There we go! Thanks. I was looking directly for C:\Windows\Color

I know this thread's been dead for a while, but I just wanted to give an update.

I'm meeting up with my friend tomorrow to give him my old monitor. I hooked it up to give it a cleaning before giving it to him.

    Holy shit.

I don't even know how I did that before. Without exaggeration, I started to feel nauseous and everything felt like it was lagging.

I legitimately didn't notice a single difference the first time I went from 60 to 144, but going 144 to 60 is seeeeriously noticeable.

Even just everyday things like desktop browsing felt worse. It felt like my mouse was lagging behind my movements in a way that made me question if it was even working properly.

They should just make 60hz monitors illegal from hereon out.

I'm unsure. I recently upgraded to the AOC G2460PF (basically the same monitor you're looking at but freesync enabled. I'm using a 980ti so the freesync feature is irrelevant, making our monitors basically identical) and I've not noticed any Youtube or video watching abnormalities. I get what you're saying, 25, 30 fps, and 60fps video would not divide evenly into 144hz (24hz does though, which is what a lot of stuff is shot in, so no worries there especially for movies) therefore we should experience some kind of visual tearing, but for one reason or another that doesn't appear to be the case in my experience. Visual media looks the same as it did on my Asus VX228H (60hz 1080p). This is probably a result of the innate motion blur captured by cameras, but that is speculation on my part. Maybe the monitor is smart adapting for all I know.

Yes. The drop from 60fps to 50fps can be noticed if you're paying attention and sensitive to the issue, but the drop from 144fps to 50fps is extremely like "woah what the actual shit" kind of noticed haha.

visual media should still look the same (as mentioned above) and dips to a low framerate would feel less impactful, and would happen less often, with a lower refresh rate monitor.

You can always tell your 144hz monitor to simply run at a lower refresh rate if you're paranoid about certain games or experiences.

No, I fully Agree - Ryzen is a good cpu on all accounts. I'm just saying the way he goes about it, bashing intel at every opportunity even if it means creating your own irrelevant conversation, is very offputting. Luckily LTT forums has an ignore feature, whereas the old Tek Syndicate forums didn't.

I actually had a Ryzen setup, but I ended up having to RMA it. I would have liked it to work, I conceptually like the idea of 8 cores in the hopes that the future will provide more multi core support for games, but I just couldn't risk missing out on my return period.

At the risk of joining you up on the crucifix, I actually 100% feel the same. Z170 had support up to z270, and that's been the normal for as far back as I can remember. It got 2 gens just like every other board. I don't really feel like intel are screwing anyone over, but since intel obviously rushed the release date of z370 to counter Ryzen, people feel more screwed because it was released so soon afterwards. I'm assuming intel had originally planned on releasing z370 later in 2018, but with it being so close after z270 it creates a sense of betrayal.

That same train of thought is exactly why I would believe z370 will support Cannon lake, or whatever chip is released afterwards. I expect it to at least support 2 gens, but having official information or other sources would give me some comfort.

I saw it become very dark in a video. Its not realeased yet but if you dont fix the problem for a while these will be an option. They work on lots of fans.

Yeah, I know they're the same chip, just slightly better binned. It's that slightly better binning factor that made me think I would more than likely get similar results to those 3.9-4ghz 1700's. But you're right, I didn't think about the fact that more people would be likely to post about their 4ghz milestone as opposed to the average chips.

It is for one core, but typically matching all cores for that single core boost has been universally obtainable with every chip I've had, with a little wiggle room past that - so I guess I was just hoping for this to match previous experience.

Oh well. It's not a huge deal. The performance difference isn't giant, but it would have just been nice to get that 4ghz for my own happiness. Luckily I only paid the price of a 1700 for the x version, I don't think I could ever justify actually paying the price difference for just slightly higher base clocks on an overclockable chip.

If you submit a ticket, we can see about getting those sent out, but to save yourself some hassle, I would highly recommend you not lose them.  They can be very easily lost, I agree, but just keep the glass panels in a safe spot and ensure that you keep an eye on them during building.

I believe the issue has been fixed in software by most manufacturers and software devs, certainly the most popular temp sensing apps now offset to adjust for the issue.

The best advice is if you don't believe the reading your getting then double check in another app, if it was me then I'd triple check it anyway even if it seems believable.

None of that changes the fact that it will take the FX 6300 and perform as it should with room for overclocking. It's a budget build, some people are on a budget. He asked for a $50 motherboard, all of you are giving him $80+ motherboards for absolutely no reason... you're trying to get him to spend $30 to $40 more so he can buy a motherboard that will do absolutely the same, which is taking in that FX 6300 and 270 and letting him game.
