  1. Pew pew! Screenshot loading a 149gig image, to look at what was inside of it. Finally could tax this m.2 drive doing something .... If its not the loading drive being a limiter, its the nic (even at 10gig), ...if its not the nic its the small file size load latency. I should have documented my new nas build from last month.... Still need 2 more 14tb drives but they went up in price by $100 ... thanks pandemic. Tax man: Sabrent 2TB Rocket 4 Plus NVMe 4.0 Gen4 PCIe M.2 SSD SB-RKT4P-2TB
  2. What was your end solution that you went with when you discounted the TVs? Also one of the main issues I saw with the 43" monitors was the really bad ghosting in all of the reviews I watched (even for the gaming monitors).
  3. Ok the HDMI refresh limitation is a great talking point. Thank you for that. So I would be looking at 60hz when attached to my computer, and if I ever repurposed this, then I could use the higher refresh. That is good to know and makes me think what options there are on the low end (still having atleast 120hz+ refresh though, just to have it). Also I am not doubting a lot of my issues are from the TV being older, and is good because I know what bad looks like and hopefully go up from there. Any thoughts on the $200-500 mark?
  4. For $300-400 this is absolutely why I made this post. If I get replies agreeing, and hopefully models of 43" TV's that people have or know for a fact don't ghost, it really just makes sense. For the price being 1/2 or 1/3 the price of a computer monitor, for what I am going to use it for, it is surely I would like to hear a lot of reviews from people that actually use this setup for how I am going to use it (or as their primary screen, like you are, but that wouldn't be my main purpose, right now, since I sometimes will play a FPS, here and there). **edit 30minutes after posting the above** OR am I looking at this all wrong. Should I spend $800-$1400ish and get a real nice TV that is 43"-49" and have it perform great? Monitors are out of my knowledge space, but at this size screen, I do not want to get something I don't like from the start (which is the true driver of this post).
  5. New change: One of the changes to my desk setup is the addition of a 40" old TV that I replaced my side 23" monitor with. Why? Well, I never used the TV to begin with, and I wanted to get real life feedback that would hopefully help me when buying my next monitor (to put next to the left of my current, in place of the tv I am testing with). Let me take a step back: I currently have a ASUS ROG PG348Q 34" 3440x1440 as my main monitor - https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01C83BE6U - When purchasing it, I paid around $1300 (years ago) and thought this was going to be a huge monitor, would give me plenty of room, and I would put one of my old three 23" monitors to the left of it as a second monitor. Yes it was overall nicer then my old monitor setup (the three 23"s), was 2k, faster refresh, butttttt it really is only the size of one and a half 23" monitors put together. That is it (cut a 23" in half and put it next to another 23" and that is the total size). Yes it is a 34" monitor but HEIGHT wise, it is darn near the same as monitors for the past 6 years. This is my main issue. If the monitor WAS NOT wide screen, I would have a lot more room to move my scattered windows around, as it would be another half foot vertical. I am kicking myself for not getting three 27s instead or a NON widescreen 32". The issues learned with the TV (this is an old tv - for temp testing purpose, i knew that when going into this, and I wanted to test having that size screen next to me): 1.) huge ghosting amount 2.) going from a 2k screen and dragging onto a 40" 1080p I had to keep making the windows a lot smaller prior to dragging (not so much of an issue after a while) 3.) blurry txt and video The awesomeness of having a 40" display: 1.) make the background black and if you don't maximize the windows you can make the window sizes smaller, so its one sheet of movable side space that you are only seeing with your peripheral vision. 2.) moving back 10feet and watching a youtube video , while doing something else in the room, is awesome 3.) you can tile multiple windows at the same time, having them open and viewable at the same time Overall: I hated it at first but now know that I want a 4k version that doesn't ghost and is the same size as tested with. It will always be my "sketch" board, to the left of my main screen, and not used for gaming. I have been looking up the 43"s but ghosting is a major issue. I stepped my search down to the 32"s but honestly I do not know if that will be big enough for me to keep moving things around and watching videos from a distance (as this was a huge advantage I learned with testing with this old 40" tv). Help: With TV prices dropping so low, does it even make sense trying to keep looking only at monitors still? The screen is going to be around 3 feet from my face, will not be my main monitor, and both ghosting and clarity are important to me. When it comes to cost, this is where it gets interesting. If there is something darn near good, at a fraction of the price, I will HIGHLY consider. But on the flip side, I am also ok with spending around the $1k mark on something great. BUT - I rather spend $300-500 on something decent then $1k-$1400 and still get something just decent. What to do? I know this post is long but I am betting there are multiple people in this scenario (now that so many people are working from home) so i wanted to give my feedback (as I was thinking about multiple other scenarios till I found that this works best for me). Tv suggestions? Monitor suggestions? Am I not seeing better monitors because Covid has them sold out? Help! Also, I don't mind waiting another 2-4months for the holiday sales to start, but 100% want to buy this new monitor then and replace this test TV.
  6. One of the issues I am having is that many of the monitors are 60Hz. Either that or they are free sync compatible. That takes out a big chunk of the selection.
  7. Best 27"+ monitor under $900? - ASUS PG279Q? Greater then 60Hz The PG279Q monitor is 27" (would consider a larger monitor, but not smaller) and 144Hz (no interest in 60Hz, I already have 3, 60Hz monitors). Lastly, I would want the monitor compatible with g-sync (so when I swap out to a gtx, it can be used). https://www.amazon.com/dp/B017EVR2VM What do you think? The above monitor was closer to $700 for Christmas, so I know the price can go down some. I know Asus released information at CES about their new monitors, but do not know how that is going to play into the near term price cuts.
  8. https://www.google.com/search?q=nexus+2016&oq=nexus+2016 ^^ new things are coming out by the week
  9. ^^ thanks -- Can't wait to upgrade. I have had the same monitors for 6years. As of now, the plan is to buy one large monitor and then turn one of my three existing sideways. 3monitors is a pain because you need to look too far right/left when working on things (and I use all 3 for work/fun).
  10. ^^ ahh ok ...good to know. Glad I got rid of the laptop I was talking about though. I was using it for a small project and that was the end of that mess. Come to think of it, I never have seen a smaller desktop keyboard like your asking (now that I know there is a difference between the laptop and desktop ones). Following thread ...
  11. I had a 60% keyboard on this tiny laptop and the amount of spelling mistakes and "thinking" about what I was typing, since the keys are spaced differently, never again would I.
  12. Anybody have the XB321HK (or if anybody has feedback on something that is better)? I just put it on my list, hoping it goes down to around $1k'ish for blackfriday or Christmas, and pick it up then. I feel like its late in the year to buy a monitor, and in a few months there should deff be sales (meaning I'm going to kick myself when I see the price drop in a few months).
