  1. Hello, I have a problem where software and games load slowly, but that happens only sometimes and the problem will last until PC is rebooted. The behavior is similar to having a really bad and slow hard drive. However it doesn't seem to be fully related on to how "heavy" the game or software is. Opening something extremely simple such as a calculator or text editor may take 10 seconds to open, but opening a game can also take as much time. I would say the problem occurs every 5-10 time the computer is started, and like I said when I reboot the problem will go away. When the problem is in effect watching htop doesn't show anything weird. CPU, RAM, etc show usage as expected. I've updated BIOS to the latest and it had no effect. Switched off all tree hugging options from BIOS I could find, tried different XMP options, tried to default BIOS settings. If you have some exact option in BIOS in mind that could result to this kind if behavior please tell. I've benchmarked the disks and checked SMART, all seem ok, results here: SMART results: I am not a hard drive expert but I assume according to results above the disks should are fine? From where should I continue troubleshooting? Asus Radeon RX 6600 XT Dual Intel I7 11700K Asus Z590-A Prime Corsair Dominator Platinum 2x8GB DDR4 3200MHz Corsair RM850x Ubuntu 22.04.3 LTS Kernel 6.2.2-060202-generic (tested on different kernels) I've used Wayland and Xorg, problem exists using both.

  3. Alright actually warranty might be right on this one. The 5700XT works fine on another computer I tested it on. Why does it sometimes have bad performance on my computer then? I have tried to google this issue but I haven't seen anyone having problem of this kind.
  4. He did not. But I would imagine it being a near impossible task to determine what exactly is physically broken on the card as the problem exists only intermittently
  5. Unfortunately I kind of tried that already. I got a report from them how they diagnosed the issue. I showed that to the store where I bought the GPU but they didn't care about it at all, they just told me "If we can't find anything wrong with it, then there isn't anything wrong with it"
  6. Tl;dr: Computer sometimes boots slowly and performance is bad after that. Problem exists in BIOS as well. Computer works fine with new GPU. Tried to take the old one for warranty and they stated there is nothing wrong with the card. So first I noticed that the computer would boot up slower than usual but only sometimes, it also affects computer performance. There would be significantly lower FPS in games that made them unplayable and demanding software would load up slower. I started digging in to what would be causing it and initially I thought it would be a software issue. But I noticed that the same slowness sometimes exists in BIOS too, which would have nothing to do with GPU drivers or is in any else way related to software. BIOS menu could barely be usable with mouse as there would be a 5 second delay when moving cursor or pressing a keyboard button. But when rebooting the problem would usually go away. I removed the GPU (Radeon RX5700XT Strix) and tested with integrated graphics and my good old trusty Radeon 6950 and they both worked fine. Boot up would be lightning fast and no performance issues. Just to be sure I took my PC to computer repair shop and they came to the same conclusion, GPU is broken. So I bought a new GPU, Radeon 6600XT and it works just fine, no problems whatsoever. There is one year warranty left for the card 5700XT and tried to return it for warranty and they sent it to somewhere for testing. The card came back yesterday and they told me that they tested the card and found nothing wrong with it. They told me that they booted it several times in different ways but couldn't see any issue with it. PCIE settings have been checked out and tried on default BIOS settings. Also tested with new RAM sticks. Considering that the problem exists in BIOS too it should not be a software issue, also the fact that my computer works fine with a new GPU, everything would indicate that the RX5700XT would be broken. Or is there something I am missing here? Is there something that could cause such an issue other than the GPU? (Most likely)Broken card is Asus Radeon RX5700XT Strix, Mobo is Asus Z590-A. New card is Asus Radeon RX 6600XT DUAL
  7. Does GPU placement really matter on my motherboard? To my understanding they are all the same, three PCIe 4.0 slots x16 I have it on the second one, no chance to fit it to the first one because there is watercooling stuff on the way. And even if there would be any difference, how could it be possible to restrict performance to very poor level but only on some startups?
