DedricWashington reacted to genexis_x in What changes would you make to my build?
Go for Ryzen 5, i5 almost trash now

Don't get EVGA NEX, it's mediocre, change it to a better one like Corsair CX-M grey or Seasonic S12II

    PCPartpicker please, thanks.

Motherboard and CPU not compatible, you want Z97 for 4790k and DDR3 with Z97
    And that's really it.

the Cpu is on the lga1150 socket, but the mobo is 1151, not sure if they are backwards compatable. idk all that much about intel, so thats an issue.
the psu should be fine for a 980ti.

The CPU is not compatible with the motherboard as they use a different socket. The mobo uses socket 1151 and the CPU requires socket 1150. The GPU will only fit inside that case if you remove the HDD cage, as the GPU's lenght is 309mm and the case only has 294mm with the cage, or up to 428mm without it. The power supply is a great choice. The ram and the mobo are compatible and everything will fit inside the case you chose if you remove the HDD cage. If you plan on adding more HDD's later, I would suggest another GPU that's not as massive as the one you chose. You could save a little more money by switching the mobo and ram as DDR4 is still fairly new and so is the Z170 chipset. I suggest a 1600 MHz and higher DDR3 with a Z97 chipset or at least an H81.

plus it makes it easier for us to check out your rig and make suggestions on what to change

Why?  The XFX XTR units are brilliant value for money when you consider their very high build quality.  Tier 1 and all.

I did not see many pc build'S with XFX power supplies in my life, in the PSU departement i would rather give caution about a product than do say its ok and fry his compunents, if you are sure they are good, well go for it! ^^

XFX units are built by Seasonic.  At least, the ones I would actually recommend are, they have quite a few.  XFX XTR = Super awesome and great, XFX TS = A little less awesome but still pretty great.  But I would say, they are better than the Seasonic branded versions, as they have some nice bells and whistles at not really an increased price.

Never trust (or distrust in this case) a brand.

Ok thanks for the info! ill look into that brand then! I did not think they were that good, since i know that Seasonic is a trusted brand in the PSU world ^^

btw What res are going to be playing on?

if it's 1080p a 980ti would be a waste since All the games out now can't properly saturate the 980ti's capabilities at 1080p even at 144hz.

a 980/970 would be a much better fit if you're going for 120+Hz go with a 980, the extra cahs you save can help you buy something else.

    Follow your topics!
Use PCPartpicker and it'll tell you what will work with what. Everything looks good except for CPU and motherboard. You need to get an LGA 1150 board or a LGA 1151 CPU. If you're not going to overclock get an H series motherboard and a non-K CPU. It'll really save you some money. If you're not sure about what parts work with what, I have a part compatibility guide linked in my signature
