  1. https://pcpartpicker.com/products/internal-hard-drive/#t=0&f=3&sort=price&page=1 take your pick, they're all much of the same these days for 2.5" drives on the lower end of the price list. I'd just pick one that's within your budget, and at least 250gb if you can afford it.
  2. reset cmos again, and when you can boot into bios, change it to recommended settings. reboot saving settings. once it's back to stock settings, check if you can now enter bios without having to reset cmos. if this is the case, save this as a profile in bios. now look for a setting such as "hold down power button on boot for 3+ seconds to enter bios" it can be slightly different according to manufacturer. this is so that if you set your pc to fast boot (or similar), which doesn't have the boot into bios screen. then you can go ahead and make your changes to ram settings etc, and again save that as a profile. this way you won't have to keep playing with it after resetting cmos each time.
  3. +1 for just swapping a cheap ssd into it and reinstalling windows, or even put a linux distro on there, depending on what your sister does with it of course. I've found through the last 10 years or so, most people that are not well versed in computers in general, only use them for internet... in which case a linux distro would be perfect, light for ram usage and disk space in general. I'm still running an old Asus x53e with an intel i7 4c/8t from circa 2010 in dual booting with a cheap, small ssd and it runs perfectly... I use linux when not needed for anything major, and windows if I have to. This is just my backup machine, my main desktops are used most of the time, but still handy for those times when my other machines are busy, or I just need to do some quick online stuff etc. The SSD even is an old samsung 60GB 830 from the same era, any newer ssd will be much faster even a cheap-ish 240gb for approx £15
  4. It depends on the stores. If they're big stores like the aforementioned, then as above. Some smaller stores though operate on a sale or return model with some manufacturers/wholesale stores, which as it sounds means of they don't sell they return them for a rebate on the money they paid. This gives some smaller stores a much better chance at surviving in the retail world.
  5. Have you considered using OMV? This is what I use currently on a microserver with only a dual core celeron and 8GB ram, but is still plenty for many dockers. and is very easy to manage using portainer and/or ssh. Currently I instantiate dockers using ssh with docker CLI. I keep a text file with my settings for it updated onto it, makes it easier IMO to make changes when needed, or to edit a docker cli before installing. Once installed I usually manage the basics with portainer, like turning on/off, duplicating (which re-pulls the latest image without changing anything) and a few others. I'm using ZFS on OMV too. And I have my jdownloader and sabnzbd dockers running through a gluetun docker container, which is set to my vpn and if the container borks, or whatever then it doesn't allow traffic through anymore until it's fixed. There are guides out there for setting up OMV, but it's pretty easy after the first time, and sounds way more complicated than it actually is... I had to re-do everything one time after I decided to move it to it's current hardware, took maybe an hour or 2 at most... but could do it now from memory except the docker cli (which is why i have the text file), and would maybe take 30-40 mins except for the omv install itself. I'm running OMV 5.6 as I had problems with the install on the newer version. But it's super stable, currently been running 61 days, but that's only because I had a power cut.
  6. In my experience it hasn't made any difference, I've had my poco x3 pro for almost exactly 2 years, battery life is still able to support all day usage. In that time it was charged on average once a day with it's 33W charger. I think it''s way more of a problem personally if a person is using it for high CPU use at the same time as charging, or leaving it on charge all night. This is one reason I bought my new phone, as it only needs approx 30 mins to charge from 20-100%, 20% is the lowest I try to get before charging it again. Longevity isn't really a problem for me, as I would normally swap phones every 1-2 years max. I'd much rather enjoy the benefits of high speed charging, in fact I considered getting a worse cpu and getting 120W or higher charging speed. At the moment, I am still using both phones daily, and because of this I am now only having to charge once every 2 days on each phone. And actually on Android 13, the battery use seems substantially better... eg last night I charged my new phone to 100% before going to bed, took it off the charger and only used it once for a 5 min gaming session, went to sleep with it still being 100%... this morning battery still at 100%. On every phone I had previous to this I lost at least 2-3% overnight, sometimes as high as 8-12% with phone in sleep mode, not off completely. Anyway, I thank you for your input, I know it was well meant. I just don't think some of those studies are very accurate, at least not in my experience of having a number of smartphones through the years. In fact my brother is still using the pocophone F1 I had since it came out, after I'd had it for around 18 months and daily charging. And he'd been using it a lot whilst charging for at least 2 years and sometimes several charges per day... and it's still working fine even now as his backup phone that he still uses daily. Admittedly the battery longevity went down a bit as he didn't know he shouldn't really use it for gaming etc whilst charging, but since I told him, he was much better at trying to charge when not in use... and since then the battery is holding steady still. If needs be I'll swap the battery out for him, it's like £10-15 IIRC. But seeing as he has another phone now as his primary, he'll probably just use it 'til it doesn't work anymore.
  7. Hey peeps, just got a new phone, the Poco F5 5G. I can't believe how this thing flies. It automatically added 3GB virtual RAM, but set it to 5GB instead so now is 8+5GB. Did an Antutu run, and it scored 1.23 million, my previous poco x3 scored approx 420K. Has Android 13 (MIUI 14) already. I copied my data from my x3 pro, and other than having to sign into and verify some security apps, like banking, Authy etc was a very smooth process and took approx 30 mins. Charged up from 58% to 100% in around 30 mins too, but that was because I forgot I was bench-marking at the same time, so took a little longer than it should. I paid around £230 from Aliexpress from poco official store, and took around 3.5 weeks, 2 weeks of which it was just sitting in a warehouse. Anyway, still worth it IMO, to save from the official UK store price of £399 and wait a few weeks. Came with a Euro plug, and adaptor, and still hit the 67W charging fine... so I don't care about non UK plug. Dolby Atmos speakers etc too, very nice playback of movies that are atmos capable, had to try them out of course https://www.mi.com/uk/product/poco-f5/
  8. I finally switched permanently to linux (specifically Pop! OS at the minute), it's not perfect by any means, but a lot of the things that drove me mad with win are gone. I still have a "server" running win 11, as I can't get linux to play nice with running some stuff like calibre with a remote HDD for example. But mostly I am now frustration free for daily usage.

