    Sure, I can help.
Which lens are you using? Do a Google search for "focus test chart" or read this article: https://photographylife.com/how-to-quickly-test-your-dslr-for-autofocus-issues/ Print out the test chart in the article and/or the chart from this discussion: https://www.dpreview.com/forums/post/54034945 Put your camera on a tripod or at least some stable surface and zoom in/focus on the printed test charts.  Using test charts like these will help determine if the camera or lens has a focusing issue.  Then you just use the AF Fine Tune feature in the camera menu to make adjustments if there are focusing issues.

I'm looking at the technical specs for the D500 on their website, and while 4K video they offer 144mbps bitrate, I'm not particularly impressed by the bitrates for 1080p.

What do you want to use the D500 for?  I see Nikon as mainly a photography camera manufacturer, they have very little background in producing video cameras.  At least compared to Sony, Canon and Panasonic.  If you want good quality video from a Nikon camera:
Get things right in camera so minimal color grading, noise reduction, color correction, sharpening, etc. is needed OR use an external recorder like an Atomos device to record the higher quality output from the HDMI out. And if you're going to use the D500 for video, you need to learn, practice, experiment (because different cameras can have different "quirks" that you need to figure out to capture the best image).

you can set your drive to automount through the disk manager, its much more user friendly than editing the /etc/fstab

ps. theres no C: drive in linux, I had to double check the title of the post

Mind  that, when setting a mount point, you chose the same one it gets when you're accessing it now (probably something under /media/yourusername), otherwise Steam will not find the game files where it's used to them being.

I'm guessing the drive doesn't get mounted until you open it in Nautilus.
The solution would be adding an entry in /etc/fstab that would mount the drive automatically like your main one. See link

Yes, Windows 10 is free if you have a key for win 7, 8, and 8.1

Also, why upgrade?  There are no DX12 titles out and the benefits of Windows 10 include sending data to "Improve your service."
It's a good OS, but in my opinion, not worth the upgrade.

Like I said I am probably upgrading it again when 4K becomes possible with reasonable price. So probably the a bit less powerful now is the way to go.

Really? Only install for testing and troubleshooting purposes? Yes I admit, Windows is more consumer friendly, but Linux always will have the upper hand in boot times and memory and management. Also, since Vulcan is coming out, which supports Linux, and a lot of devs have already have said Vulcan is better than DX12, the gaming issue may be soon resolved. Could you give a reason why you think it's only got testing and troubleshooting?
