Looks like you have your windows power settings to 'performance' mode.
If you want it to downclock when idle or lesser workloads switch to 'balanced'.
Edit: beyond that download Intel xtu and see what settings your chip is running at.

some users of giggy boards have reported incorrect CPU voltages (UEFI needs updating).
F7 is the latest update for that version.
either CPU-Z or UEFI investigation is needed to verify your issue a bit more.

You can use any comparible vBIOS with the cards. If they're both G1 gaming cards, they should work. I would suggest later flashing the custom vBIOS on the second card so it overclocks and is stable enough etc, but that's up to you.

I and a lot of notebook users use custom vBIOSes on our cards too (actually most of us in our community DON'T use stock vBIOSes), and often people flash one card before the other to make sure we don't brick anything, boot, check if working, then flash the second.

The only issue is that I can't predict how the voltages in SLI will work on the second card.

That sucks... they probably try to prevent people OC-ing too much that it will ruin the market of the 980s
    Thanks for your info btw
