DKL reacted to VixAAT in Designer makes over $99,000 from iPhone icons in a week
A designer has made more than $99,000 or £77,000 for making icons for iPhones in one week.
Traf, the creator, created these icons after seeing multiple images of customised iPhones due to the iOS 14 update.
The icons were boosted in popularity by famous tech youtuber Marques Brownlee (commonly known as MKBHD) linked them in the description of one of his videos.
He sold the icons for $28 or £22.
My thoughts are that if someone popular notices your product and mentions it, it could become a wild sucess.

Well it definitely makes sense when you blab to a few hundreds thousand people about something good. None of the links work so there goes that whole project flushed down the toilet.

Edit: torrent for the project is still operational.

LTT , if you find anything else really cool , please keep it to yourself.

There is some key information missing here.  How does "I helped my friend with a data transfer" trigger that coworker to run to management to tell them about it?

I agree with this guy in the Reddit comments:

You don't get fired from a Top 50 company easily, he did something that was so egregious it was vetted by HR, legal, management, etc and they decided to fire him.

I very much doubt this story. As someone who just did a data transfer between two imacs a few weeks ago, I can personally say that the process for transferring from one imac to another is very easy. If you have a backup in the cloud, you select that option. If you have a timemachine backup, plug in the drive and it goes from there. If you have the other imac on the same wifi, there is a specific option and it does it automatically (like how you can do it with phones and ipads).
There is nothing they could have done that would in any way be some kind of Apple secret or anything that Apple would consider wrong.

My opinion is either some key information was not provided, or the information was falsified or completely made up. Why would helping someone on your own time be considered Conflict of Interest? Especially if the service you are doing is done for free by Apple, it’s not like you are taking a money-making opportunity away from them.

As always, and as cruel as it sounds, we must be extra vigilant when listening to the story of someone who was laid off.

If it was unfair is there an arbitrator he can go to in the US or are there no rules in regard to unfair dismissal.  And if so did Covid prevent that from happening? I understand that covid has prevented a lot of things from happening (e.g you can;t et your learners permit in victoria until next year even thought he application and administration can be done online).

I sense a class-action lawsuit... Also, students could just install the app on a burner phone ( @Arika S ), leaving it running 24/7 within the boundaries of the school. Still wrong to force the students to go through such measures, but, it is an option until the University realizes it will be facing some serious legal action.

If the goal was to convince US and EU lawmakers that you are not, in fact, running a software monopoly in a similarly aggressive fashion if not more so than Microsoft did in the past, this was not the statement to release.

The arrogance in that statement is sickening. The free apps add value to the iphone as if you removed all free apps from the app store much less people will buy iphones. Also this wouldn't be as much of a problem if there was a way to sideload apps or companies are allowed to develop their own app stores for iphones but since the apple app store is the only way to get an app without doing something like jailbreaking which apple would not recommend then they have a duty to have more fair terms or face antitrust.

DKL reacted to mr moose in Microsoft changes the Insider program of Windows 10
I didn't miss it.    The person I quoted made a comment that shows an observation from within a specific environment that highlights specific issues, I am just saying if we move outside of that environment and consider the whole the number of issues e.i windows does not appear have more broken updates than any of the other major OS like ios, android or Mac os.

So the question of does the insider program work,  obviously it doesn't work as well as they'd like or they wouldn't restructure it, but just because some people have problems with it doesn't mean the whole thing is a failure and updates are always broken.

Afaik they indeed don't really test as they used to.
They now hope enough people use insider builds to provide them feedback and most\all of their in-house QA is gone with windows 10.

But, as with every single update for the last i think 2 years now, there are always big problems and issues.
It's no longer thinking "will it be stable" but more a case of "what's broken this time?" because there's always something.

My family is all Apple. I grew up with Apple and my family love Apple for their ecosystem while my mother is not able to trust anything non-Apple yet doesn't have the income required to afford Apple. It's to the point where taking care of my mother was buying her an iPad with accessories so she wouldn't have to worry about trying to buy an Apple laptop or tablet herself. I fear that otherwise she would have gone in debt so she could have a device her older eyes could see. (She used only an iPhone SE and occasionally a ~2006 Macbook prior)
This was all despite cheaper alternatives being out there, that could have provided her similar experiences if not better. She needed something Apple. When it gets people to the point where they mentally block out all other options as even being potentially viable alternatives, yes, the ecosystem most certainly does have negative impacts on some people. Not all, but some...
