Muffinmanx2's Achievements

  1. This computer is a horse racing statistics database with algorithms. I'm in Vegas, this is nothing illegal. People pay me and my friend for picks, and I am barely making rent. My friend develops the programming, I just plug data. Our external HDD fried a couple of months back, and we haven't had time or money to pick up another 2TB to pick one up. If I don't eat for the rest of the week, I have $36 that isn't allocated to bills. My friend is in the Philippines at the moment for a wedding, usually he takes care of stuff like this; so, the onus is on me to have this up and running by next Monday.
  2. I don't have an external hard drive
  3. Please, God someone help me. My work computer won't boot into Windows. The troubleshooting report says that it's an AppxStaging issue, and I'm a fucking pleb outside of hardware. There are very valuable pieces of information on my hard drive, and I don't have the money to get a new one. That computer is how I make rent, so I desperately need it up and running again. Previous backups aren't working, and I'm at a loss. Help me Obi Wan.
  4. So what processor is going in this? any GPU's? Ryzen is pretty beastly in the core count department, so it matches Intel's quality with quantity. AMD is my choice for content creation platforms. (I am still using the 2-year old Intel rig in my profile)
  5. Lol, yeah. I was just trying to save your boss a little cash on a business rig. I see people build over the top PCs all of the time and only utilize it for programs like Quicken. I'm not here to sell you stuff, I would rather help my fellow forum posters save some money. I guess that makes me an ass
  6. You did not specify what kind of work this was for, so I assumed that it was just standard accounting.
  7. I love my land lord, the reason he won't let me run the cables is because I would have to run them in the top corners, which means a 20 foot ladder to drill into his crown molding. It's the only way the dogs in the house won't chew the cables, or trip someone on the stairs.
  8. What can I expect from a repeater? (as far as stability) and any suggestions on one?
  9. I can't run it down the stairs due to small animals, and a partially disabled guy who lives upstairs. I already made a custom Cat6 cable, and got shot down.
  10. Alright, so my buddies and I rent this house. It is 5 bedrooms, 1 master, 2 baths. I live upstairs in the north western corner of the house, and I'm just out of range for solid internet. I have a Netgear Nighthawk x6 router, that I got a couple of years ago. The house is in the shape of and "L" when you are looking down onto it, with my computer at one end, and the router in the room where both lines of the "L" intersect. I used to live in the room next to the router, which had an ethernet port direct connection, but now I'm just out of range. The landlord won't let me move the modem, or let me run a line down the stairs. My dinky wifi adapter that I'm using at the moment is just good enough to web surf. I can't play a game of Overwatch without losing connection, and downloads take forever. I'm looking for any suggested help that won't permanently alter the house. Thank you. Update: Currently looking for a powerline adapter. The wiring is only 20 years old with no history of significant issues. Came into a new problem while looking at the outlets, there isn't any room. The outlet with the router has two surge protectors. Top socket is powering the router, cable box, TV, and lights. Bottom socket powers the modem, and a signal amplifier for the cable box and modem.
  11. If he was running on an old iMac for this long, I doubt that he needs this much overkill. I agree with the Ryzen suggestion. Oh, Pg 13 of the first manual has your answer, and nobody needs 64 Gb of Ram for office work.
  12. I would really appreciate this little computer, because I intend to give something similar to my grandmother for Christmas, and would like to save some money. She is running off of an old Dell, and is in desperate need of an upgrade. Nothing crazy, but she can barely run Yahoo mail. Her computer is so old that when her house was broken into six years ago, the robbers stole everything in that room except her computer. Win or lose, I'm still getting her a new computer, so no big deal either way.
  13. I can't say that I have too much experience with Feenix products. I saw their products at CES 2014 and was really interested, but could not remember the name of the company after the show. I don't remember the headphones, but they are probably the one thing that I would buy (if I had the money). The mousepad seems way to large for my compact, corner desk. I like the specs on the mouse, but I have an M65 from corsair that I have gotten very used to. I can appreciate the homage to "2001: A Space Odyssey" with the Keyboard design, but I have a K70 with red LEDs at the moment and spend a lot of my computer time at night. Very interesting products, and as much as I would love to have them, I just do not have the room to store and extra peripheral setup. I followed already on Twitter, but I'm not really on it so what does that really mean? The only thing I want are the headphones.
  14. I'm aware, but i personally don't prefer cathodes when all I have to do is wait. I'm going to begin the painting soon, Plastidip is only $5.95 and I can print the stencil at home, Led's are relatively cheap as well, but I need molex splits to have better cable management with my current PSU.