  8. I've been troubleshooting a problem where my PC would boot and operate slowly but only sometimes. Slow boot and poor performance would start the moment I would press the power button, monitor would stay blank for several seconds and then the motherboard (Prime Z590-A) ASUS logo would slowly load to my screen. And when entering BIOS it would be so sluggish that mouse navigation is not possible because there is a 2-3 second delay when moving mouse cursor. If I would continue to boot in this state programs and games would take ages to load and the FPS in games would be horrendously poor. And if I would reboot there is a chance that it would boot just fast and normally and no problems whatsoever. Because the problem extends to BIOS and loading ASUS logo it would certainly be a hardware issue. I replaced RAM's to brand new and tried with different hard drive. My friend gave me a tip that I could remove my RX5700XT and use integrated graphics. I tried that and sure enough the boot was lightning fast every single time and it worked just fine. So I tested my old AMD 6950 to see if the PCIe bus is somehow broken or bad settings on it, that was not the case as the 6950 was also booting fast and working just as expected. So in 99% certainty the problem would be the RX5700XT, right? It has warranty left on it so I could return it but I am very curious to know what on earth could cause the GPU to be broken like that that it would cause problems but only some boots? Memory on it is somehow broken or what?
  9. Exactly, could you give me a hint what I might be doing wrong?
  10. I don't know or have a lot of experience on DSLRs and the D500 isn't mine so it might be just some simple fix that I don't realize? So the footage shot on 1080p is pretty much equivalent to my Samsung S3 phone. At 4K it is significantly better but when comparing it to other videos on Youtube I don't think that is right either. I have tried playing with the AF stuff and other different focus settings, tried it on manual etc. but no difference. I tried the AF fine tune calibration but also that didn't help. 11. I'm sorry, I don't understand. How do I know it is matched in steam? Edit: nvm. The steam games were installed on /media/username/diskname/steam. So I just set the mount point to /media/username/diskname and voila, works great.
  12. So I am at the disk manager and opened the mount options for the disk. It was already set to automatic, however the mount point is set to "/mnt/202E89EA2E89B8F4" and I assume that is not what it is supposed to be, right? What should I set it to? "/media/username"? 13. Hi I have my OS, Steam and couple small games stored on my C drive and the rest are on my another hard drive, but the games stored on it are grayed out until I open the hard drive in Nautilus and restart Steam. It isn't a huge issue to just click the hard drive button and restart Steam, but I have had this problem as long as I can remember so I think it is time that I do something about it.
  14. Yes thanks, I also found that thread but enabling those backports and what not is way too difficult for me.
  15. I see only windows drivers. It says Linux Mint right there in the title, did you even read the title and my post or are you too busy grinding that sweet post count up like everyone else on this forum.
  16. Well I don't think it is the router since it wont find any other networks either. There are no drivers on HP's website.
  17. Hey, after a hassle I finally managed to install Linux Mint to my HP Pavilion dv7 laptop. Next problem was that it didn't connect to my router via WiFi, I got it working by making a hotspot with my phone and connecting to it. I found out that it has a Qualcomm Atheros AR542x wireless network adapter and some terminal commands that I could try, they only made it worse. Now it won't find any available networks. The terminal commands were: echo "options ath5k nohwcrypt=1" | sudo tee /etc/modprobe.d/ath5k.conf sudo modprobe -rfv ath5k sudo modprobe -v ath5k What should I do?
  18. http://www.phoronix.com/scan.php?page=article&item=steamos-22-gpus&num=1 Are you sure? Yes that test doesn't feature 380 but shows you how shitty the other AMD cards run compared to Nvidia.
  19. Suomi finland perkele. http://www.jimms.fi/fi/Product/Show/111496/turbo-gtx960-oc-2gd5/asus-gtx-960-turbo-oc-2gb-gddr5-pci-e-3_0-tarjousera Like I said I am probably upgrading it again when 4K becomes possible with reasonable price. So probably the a bit less powerful now is the way to go.
  20. Hey guys, I am currently thinking of upgrading my GPU from 6950 to something better with a max budget of 250€. I am not putting whole lot of money in it because 4K stuff is just around the corner so I will most likely upgrade it again when 4K gaming becomes possible on a reasonable price. I am running Linux so I shouldn't consider AMD cards, right? I have been thinking of 950 Strix and 960's and don't know which one of them to get. There is currently Asus 960 Turbo on sale here where I live, only 189€ so it seems to be very cheap compared to the other 960's which are about 230-250€ but I am not sure if that is the one I should buy because it is not very popular card and the cooling doesn't look very good on it, which would limit the overclocking capabilities. Should I just buy the cheap 960 Turbo since I wont be using it for that long, or just buy something else?
