I don't recommend combinations setups unless you absolutely have too, a separate modem and router will always perform better. And the ones they sell to you aren't always the best quality.
If it were me, I'd just get the modem to go with the router, its a very easy setup and it should be a lot faster.

That modem will do great.
Coax from the wall goes into the modem, the modem has 1 ethernet port, that goes into the routers uplink port. then call FIOS and set up the modem with the mac id, then set up the router
EDIT:
This is how you set up a basic network in a normal broadband environment, I do not know what that extra CAT5e cable is for, you may want to talk to FIOS for more specific stuff.

i was looking at this modem https://www.amazon.com/ARRIS-SURFboard-SB6190-DOCSIS-Cable/dp/B016PE1X5K
im confused so you would connect the coax cable to it but does it need to be connected to my router using an ethernet cable or not or do i have to plug in the cat 5e cable from the wall

do you think i should do what you said and buy a modem or should i return the router and pay $150 for this router modem combo from verizon? https://www.verizon.com/home/accessories/fios-quantum-gateway/

verizon is fiber optic but only in the street
from the street to your house is copper cable

alexc026 got a reaction from Plavi in getting windows 10
you have to go to microsofts website on a seperate pc with at least one usb port free
go to this link and download the media creation tool https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-download/windows10/
plug in your usb thumb drive with at least 4gb of space
make sure you back up any files on the thumb drive
use the media creation tool
the creation tool will format (delete everything) on the thumb drive and create a bootable media
once the tool is done safely eject the usb thumb drive
plug in the usb thumb drive into your new pc
while starting the computer press f12 or delete continuously
this will bring up the boot menu you should choose to boot from the usb thumb drive once selected it will boot from there
you should get a windows icon and you will get on screen instructions on how to install windows 10
once you have installed it you can connect your pc to the internet by using ethernet or wifi and activate windows 10 with a license key

alexc026 got a reaction from -rascal- in Why are there so many models of the GTX 980Ti from a single manufacturer - EVGA?
im assuming you just were just describing the cards but this is what they actually stand for
King Pin- King Pin is the nickname of the overclocker who is amazing basically the card is binned or specifically selected and guaranteed to over clock high because their ASIC quality is higher
FTW- for the win highly overclocked and usually come with a backplate
SSC- super super clocked less overclocked than ftw usually comes with a backplate
SC- superclocked the least overclocked card out of the evga lineup still an overclocked card
most modern evga cards have the acx 2.0 cooler, stock cooler, or hybrid cooler (for the 970, 980, 980ti, and titan x)
evga doesnt have rgb lighting on any of their cards but gigabyte does http://www.gigabyte.us/products/product-page.aspx?pid=5710#kf
evga is a good brand so if you want a good overclockable card from a reputable brand id suggest them
gigabyte asus and msi are also other good brands you should consider

alexc026 got a reaction from Gadhoke in Why are there so many models of the GTX 980Ti from a single manufacturer - EVGA?
yes maximum temperature on nvidia cards before thermal throttling (the card turns down its clockspeed so it doesnt fry itself) occurs at 92 celsius
Edit: 92 celcius applies only to the 980ti

the stock cooler on graphics cards are ok on nvidia no hate to amd but their stock cooler is worse
nvidia stock cooler allows gpu boost to automatically overclock the card but temperatures get to 80-85 degrees celsius

In my experience TN is better for gaming and IPS is better for beautiful looks. That doesn't mean to say you can't use an IPS for gaming… I would go to a shop and see what you like best

I hope you guys realize he trolled you guys so bad and even if he is being serious Linus is an adult who doesn't care about people who hate him or criticize him
and if he's being serious he doesn't know what he's talking about LinusTechTips records videos in 4K then down samples them to 1080p this allows for better quality video

alexc026 got a reaction from ThomasD in Dirty move by Intel
Recently Intel has stated that they will release a microcode update to disable overclocking on non k skylake CPUs. I really think this is extremely stupid because paying an extra $50-75 dollars for an unlocked CPU is stupid. Intel should make their processors cheaper and should have more unlocked CPUs. Don't say that you won't just update your bios because that is not how a microcode update works. The microcode can be updated via a bios update or Windows will automatically download and install the microcode update as long as the update is digitally signed by Intel. Another example of Intel being dirty. When the pentium g3258 was released you could overclock on h81, h97, b85, z87, z97, but then Intel realized that they could release a microcode update to force people to get a z87/97 motherboard so they could get more money. What happened was Windows update would automatically install the update and if it detected you were using a chipset other than z87/97 it would automatically blue screen and you would have to disable the overclock to allow you to be able to use your computer. These are really dirty moves especially because when skylake was released Intel was bragging about how you could change the baseclock.

Yes they do because they make design and sell the chipsets to the motherboard vendors

I'd get dual channel memory because that will improve performance because it will increase memory bandwidth

alexc026 reacted to MageTank in Dirty move by Intel
My only problem with this entire situation, was that Intel came out and advertised the unstrapped clock gens as a feature. This was advertised before Skylake's release, it was hyped by Intel and several reviewers, and it is the sole reason this BCLK overclocking was allowed. Now that we started doing it to bypass the god awful 6600k/6700k prices (Seriously, $420 for a 6700k? No Thanks) it becomes a problem? Sorry, but it feels like they waited for us to buy into the hype, before pulling the rug out from under us.
Oh well. I archived the non-K overclocking BIOS's and disabled windows update with GPE. My overclocking is here to stay.

alexc026 got a reaction from Arwanell in RAM Latency
RAM latency refers to delays in transmitting data between the CPU and RAM. If you're looking to buy ram the higher the speed the higher the latency usually that is why high speed ram with low latency is so expensiveAlso much higher cas latency negates fast ram eg. 2133mhz ram with cas latency 20 because the amount of latency is reducing the performance benefit of the high clocked ram
