Zeals got a reaction from da na in Experiences with non-techies
Here are some of the oddest questions I've heard while at work, which I'm assuming are non-tech due to the nature of their questions.
"The i5 4670 CPU, How much RAM does it have?"
"Can I get the build with 8 GB of RAM also is it possible to downgrade the OS to 32 bit?"
"For these custom builds can I get one that has the ASUS Crosshair V Formula and an Intel i7?"
And the final one which lead to many face palms.
Customer: "I bought these parts from you guys and I put it together but for some reason every time I try to turn it on it shuts down after a few second"
Me: "Okay just put it over on this bench here and I'll take a look and see whether or not we can identify and fix the issue..."
*Opens Case*
Me: "Where's the CPU Heatsink?"
Customer: "Heatsink?"
Me: "The stock cooler that shipped with your CPU, it has a black fan and some aluminium fins"
Customer: "Oh that, I threw that into the trash because my friend told me Intel stock coolers are crud and I shouldn't use them"
Me: "......................................."

For Valley yes, but for the games I play and Heaven it works perfectly fine or it's my weird Northbridge Windows 8 problem.Edit: You sure a GTX670 is slower than a HD7870? Because wasn't the 7870 meant to be 660/660 Ti level?

Zeals got a reaction from G9x001 in Heading back to console gaming
Well I have both consoles and a gaming PC. I'm predominately a PC gamer, but I do own a console due to a terrible thing known as exclusives. But anyway onto PC vs Console.
The initial setup cost of a console is cheaper than a PC, as you pointed out it's $600 console vs $1,500 desktop, even if you build it yourself with equivalent parts you'll be look at around $1,400. So yes initial setup cost is a lot lower for a console. But you do get something for the extra money you pay, first off you can do a lot more with a PC than a console, secondly a PC will be capable of running consoles at a lot higher settings than the console can hope to achieve in this case. There is no competition when it comes to graphical fidelity, assuming the game isn't a terrible port or just all round terribly developed all-round *cough* AC: Unity *cough*. That means you'll get better graphics with the PC.
If you were to drop the performance on the PC to one that's closer to the console the price disparity will be smaller, you'll be looking at a $800 system. At this point you can change the settings and run a game to look basically the same a console. However there are some drawbacks, first off with consoles because you're sitting further back, the disparity between graphics isn't as obvious, so you'll notice the lower graphics on a budget PC more, although you can always plug your PC into your TV and use it like a console if you wanted. The other thing is that because consoles have set hardware, overtime developers will get better at optimising their games since they don't need something like DirectX to act as an intermediary, so developers get more out of the hardware, having said that due to physics and technological limitations it can't ever reach the point where it overtakes the $1,500 PC. It will probably get closer to a $1,000 PC before they hit a hardware wall.
But that's just the initial costs, lets think long-term. A game that's available on multiple platforms, say Dragon Age: Inquisition from JB Hi-Fi (because screw you EB) is $79. Same game from JB Hi-Fi for PC, $69 that's a $10 saving. If we assume you went the $1,500 significantly better graphics route, that means you need to buy ~90 games to make your money back; ignoring the time value of money. But if you were to go on the many online distribution, which will be $59, so a $20 saving, reducing the number of games you need to buy to ~45. This is of course ignoring the existence of Steam Sales, aka when Gaben burns a hole through your wallet day, which normally results in even bigger savings; for example Bioshock Infinite $7.50 on Steam, $49 at JB. $40 saving. So while the initial investment of a PC is higher than a console, in the long-term you may end up saving money depending on how many games you buy.
Obviously there is the exclusives argument, hence why I also own a console, but game time wise, I've spent a lot more time on PC exclusives; especially recently with games like DotA 2 which also happen to be free to play. So my argument is the assertion that PC gaming is too expensive and everyone should play consoles is misleading.

You seemed to have fixed the problem good sir. Although I had to use the driver straight from Qualcomm not the one on the ASRock site to fix it.

Update driver to latest, from website, for this;
Qualcomm® Atheros® Killer™ E2200 Series Gigabit LAN
Most likely the culprit, as it has been causing memory leaks on several occasions.

Zeals got a reaction from .daviD in Bad performance AMD R9 290 ?
The GPU usage less than 50% isn't really an issue, but it depends on the game. Also my advice regarding the situation is to set a user defined automatic fan speed profile to stop the VRMs from overheating since it appears to be a VRM overheating issue.

Zeals got a reaction from eyeballer in Should I get a gaming mouse
Just get a mouse that is comfortable. Sensors and CPI are pretty much the same for the most part since almost all mice use Avago sensors and not many people actually need a 8200 CPI sensor tbh. Although a forward and back button on a mouse is great, but you don't need a 'gaming' mouse to get it.
The important questions you should ask yourself are. How do you like to hold your mouse? Do you have large or small hands? Do you prefer large or small mice? Do you want a heavy or light mouse? How buttons do you realistically need and are going to use, (if you don't know I just recommend going for a 5 button mouse; left click, right click, scroll wheel, forward and back buttons)? What is my budget?
Also having a decent mousepad does enhance the experience of a mouse. Also if you're using a 1080p screen I would personally recommend going for a mouse with 1600 CPI or higher, but this also depends on your grip style and how you prefer to move your mouse. Personally I use 8200 CPI, but 99% of people think that is uncontrollable.
EDIT: Answer those questions and we can give you some decent recommendations.