  9. Get a SATA to USB adapter, and connect an SSD to it. It shows up the same as other HDD/SSD drives do in explorer for you to drag/drop or however you usually transfer files between devices. I use mine all the time instead of USB flash drives, for one it's much much faster, two it doesn't have the file limits of using FAT drives. I also use it with a USB type c to type a adapter so that I can use it with my phone too. assuming you're in the us https://www.amazon.com/s?k=sata+to+usb+3.0+adapter&crid=DDXMFCZ2YFRF&sprefix=sata+to+usb%2Caps%2C182& hope that helps
  10. If I ever get no response from several webgui, or all of them, then I know it's either my server went down for some reason, and didn't start the dockers when it re-upped, or that it's not on at all. First thing I would do is just try logging into portainer or whichever manager you're using to check the dockers... if you can't log into portainer, or indeed your server at all, then just restart the server. Then again try logging into the docker manager... this usually get's things going again, and then all I have to do is start another few docker containers that require another networked docker to be able to start, for instance sabnzbd and gluetun. If that doesn't solve your issues, then you might be able to log directly into your server and find out the problem, likely that the network address changed if not configured static or something else trivial, and fix it there. I haven't used unraid in some time, so can't help specific issues... maybe your friend that set it up can help? I keep a text file with my docker configs info on it, so that if the worst were to happen, I can just ssh into the system and run the docker commands to set them up again. I also keep backups of my "arr" settings, so that I can recover pretty quickly from major errors... well so far anyway. If you don't have backups of the docker run scripts, you can easily just go to dockerhub and search for the image you want eg radarr, and find the docker run script docker run -d \ --name=radarr \ -e PUID=1000 \ -e PGID=1000 \ -e TZ=Etc/UTC \ -p 7878:7878 \ -v /path/to/data:/config \ -v /path/to/movies:/movies `#optional` \ -v /path/to/downloadclient-downloads:/downloads `#optional` \ --restart unless-stopped \ lscr.io/linuxserver/radarr:latest then all you need to do is change the paths and timezone for example. I'm no expert by any means, but if I can help I will... again not using unraid though, so might not be able.
  11. Yeah, there's nothing wrong with it... you may get overheating troubles, especially in your part of the world if you don't have aircon, but you can add a better cooler on later if you need it.
  12. Couple of small changes, but better 3600Mhz RGB ram 1TB NVME instead of 500GB https://au.pcpartpicker.com/list/BMfWW4
  13. Wow, that is a serious lack of information for someone to be able to help you. You might want to consider listing the new motherboard/cpu and any other parts at the very least.
  14. I've recently switched over to OMV on a low power server with only 2 cores (microserver gen 8), and have even added in a fair amount of dockers without it breaking a sweat at all, even doing duty as my main media server now and able to server 4k HEVC with ease. I'm pleasantly surprised by the capabilities of these relatively old servers.
  15. yay! got my new (to me) 6100T from ebay. Time to replace the 6700K in one of my windows servers (not server OS) to reduce the power draw a fair amount.

