and ran it right through the rubber grommets of the case. Do you happen to have a link to the review? Thanks! I read a comment from J.J. on YouTube mentioning that they were going to look into doing another run, but I have not heard anything since. I is a really nice card and I was lucky enough to buy one second hand for a decent price on HardForum. Just a heads up for you guys on the fence or waiting to buy this board, Newegg is offering a free Armor kit with purchase. That is a pretty nice deal. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813131977
  12. I haven't but I have seen others who have done it and it looks pretty good that way. For me, I may just leave it there in the event I might want to toss cables or misc stuff in there. Plus I have power and data cables routed behind it. I don't plan on using any Optical or fan controllers as it pretty much destroys the sleek front. Its actually great! As far as I can tell there is no coil whine and its Hybrid fan mode is silent when powered on. The 860 is way more power than I need, but I figured that I could add another card later down the road. Thanks for the feedback guys!
  13. Thanks M-ursu and TheIceCage! Its my first attempt at these braided cables and they are super stiff! I might play with them a bit more to get them tucked a bit better. The back had to be pushed and held in order to get it on. In person the metallic graphite looks like carbon fiber. Has a really nice sheen to it.
  14. Finally after about a month of waiting for some decent sales (picked up the 4670K for $199) and putting everything together, my latest build is complete. More pics here: http://s840.photobucket.com/user/NeloDiavolo/slideshow/Micro%20ATX%20Build New parts: Corair 350D w/Corsair AF140 front, AF120 rear Quiet Intel 4670K Asus Gryphon w/thermal armor Corsair Vengeance Pro 8GB Corsair H100i w/Corsair SP120 Performance Corsair AX860 w/metallic graphite braided cables Reused from old build: Asus ROG Matrix 7970 Platinum Samsung 830 128GB Seagate Barracuda 1.5TB Western Digital Raptor 150GB Getting the Mobo, RAM, H100i, Power Supply installed. Changed the fan rings to white. CPU, Hard Drives, 7970, and cables going in. All power and data connectors hidden in back of HDD\Optical bays. Just another angle, I originally had the H100i fan cables but ditched them in favor of some NZXT braided extension fan cables and just connected them to the mobo. Fans up front without cover. I think it looks good. Maybe when it gets hot outside I'll pull the cover off and let a little more air in. With the side panel on. Overall I am pretty happy with the results. There are a few users out there with the same case and motherboard and I was curious how the Gryphon's colors would look once everything was packed in there. Honestly you can't really see any brown with the armor kit installed. The braided cables look awesome in person. I'm glad I decided to buy them over the red. And the thing is pretty quiet compared to my old Cooler Master Stacker 830 case. :P I put the step-down converters on the SP120's, but if I ever need more power I can take them off. Thanks for looking! B)
  15. You young wippersnappers! My first computer was made out of wood and it ran on hopes and dreams! OK JK. My first build was with a LanParty SLI-DR socket 939 Mobo with an AMD Athlon 64 processor 3200+ and 4GB of OCZ Platinum DDR RAM. OP, I know how you feel about not being able to sleep. I just the final piece of my Haswell build today (4670K) and I have not completed it tonight. Now I have to sleep, go to work, and won't be able to finish till later tomorrow. :(
  16. I literally laughed out loud after reading Linus's comment. OP I hope it gets resolved quickly.
  17. Yea it looks correct pin wise. This is quite a conundrum. OP, do you have any spare DDR3 RAM you can try?
  18. It might be the angle...but is it me or does that RAM notch look offset to the board?
  19. ^^^Of course that's eye of the beholder. I actually think the Ven Pros look very modern and just a step below the Dom Plats in looks. I have the Pros in Silver and it really looks great in person. There is a nice metallic look and they have a solid feel to them. Blend in well when slotted into the Mobo and not too overbearing like other extreme RAM heatsinks.
  20. It should fit unless there is something wrong with your RAM and or Mobo. Are you sure you just need to put more pressure to snap it in?
  21. Awesome build 7amadino89! I'm going with the 350D and Gryphon with Armor and should have everything this week.
  22. From my experience with friends I know, beginners go into the gym and decide to lift more than they can handle for a normal set. So the next few days they are unable to move because they are injured or beyond sore. They didn't heed to my advice to start with light weights concentrate on form first, which in turn discourages them and causes them to just quit before they even get started. I got lucky when starting out myself because my neighbor was into free weights and he showed me how to correctly lift and was my spotter for helping me with moving above my failure tolerance.
  23. If you haven't already, head over to the Corsair forums and ask the support team if they can look into it. They are also pretty good at taking care of their customers there. They might have been able to replace it for you for no cost. http://forum.corsair.com/v3/index.php I'm pretty lucky though. I live only an hour away from the main shipping center in San Jose and the items I buy from them came within a day.
  24. Is this the 8GB kit? If you are not going to take advantage of the speed of the ram, then I suggest that you return it for the 1600 version. You can grab the 16GB for $159, or the 8GB 1600 kit for $103.
