Of course it's worth it, unless you'd rather have cash than performance. You're not upgrading a 2080 to 2080ti with just 400 AUD, unless you compare with overpriced 2080.

I think you are the one who should answer the question. If you can afford the price difference and you are like me, who is playing games for no less than 2 hours a day, why not?

Taking into account your resolution, yes, there is going to be an upgrade. Is it worth 280 USD? That is something you should consider yourself but taking into account the refresh ratio and resolution of your monitor, I am sure you will enjoy the upgrade.

If you plan on upgrading to Zen 2 I would go ahead and just a mobo, RAM and CPU. The 2600 I added is a little more than some other options but it'll probably sell the easiest as well.. And you might even like it and not need to upgrade right away (I love mine). I chose the Taichi motherboard because it's one of the best and cheaper than the Asus and Gigabyte alternatives I would consider safe for Zen 2. You could get a cheaper one if you wanted to save a little more but I would stick with X470 over B450 for upgrades.

im really curious where statements like "jet fighter pilots cant discern 240hz" comes from. Because as far as i know nobody has ever taken a bunch of jet fighter pilots and made them compare 144hz to 240hz. This sounds like a statement you have pulled from a place the sun doesn't shine

i mean, our eyes don't see in frames per second at all. I really haven't seen many people at all who say that there isn't a noticeable difference between 60 and 100+ hz, even just in windows moving around program windows. This is more of a "when do the diminishing returns based on how sensitive your eyes to those increases in smoothness come in" question.

Hey thanks for the really comprehensive response. Yeah you're definitely right. the two main sexy ultrawides that i can see are the X34P (120hz with overclocking, some users report flickering and other problems at this level based on temps) at $1400 AUD and the Alienware monitor that shares the same panel which can be had in australia for like $2000.

the Acer Predator XB271HU IPS goes for $889 here with 144hz, IPS, G-sync and an overclock to 165hz. i think i will have to go for this baby just considering the sheer staggering price difference between the $2000 alienware, the $1400 x34p, and the $889 predator XB. I might be convinced to get the x34p but god damn thats a pricy monitor considering i already have an ultrawide but i don't have a 165hz monitor

thanks for the help the price discussion really cleared it up for me. a lot of the great features i really want come waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay cheaper than i thought on standard 16:9

OttoVonBismarck reacted to corrado33 in Does BCLK do anything positive besides the negative of higher temps
Base clock is just that.... the base clock. Most of the other frequencies around the board are based on that.

PCIe frequency, CPU frequency, memory frequency, etc. Increasing BCLK without decreasing other things (like PCIe frequency and memory frequency) will likely cause instability extremely quickly.

Increasing BCLK is how we overclocked before the multipliers were available.

It's also how you overclock non-unlocked chips.

The 8700K is 8% faster than the 2700x. Personally, not a big enough difference for me to pay that much for the Intel chip, especially when the 2700x has more cores.

    OttoVonBismarck got a reaction from i_build_nanosuits in i5 9600k - Is the 6core / 6 thread a real drawback?
CPUs seem to improve very slowly and you get to skip quite a few generations before needing to upgrade. So i'm guessing if i wanted to sit on this one for many years to get max value out of it, thats where the thread problem will really begin to bite me?

the RTX 2080 TI is not however meant to compete with the 1080TI. the RTX 2080TI is sitting in its own insane price bracket... i think its the RTX 2080 and the 1080TI that hold equivalent slots and they're really neck and neck as far as cards go. the RTX 2080 TI has some stupid pricing though

    Correct

Not at the moment. Maybe in 2-3 years, but even then, meh most likely.

Not necessarily. I'm sure you've heard how bad Coffee lake's thermal interface material (TIM) is. Temps are meh.

Not bad enough to really notice, especially at high resolutions

A re-mount and new thermal paste might help some with temps.

yes, 1440p UW you can do 100Hz+ no problem, I have one and a 1080 TI.

Like I said earlier, you don't need to add RAM unless you actually run out of it. Just the fact of having more won't increase performance, unless you're using more than 8GB. Youre more than welcome to buy more, I don't care, I'm just making the distinction.

I'd say just throw a GPU in and go from there (and the cooler stuff I mentioned). You can always buy more RAM later, you can get another SSD, you can blah blah blah. I never really see the point of doing a full rebuild. Just upgrade parts as you need. I got a 1080 Ti 2 months ago, then last week I got an 8700K. I would have liked to do a full rebuild with a new case and a custom loop, but I don't feel like spending that money rn lol. Besides, what I have works. Why try to fix it
