  1. Once I'd put a good quality (UHS class) SD card in it, PureData was quite happy. Occasionally (once every 25 minutes or so, but it varied) it would hang for about half a second, but was still usable. The no-brand audio interface was passable, I certainly wasn't going to fork out for an expensive one just for a raspberry pi. A good learning experience, but using a laptop with full amp simulation (Amplitube, Guitar Rig) was much better suited to my needs
  2. I managed to get something similar to this working, right up until I stepped on my cheap USB audio interface and irreparably broke it. Messing around with the .pd files was also quite good fun while it lasted.
  3. A few more questions... Can you hear the buzzing at all through the amp? It's normal to have a little fret buzz if you're using lighter gauge strings esp on the lower pitches if you're not playing through an amp. Do your strings buzz when they're open? How high (roughly) is your string action? A couple of points; If your saddles are the problem, then lowering it will make your problem worse. Raising it may help, you'll probably need a small hex key to turn the screws in them. The affinity Strats are notoriously cheaply made guitars, if funds allow, and you play enough to warrant it, I suggest you get a proper Fender. If you want to make sure it's set up properly (string action, truss rod relief, correct nut slots, saddle height) I'd highly recommend taking it to a guitar retailer, and asking them to set it up for you, the chances are they'll improve the guitars playability to its highest potential.
  4. This is $500 for the bookshelf version, or $550 for the floor-standing model. For something a bit smaller (and cheaper, but still v/good) In terms of receivers, for $200, this is very good.
  5. We moved our broadband from Sky over to BT after we chucked out our Satellite TV service (it was over £100 p/m for the phone TV and adsl broadband together). Upgraded to BT Infinity and got a BT Vision box as part of the process. The broadband is great, 38MB/s all day and all night, don't think we've ever had any down time. The Vision box is a bit crap, but it mainly gets used as a PVR anyway, and they chucked BT Sport in for free (Swiss league football FTW).
  6. It really depends really on what you mean by "better experience". With the "pre-built" distros, you'll find them much better suited for desktop applications, and a polished UI. They'll also have clearly defined update/upgrade paths. If you want a really lightweight experience, for integrated or headless applications, then rolling a lightweight distro will help with performance, and it's very easy to keep track of what components you've installed. In terms of security, you won't find much difference *edit* as posted above*
  7. People doing this is really starting to do my nut in. I wouldn't call it a disgrace, OP, just the times are changing. The idea isn't that much different from ordering your groceries online (which I'm still partially reluctant to do). Anyway, I'll regale you with a post of my first ever PC game.
  8. Yes, I know about it. Think it's alright, probably wouldn't strike up a GR conversation at the pub though. Mathematically it's boils down to something quite lovely, although learning everything around it mathematically was a bit a of a struggle (studying Minkovski space/Lorentzian manifolds/Riemann Tensors = not pleasant). Not really understanding what is being asked, so I'll end with my favourite Relativity joke.
  9. Boot up the live disk, try mounting the drive normally (by clicking it) click ok to the error. Open up a terminal window, and then type in 'cat /var/log/syslog' without the quotation marks, and post it here Here's a snippet of mine as an example
  10. You're going to struggle to write your own OS from the ground up. If you're looking for a place to start coding, learn Python/HTML/CSS/Javascript, then move up to Java/C#/C++/PHP, then you can learn something like Ruby, or if you're mentally unstable, Fortran. Writing your own OS from the ground up is not a good way to move into computer programming. You can't cook a gourmet meal without knowing how to turn the oven on. If you're looking for something to do though, and you're hell bent on building your own OS try looking here
  11. I think it around Wine 1.7.40 -ish, there were a couple of things I had to install (corefonts and msxml spring to mind) and a few over-rides, the same ones that were required to install 2010. When I get back, I'll have a look and see exactly what I did
  12. I didn't actually know they made a version for Windows?!! Thanks for enlightening me!