      Kilrah

Probably not going to make a big difference, even the K CPU will draw almost nothing when idle if configured right. Could also have power-limited it if efficiency is key.

  16. She wasn't behind the wheel though was she? to me it looks like the passenger that's been caught, so why would she get a fine anyway? passengers aren't subject to cell phone restrictions are they?
  17. I got fed up with the material mouse mats as they were too finicky to try and keep clean. I instead purchased a leather writing pad for way less than a decent mouse pad, and wipes clean very easily, the mouse is smoother now too. I stuck it to my desk after testing, with some CA glue... I'll probably have to replace the entire desktop when this pad wears out eventually, but think that'll be very far in the future considering it still looks brand new after 6+ months usage. I had to cut it down to size a little (by about 10cm) as it was too wide for my setup, but was very easy using a craft knife and a straight edge, then rounded off the corners a bit to match the front edge. Cost me £14 approx
  18. I put some new wheels on my chair yesterday, went with the rollerblade style wheels. Man these are good, hardly any noise now, sit about an inch higher, and they are very robust.... not even mentioning the fact that the action is now so smooth compared to my old ones I have to watch how much i push now, or I could go flying.

At the time of buying I got £8 off of these making them just under £12 for the set of 5

      Bombastinator

Set of five implies swivel chair (thought it might be wheelchair for a sec)  swivel chair castors are often excessively cheap.  Like no rolling bearings level cheap.  Ox cart level stuff.  Probably anything with actual bearings is going to be an improvement.

  19. ON the windows install options, can't you just delete all the partitions on that drive and select it as the OS drive after that? That's all I ever do, have never had to use a separate partitioning tool etc.

    Wi-Fi

You see that blue wifi button at the bottom left, click that it turns it off.
  21. For utilization it should be an easy fix. type in system configuration, go to the [boot] tab, and choose [advanced setup], check the box marked [max memory], if it's already checked, uncheck and re-check it. hit apply, then OK... and you should get notice to reboot IIRC, if not manually reboot and should be fixed now. For the speed, have you tried setting it manually to the desired speed? also, it may need more voltage... but can't advise on that side of it as I'm not running AMD systems at the moment and can't remember.
  22. At this point I'd be looking at the power outlet and surge protector at least. Try different surge protector and different outlet.
  23. The WD SN770 is usually a pretty good buy, I can usually see it for sale for approx £144 for the 2TB or sometimes less. In testing I usually get around 5GB/s read and approx 4GB/s write speeds on my 512GB drive. It's not the fastest drive there is, but it's also not the most expensive, and I think it hits the right area for me between performance and cost.
