  1. Hi Sakkura, thanks for responding. Yes it's a bit confusing, however I'm aware of the difference ISRT is a feature of RST. I was indeed wondering if it would work with PCIe - and when reading the help file of IRST I', I'm led to believe it should work. I've attached screenshot - sorry it's in danish, but last line reads: "Creating of a cache-disk on PCIe SSD with Intel SRT is also supported".
  2. Hi I'm trying to accelerate my harddrive array with a Samsung 950 Pro through the Intel Rapid Storage Technology application. It sees my harddrives but not my 950 Pro. For testing I also installed a Sandisk SSD over Sata3 - that's showing up fine and can be used for caching. According to this link, RST should support NVMe drives: https://downloadcenter.intel.com/download/25165/Intel-Rapid-Storage-Technology-Intel-RST-RAID-Driver The 950 Pro is showing in disk management and can be used as a typical drive without problems. (I'm booting off of another 950 Pro.) The caching drive is installed into the motherboard's M.2 slot, and the boot drive is connected through Asus' HyperKit in PCIe16_3. I've installed the most recent v14 of RST, and also Samsung's NVMe driver.
  3. Ok. So if Lenovo part # 0C19548 where 300$ cheaper than Intel product code CM8063501374802 you'd definately buy it from Lenovo and have no worries it would be compatible with a board such as ASUS Z9PE-D8 WS, even though Lenovo lists the product as an "Option for ThinkServer RD540/RD640"?
  4. That's really beside the point. Could we just stay on track please
  5. Because they're cheaper from my local dealer for some reason.
  6. Thanks, but that site doesn't differentiate between Lenovo branded CPU's and Intel branded ones. I'm specifically trying to figure out the difference between a "Lenovo Xeon E5-2690v2" (hence the link) and a "Intel Xeon E5-2690v2". Obviously Lenovo doesn't make their own CPU's, but maybe they have different IHS or other modifications that would make them compatible only with Lenovo servers / WS. That's what I'm hoping to clarify.
  7. The link was just for reference, I'm buying at another site (if I can confirm it's compatibility).
  8. Hi all I'm planning a workstation build for video editing. It seems I can get the outragely expensive E5-2690v2 at a huge discount if I buy the Lenovo version: http://shop.lenovo.com/us/en/itemdetails/0C19548/460/BEF3B04373D64DD2886183979E39F5E3#0C19548 Would (2x) this CPU be compatible with the ASUS Z9PE-D8 WS motherboard, or is there something with the Lenovo version that differs from the "normal" Intel Xeon E5-2690v2?
  9. Thanks for enlightening me all
  10. Wow, lots of great answers! I should've known the bit about Mac addresses - remember cloning one from a PC to a router once, for legitimate purpose ofc. My pw is definately next to impossible to guess, a ridicolous made-up word with caps and symbols mixed in. I'm not overly worried about getting hacked, just don't want anyone but my friends being able to use my network. My WPA is currently WPA2 only - TKIP & AES. Guess I'll chance it to AES only then, though I don't know what the difference is
  11. I currently have my router setup so it requires 3 things to logon: The SSID is hidden so you most know the name, 14 character password, and Network filtering (your Mac address must be entered in the router GUI) Of cause it gets a bit annoying if my guests wants to use my wifi. I'm wondering, which of the 3 are the most important / would be toughest to hack through? Would it be unhackable with just 1 or 2 of them?
  12. My friend asked advice for buying a new GFX for her son. His specs are: MB: M5A78L-M LX/BR CPU: AMD FX-610 GFX: HD6850 PSU: 600w with aparently just a single PCIE cable (he were my eyes) She told me he wanted a 550ti, but learning about his current spec I told him that it wouldn't be an upgrade. I've convinced her she needs to buy him a 650TI, but then I thought I'd be a nice guy and shell out the extra bugs for an 660ti. It seems to me the MB is only PCIE gen 1... Would he even benefit from the 660 over the 650?
  13. Were there no Live Stream last week, or have it just not made it to YouTube yet?
  14. Wasn't sure how to link the actual retweet, but here's my profile: https://twitter.com/Weng_DK I might be too late, if so that's fine :)
