  1. Just for some closure on this, I went with the R9 380 and it has been awesome so far. Couldn't play Dying Light on the old setup either, so good times all around.
  2. From what I've seen, the R9 380 seems to be the better performer, at the cost of running a little hotter. I think that is an acceptable trade off, and I think my system's airflow is good enough to bleed most of the heat off. I've found a copy hovering around the $180 - $200 range, I think that's good. Anyone agree?
  3. AMD Phenom II X6 1090T Not the best, especially now. But I don't think that is my bottleneck right now.
  4. Hey everyone! Quick question today. Was freaking out earlier today because I forgot to realize that my current system might not be ready for Fallout 4, mainly the graphics card. I currently have two radeon hd 5870's, and I don't think that is up to snuff now. I don't have too much money right now, but I think I can handle $200 or less. I saw a few nvidia gtx 960's for about $170. Can anyone think of a better bang for your buck or is that about the best I can do. Thanks! EDIT: Just noticed I have a newegg 10% code, helps a bit too with price.
  5. Headset looks really awesome, kinda digging the mousepad as well. Even if you don't win, probably worth a look to go check out Feenix stuff anyways.
  6. I'm sure everyone has seen this at least once, but it's a good re-read. http://www.hacoder.com/2015/10/is-your-son-a-computer-hacker/
  7. These two were the original plan, open to thoughts about changes though. CPU: Intel Core i7-6700K 4.0GHz Quad-Core Processor PSU: Corsair 850W 80+ Platinum Certified Fully-Modular ATX Power Supply
  8. Wow, sorry everyone. Didn't mean to spark a huge debate over the subject. I have 1080p monitors at the moment, but when I get some more cash on hand after the build, I'd like to trade them out for something better, 2k or higher. Also, if you go with a single 980 TI, you leave the option later for another card to SLI later, if the bugs with it wouldn't be too problematic. Thoughts?
  9. Just a quick question today. I'm looking to build a new gaming pc/art workstation late this year or early next and was wondering if the upgrade to the 980 TI is worth it being twice-ish as much as the 970. Budget-wise it shouldnt be a problem, just want to make sure that it is the best bang for my buck.
  10. Would love to test network performance, what software would you recommend? I will take a look into Plex, thank you.
  11. Hello everyone, I've been having an issue with getting videos to play on my laptop that are stored on my main pc. The main pc is cabled into the router and the laptop is on wifi (duh), but I'm getting stuttering video and sometimes complete drops. The router I have is DB, but the laptop is a bit older and can't connect to the 5GHz band. Is that possibly the problem, or is there a network optimization I'm missing?
  12. I'd say that my most embarrassing gaming moment is that I actually paid money for the Move controller bundle for the PS3, what a joke...
  13. In response to the first thing, I have another one of these monitors right now, the second one is the one I'm fixing right now. I've been looking around for replacements and have found that its going to be about 20 bucks per bulb. There are actually 2 bulbs on the top and 2 on the bottom. So it's going to run about 80 bucks for a full replacement, so that's not too bad. Also, I guess I could hang on to the 3 'good' bulbs and keep them aside as backups, handy since I have identical monitors. Thanks for the input everyone.
  14. Hello everyone, I'm new here to the forums and would like to start things off with a monitor repair question. I have two ASUS VW246H monitors, and had one of them (the older one) go out on me. I spent a little timing researching and tinkering and found out that one of the four backlight bulbs is burnt out. I am currently in the process of ordering a replacement, but was wondering if it's a good idea to order two? Not sure if the one going out was just a fluke, but I'd hate to replace one, only to have another go out a few weeks later. I figured you guys would have some more experience with monitor repairs them me, I'd appreciate any input. Thanks!
