Vinnybomp reacted to Stefan Payne in server psu in a desktop
To be honest, I've used a 5€(!!) Server PSU a couple of Months/weeks/years.
Need to mod one of the connectors though. And it wasn't that annoying.
Was a 460W NMB by the way. (yeah, NMB, the Fan Guys aka Minebea)....

2-socket Epyc server boards are ridiculous enough. Supermicro already has boards with up to 32 DIMMs split across two CPUs.
I'm also sure that AMD has limited the socket count to 2, given that they're physically large as they are, and having 8 of them is physically impossible with current hardware. You'll need a ridiculously large server board in a proprietary form factor.
Plus to fit those in a tower chassis, you're going to have to go custom.

WHAT HAVE YOU SAID? I CAN'T HEAR YOU; MY SERVER PSU IS SO LOUD!
And that's the disadvantage of server PSU in a Desptop.
Aside from that, nothing wrong with it.
Well, if it fits of course...
There are about two dozen different specification.
and always check if you really have an ATX compatible Server PSU and not something like ATX GES, WTX and other non ATX compatible shit...

YA AGREED, THIS STUPID NEX B1 IS ALSO SO LOUD but I shouldn't be shouting since my computer is presently broken.

That looks interesting Although I'd probably want a quiet fan in a server PSU in a desktop case I was using.
I'd like to be able to put a server motherboard in a desktop case some day without voiding the warranty due to modding the case.
For example, something like an 8-socket-SP3 version of one of these:
In one of these:
While simultaneously being able to fit all of...
Without needing one of these to house it all.
Or needing to spend about as many (or more) of these than would fit in the above "case".
And I'm sure I forgot a bunch of things Not that I can afford them anyway, and yes I know I'm dreaming
