LOL - has some interesting moments during the weekend.

  1. Managed to drop the Ryzen 1700 out of the socket somehow even though it was "locked" at the time... bending a pin in the process. Luckily it wasn't that bad and got it back to how it should be with the help of some needle point tweezers. Ran out of TIM twice, had less than I thought of my IC diamond and Noctua pastes, luckily I had some stuff from when I bought other coolers, which will do for now.
  2. I got some "help" from my brother, in that he plugged in the front panel connectors for me.... didn't think about it after that. Then my build wouldn't POST, no fans or anything, so checked PSU/RAM etc, even swapping in another CPU in case the 1700 had been the problem... nothing, so pulled loads of stuff out, including some well managed cable runs. Noticed that the board was working for bios flashback, but still nothing else - and then I "lighbulbed" checked the front panel connectors, and saw they were plugged into the com panel instead. Plugged them in where they should go, and hey presto everything is working ?
  3. Got my server build up and running now also, which is a nice thing again, now my desktop only is on for when I need it. decided on windows for OS, and imported my array into storage spaces, so no messing about with transferring needed :D - I have it hooked up to my UPS, with also my router/3 switches/mesh - and between them only consuming around 78 watts. This is with 4x 4TB HDDs and an M.2 SATA drive for OS.
  4. Main PC build is set to stock settings again at the moment, deciding whether I even need an OC right now... plus having to get used to the MSI interface again, not a big fan of it to be honest.... and OC isn't as good, needing more voltage than on my Asrock b350 mobo in initial testing of it. But it's all SSD now with my 970 evo and mx500... deciding if I even need any HDD storage other than USB for backups.
