Switched from Mint to Manjaro recently because i had such a good experience with it previously but its been just as bad as mint so far if not worse. Games were easier to set up, but the NVIDIA drivers were even more of a complete bitch and there are just so many annoying things. Time wasn't right even when it was in the right timezone, it forgets where my screens are supposed to be every time it wakes from sleep, there was a notification sound when the next song played in Spotify... like what the fuck, my experience on my G3250 + GT1030 system was so damn good, pretty much just worked. Kernel update was easy and NVIDIA drivers were one click but on my I7 4790K + GTX 1080 system its been a huge fucking pain in the ass and i honestly wish i had never switched. Cant be bothered to go back because Mint was grueling to get to play games but this was not really an improvement.

Well, it seems the PG279QZ that was supposed to be the replacement is now PRICIER than this instead of being cheaper like it's supposed to be....  I'd love to pull the trigger but until I know how much I'm spending on labor for my car I cant be making big purchases like this.

Been comparing stats between the Cryorig QF120 Balance (The stock fan on the Cryorig H7) and this. Static pressure is significantly greater while being 3db silent-er at 200rpm higher.....There's no reason why I shouldnt love this, but there's also no need for me to have this since my 4790k never goes over 75C.

I still am waiting on the black versions for when I do custom watercooling.

*Edit* I just realized this was the first thing I've purchased on amazon for myself in 2019 that wasnt a $2 hose fitting for my car LOL

OK, I decided to OC my 1700 again on the new MSI Tomahawk b450.

I'm using 1.35Vcore @3900Mhz, so it's a fair bit higher voltage than on my b350 from Asrock to be stable.

One weird thing though... it seems that on this motherboard to be able to use AMD CnQ to lower clockspeed when not needed, that I need more voltage, which is why the 1.35v. If I lower the voltage, the clockspeed is static, and yes I did check that CnQ is still active etc. I mean it's not a big deal over all, but just seems strange behaviour.

LOL - has some interesting moments during the weekend.

Managed to drop the Ryzen 1700 out of the socket somehow even though it was "locked" at the time... bending a pin in the process. Luckily it wasn't that bad and got it back to how it should be with the help of some needle point tweezers. Ran out of TIM twice, had less than I thought of my IC diamond and Noctua pastes, luckily I had some stuff from when I bought other coolers, which will do for now. I got some "help" from my brother, in that he plugged in the front panel connectors for me.... didn't think about it after that. Then my build wouldn't POST, no fans or anything, so checked PSU/RAM etc, even swapping in another CPU in case the 1700 had been the problem... nothing, so pulled loads of stuff out, including some well managed cable runs. Noticed that the board was working for bios flashback, but still nothing else - and then I "lighbulbed" checked the front panel connectors, and saw they were plugged into the com panel instead. Plugged them in where they should go, and hey presto everything is working 🤣 Got my server build up and running now also, which is a nice thing again, now my desktop only is on for when I need it. decided on windows for OS, and imported my array into storage spaces, so no messing about with transferring needed - I have it hooked up to my UPS, with also my router/3 switches/mesh - and between them only consuming around 78 watts. This is with 4x 4TB HDDs and an M.2 SATA drive for OS. Main PC build is set to stock settings again at the moment, deciding whether I even need an OC right now... plus having to get used to the MSI interface again, not a big fan of it to be honest.... and OC isn't as good, needing more voltage than on my Asrock b350 mobo in initial testing of it. But it's all SSD now with my 970 evo and mx500... deciding if I even need any HDD storage other than USB for backups.

I cant wait till DDR4 prices hit their all time low in September 2016, which for 16GB DDR4 2666mhz was like $65 for G-Skill Ripjaws V(This kit specifically)
    https://pcpartpicker.com/product/hCzZxr/gskill-memory-f42666c15d16gvb

I bought this kit two years for Blue Build (2017). For the first time since that date, I can purchase it now for less than I paid for it then. (I wish PCPartPicker saved more than just the last two years worth of price history)

Now I know you can get 3000+ speed for even less than this, but this was one of the cheapest Blue memory sticks at the time.

Well, finally bit the bullet and got a few new hardware pieces. Got the b450 Tomahawk for an upgrade for my 1700 system, also a meshify C case. So my case and other hardware, like my asrock b450 and fractal design node 804 is now gonna be hosting my new rebuilt server, which I also bought a Athlon 200GE to go in there with. And will be running either ESXi with VMs for windows/freenas etc... or just windows for serving media and HTPC use if and when required... haven't decided fully yet, but leaning more towards windows 10 right now, with storage spaces and perhaps storeMI and/or raid 5... maybe?

Should be rebuilding all these systems over the next few days, so my backup server has been promoted to main server for the meantime.
