  1. Budget (including currency): under $500 CAD but open to suggestions Country: Canada Games, programs or workloads that it will be used for: Data Science, light gaming (rocket league, CS, Dota, Brawlhalla, etc.) Other details Current specs: Ryzen 7 2700 GTX 1070 B450M Pro4 32 GB RAM (8x4) EVGA 650w 80+ Gold I’m looking to get into Data Science where I work with AI/ML. The RTX Cards have Tensor Cores which I think might be beneficial for when I explore Deep Learning. I also do a bit of light gaming on the side (can’t really find a lot of time these days) just 1080p 144hz with a secondary monitor just running at 1080p 60hz. Which GPU should I buy? I’m thinking of upgrading my CPU later down the line to the Ryzen 7 5800X3D so I don’t want a GPU that will bottleneck that. Any suggestions?
  2. I recently bought a Razer Phone 2 and realized that the charger only outputs at 2A. I still have my OnePlus 3T charger that charges at 4A. Will it have any long-term issues if I use that charger? I am unsure if my current phone is built for charging that fast. Thanks.
  3. @w1nger1 Yup, I used DDU several times already. Didn't fix it. @KarathKasun I just checked GPU-Z and the serial bus said x16. I finally did a clean install of windows 10. It didn't work. Graphics card, y u no cooperate!?
  4. @bleedblue @SupaKomputa Unfortunately, I only have one pcie slot on my PC. I cleaned a mild amount of dirt on the slot but it did not solve the problem. @LinuxTek I have the 4gb version – SSC ACX 2.0 Cooling. I disabled the onboard graphics in bios but it did not solve the problem. @KarathKasun I uninstalled all of the Nvidia software and drivers that I have on my PC, restarted, and installed from Nvidia’s website. I checked my BIOS and CSM was already enabled. Both methods did not work. I highly doubt that it is a CPU or RAM problem as they have been working fine over the last three years and they have never given me any problem. I’m thinking it may just be a damaged pcie slot :’(. I will be doing a clean install of windows soon. I’ll keep you guys updated. Any other suggestions? I'm running out of solutions.
  5. I was given a used GTX 960. I don't know if it has previously been overclocked or used for mining. Here is my build: https://ca.pcpartpicker.com/list/gK6wkd When I put in the GTX 960, I experience all sorts of issues. - No display when I restart the PC - MASSIVE frame drops in games; extremely inconsistent. My 750ti performs better than it most of the time. - Freeze/Crash during 3d mark firestrike test - Odd green video on youtube (fixed by disabling hardware acceleration on chrome) - Screen randomly goes black (standby) while PC is still on However, when I put it into my brother's rig, EVERYTHING WORKS FINE! Here is my brother's rig: https://ca.pcpartpicker.com/list/brHjq4 I've already tried plenty of things: - Buying a new PSU (EVGA G2 650W) - Updating Motherboard BIOS - Updating GPU Drivers - Updating GPU BIOS - Underclocking using MSI Afterburner, Increasing gpu fan speed So it's not heating up, it's receiving enough power, it's not clogged with dust, all the bios/drivers are up to date. What could the problem be?
  6. I am currently dual booting a 128GB SSD with Ubuntu and a 1TB HDD with Windows 10. So far, I've used up 423GB of the HDD with Steam taking up 303GB and Non-steam games taking up ~20-30GB. I don't need Ubuntu anymore. I just want to boot Win10 from the SSD and use the HDD for game storage. Here is my plan: 1. Uninstall all games (Steam + Non-Steam) leaving the HDD with only ~95GB used space 2. Format the SSD 3. Clone the HDD onto the SSD 4. Format the HDD 5. Extend the Windows partition onto the HDD 6. Install Steam and other games on the HDD 7. Remove Grub Bootloader What do you guys think? Also, is there a specific program you guys would recommend?
  7. I've been using www.gsmarena.com for quite a while now. However, I would like to know if there is a good website out there that lists phones by their price. Examples: www.logicalincrements.com (for PCs) www.lappylist.com (for Laptops) *insert website here* (for Phones) Thanks in advance! JayZero
  8. Hello linustechtips, I am currently a student studying computer science. I bring this laptop with me to school. It currently has Windows 10 and I would like to install Ubuntu on it. However, it only has 30GB of storage available. I have a 15GB micro-SD card attached to it. Here is my plan: 30GB Internal Storage - 28GB Root Partition - 2GB Swap Partition 15GB Micro-SD Card - 15GB Home Partition Could someone please verify if this is a good plan? Would this even work if I put any of the partitions on the Micro-SD card? Thanks, JayZero
  9. My little brother somehow got his steam account hacked. The hacker deleted all of his friends and changed both the account's email and phone number. He told me he did not engage into any suspicion steam chats. This is my first time contacting steam support. Can someone please give me some steps to get in contact with steam? Is there anything I should know beforehand? How can we provide proof that we are the rightful owners of the account? Any advice would help. Thanks.
  10. I was playing Shadow of Mordor today and I noticed that my 750ti only used about 1.7GB/2GB VRAM. I was able to keep the framerates within 60-80 FPS with the CPU at 80-90% usage and the GPU at a consistent 99% usage. I feel like the extra 300MB VRAM should be able to give me a little more headroom to beef up the graphics. However, the frames drop whenever I turn the settings up a bit (I'm guessing it's because my GPU usage is already at 99%). Should the VRAM always be full in order to achieve full optimization? If so, what other setting could I change to improve performance (or graphics) in this game? Thanks in advance!
  11. Alright. I'll give it another shot. Thanks for the help appreciate it.
  12. You may call me an idiot for not being thorough. I actually tried blocking only the empty PCIe slots for the first few days. Some of the dust still came in (though they accumulated at a very slow rate). After that, I decided to block the GPU exhaust as well. At that point, almost no dust came in. When you asked me which ones I were blocking off, I just looked at my PC and saw that both my PCIe slots and GPU exhaust were blocked so I replied saying that I blocked both. I do understand what you are telling me though. I understand that the dust can come in from the empty PCIe slots (which is why I blocked those). I also understand that the GPU fan is always on and that air is always coming out of it. However, it seems that more air is coming in through the GPU rather than exiting it. I just didn't know how to approach the problem so I asked here. I have a potential solution now to put on filters as you (and many others) have suggested.
  13. That's actually a pretty good idea. I'll look around to see if I can find a filter of some sort. Thanks! I blocked both the GPU exhaust and the meshing from empty PCIe slots.
  14. It's slowly getting cold. Even with the strip of paper on, my GPU does not go beyond 65c on the games I play. I still have to try this out over the summer though. This was in my original post. Some air enters the PC through the GPU's exhaust because the back of my PC is touching a wall. The PC's main exhaust fan hits the wall ... air that hits wall bounces and enters PC via GPU's exhaust.
  15. Here are my specs. I believe I have a blower style GPU. Despite positive airflow and filtered intakes, my PC somehow still manages to accumulate dust inside my SPEC-01. The back of my PC is right against a wall (I can't move it elsewhere). I assumed the dust was formed from my main exhaust fan pushing air onto the wall, then the air that hits the wall bounces and enters the system via the GPU exhaust. I performed a test for a couple weeks where I block off the GPU's exhaust with a thin strip of paper. Lo and behold, there were almost no dust within the case. Would it be safe to keep the strip of paper there? Are there any other solutions? Thanks, JayZero
