I have an Odyssey and an original Vive.
Since the Odyssey has the same resolution as the Vive Pro I would say there is no way the increased resolution you get is at all worth the price HTC is asking for the Vive Pro.

I picked up the Odyssey for DCS World and Elite hoping it would make text more readable and it does but it's only about 20% better.
It's still not enough to read all the gauges clearly.

I would say if you already have an original Vive then stick with that until we see what happens with the Pimax 8K or the real Gen 2 headsets come out.

DrJones reacted to Brooksie359 in Wait for hdmi 2.1 or get 144hz monitor for gaming?
Don't need to implement it for monitors that don't need the bandwidth. Once you have a monitor that needs it they will implement it. The whole idea of even caring about what cord is future proof is just dumb. You get a monitor you want and it comes with the cord needed to use it and if you need a longer one you buy the required kind. It's very simple and you don't need to over think it. The 4k "144hz" monitor coming out soon will use a cord capable of running a 4k 120hz monitor. They use compression to get it to run at 144hz for some odd reason.

Brand: no, maybe just picture quality ( But this is mostly affected by the TYPE of display, hence why I recommended an IPS panel, not the brand)
Length: Not at all, unless you're plugging in a bunch of extenders or going more than 25ft maybe

M50X would work for DJing because sound quality doesn’t matter for that, but both the M40X and M50X would suck at mixing. Neither are flat and both V shaped. But M40X is better than M50X.

DrJones reacted to Morgan MLGman in RX 580 worse performance than GTX 1050 using Pentium G4560
He cannot do that with his current motherboard as an i5-8600K requires the 300-series chipset. I suggest getting an i7-7700 as OPs motherboard is most likely a B250/H270 board, though if you can't afford it then an i5-7500 will do the job too, it just won't suffice for another GPU upgrade.

Also, about the FreeSync monitor with an RX 580, it helps with stuttering and makes the gameplay smoother for a more enjoyable experience so it's up to your budget. If you're not satisfied with your current monitor and you have an RX 580 then I don't see a reason not to get a FreeSync one as they're sometimes at almost the same price as non-FreeSync ones.

I just got it with the extras $60 which isn't too bad. I've got some grand canyon pictures I took last summer that I still want to do so I'm looking forward to it.

Hey, check out luminar. It is about $40 to preorder now. It's above your budget but I'm not sure if you can get anything good for under that unfortunately.
Edit: GIMP is a free alternative to photoshop.

You simply need a modem and router capable of the speed you receive from your provider. Most will list compatible hardware on their website, or the specs of what's required

Yeah you would need some sort of controller (I have no idea what exactly though). Those riser cards are hardly used anymore, and never for consumer applications. I don't think they were ever intended for GPU use or anything like that.

The next issue that comes up is actually mounting the cards.

DrJones got a reaction from thenzfarmer in M.2 SSD temperature
The problem with these M.2's is that they're known to cause a lot of heat, which is why I think it's stupid motherboard manufacturers are trying to cram them in places due to their small size. From the looks of the picture, I don't know if you'll have room to do this. But what I did was take some little MOSFET heatsinks and stuck them on the controller chip with 3M thermal tape. (The controller chip is the one that gets really hot, it's normally the one closest to the part that plugs in). If you  have the room, you can stick some more heatsinks on the memory chips themselves (the 2-4 identical ones following the controller chip).
I saw a huge decrease in temperature after doing this with my 950 Pro.

That quote is a perfect example of someone getting PO'd cause they can't have what someone else has. It took me TWO YEARS to save up for my dream PC, and I can happily say I have it now. People nowadays don't understand hard work and dedication to be successful, instead they frown upon the others who are already there.

That's pretty fast already. Typeracer is a nice fun way. Just get used typing with the correct fingers, I cheat a little because typing a letter with one finger may be more comfortable for me than another.

Practice, just typing in general is the only way to get better

DrJones got a reaction from Changis in How do I REALLY avoid static while building?
I used an anti-static mat grounded to my PSU or case when working with the motherboard out of the case. For the rest I just used a wrist strap grounded to the same thing, PSU or case.
I committed the 'carpet sin' and worked at my desk which was on carpet the whole time. I never saw an issue with static as long as I was grounded or touched the case every now and then.
I'm not saying work on carpet, but i'm just telling you I didn't have any issues (just take the right precautions)

DrJones got a reaction from Changis in How do I REALLY avoid static while building?
It can be if you wear socks on carpet and wait way too long to ground yourself  I touched my case after walking around for awhile with socks on got quite the shock, even saw the little bolt between my finger and the case. I would imagine the same shock directly to a small component on the motherboard could damage something.

I never saw a shock like I had experienced in that video which is interesting. I'm just saying things can happen. Will they? Probably not...

DrJones reacted to kalnick in How do I REALLY avoid static while building?
Highly unlikely that anyone is going to build up a large enough static charge to require you to be grounded to your house's ground.
Been building pcs since the late 90s, always just used an esd strap connected to the case or a metal desk. Never had any issues.
Why do people make things so complicated and convoluted when they don't need to be
THis is why people are afraid to build PCs people make seem so much harder and scarier then it really is.

Build you pc in the middle of you living room on your carpet if you want it wont really matter.
