  1. So I'm looking at 2 dell xps 13 models both with 8gb of ram, a 256gb ssd, and a qhd+ touchscreen. The only thing I'm not decided on is which processor, The performance difference isn't too important to me, but I wanted to know if there was a significant battery life difference between the two. If anyone has any info that would be great Thanks
  2. Advice for getting a used laptop: Get an old 2012 thinkpad X230, or wait for last years crop of laptops to lower in price. So I'm currently faced with a dilema. On the recommendation of another LTT forum member, I'm looking to buy the Lenovo Thinkpad X230 on amazon used, for about 200$ (Once I add in the ram, AC wireless card, new battery, and tax it comes to 300$). However, I was browsing a few much newer laptops like the surface book, xps 13 and so on, and noticed that the lower end models were selling between 450-700$ regularly as used. I even saw some high-end macbooks going for prices similar to those. I have a laptop right now that while it has crappy battery life, it could get me through the first semester of school. The main reason I'm looking for a new laptop is I need a portable and light laptop that has great battery life and at least modest specs (>=8GB or ram, any i5 or i7 low power CPU from the last 2 generations, or more powerful one's like the i5-3320M in the X230). Do you think that once the new batches of laptops hit the market, the prices will quickly come down. If I can snag a good XPS 13, Surface book or pro 4, or any similar thinkpad for ~300-500$, for me it would be worth the wait and price. If anyone has any experience, or advice that would be very helpful. Thanks
  3. I would, but its too slow (dual core celeron), and only has 2gb of ram
  4. Ya that's the older version of the toshiba chromebook link in my original post...It is cheaper though
  5. Yah, the newer ones are coming out with 4gb. Even a lightweight OS like chrome benifits a ton with the extra ram for people like me. With my current windows laptop, on startup when idle I use between 3-5gb depending on my startup programs....I love my RAM.
  6. So I'm looking for a laptop for school that is ~300$ USD. I'm ok with refurbished but it needs to have a battery life of at least 5-6hours. I prefer windows, but Chromebooks are ok. (Not gonna be doing heavy tasks). 4gb of ram is needed, and a faster processor (and/ or quad core) is preferred. Also, I prefer something smaller than 15in, but if there's a great value at 15in, I'll buy it. I typically use about 10-20 chrome tabs at a time. (Plus a few lightweight applications) Currently I'm looking at this dell. https://smile.amazon.com/Dell-Latitude-E6410-Laptop-Refurbished/dp/B01HEB1CP4/ref=sr_1_16?s=pc&ie=UTF8&qid=1470799951&sr=1-16&keywords=Dell+Latitude&refinements=p_36%3A15000-33000 and these two chromebooks https://www.amazon.com/dp/B015806LMM/ref=olp_product_details?_encoding=UTF8&me= https://www.amazon.com/Acer-Chromebook-Aluminum-Quad-Core-CB3-431-C5FM/dp/B01CVOLVPA/ref=sr_1_4?s=pc&ie=UTF8&qid=1470760908&sr=1-4&keywords=chromebook (A touchscreen is preferred but not necessary for a chromebook. ^these have better screens and processors than others of a similar price with a touchscreen) I'm also looking at the HP chromebook 11 g5, but I'm waiting till its goes on amazon, cause I'm using a lot of amazon gift credit to get this laptop. If anyone has any good suggestions for good laptops that meet these specs and price that would be very helpful. Thanks
  7. So a few months ago I lost a pair of my bose sound sport earbuds that I got for around 70$ Anyways I'm going on a trip soon (and starting school), and I wanted to get a pair of earbuds that wouldn't break the bank. under 25 is preferable, anything past 30 or 35 is stretching it. A mic and or remote would be great but isn't a deal breaker (FYI I have a Samsung galaxy phone). I care most about comfort and sound quality. Comfort is huge, and I would like at least decent sound quality. Does anybody have any suggestions? Thanks EDIT - Durability and/or a good warranty is also important, I don't baby my earbuds, I just throw them in my pocket, so I don't like fragile earbuds that break easily
  8. What's the best mechanical keyboard under 80$ (85$ stretching it) It has to have a numpad, and some form of backlight, cherry mx blue, brown, or other switch works. I don't care much about fancy gaming features, but what's the best mechanical keyboard for productivity, and light gaming? Thanks EDIT- Currently looking at this (https://www.amazon.com/CM-Storm-QuickFire-TK-Mechanical/dp/B00A378L4C/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1469133175&sr=8-1&keywords=CM+Storm+QuickFire+TK) for 79$ with cherry mx blues
  9. Those are good keyboards, but the only one with a numpad is the CM Storm QuickFire TK and its 77$ min...
  10. So I am looking for a good mechanical keyboard, around 40-70$ for productivity, and occasional gaming. It has to be mechanical and have a numpad, but other "gamer" features I don't really care about. Having a few macros would be nice, and maybe a volume scroll wheel, but other than that I just need a solid keyboard. I'm okay with used from amazon, and I was looking into the Logitech g710+ for about 70$ USD. If anyone had any other suggestions that would be great.
  11. So I need to get a new access point to extend the wifi coverage in my house. What matters most to me is range (and obviously speed at long range). I don't care about it being simple to setup, or things like bandwidth managment, and I dont care about the difference in price. If anyone had any opinion about whether the Xclaim XI-3 or the Google onhub (or other similarly priced AP) has the best range, and is the best AP that would be very helpful. Thanks
  12. So I have a raspberry pi 3, and a servo (DGServo 8g to be exact) with the normal 3 pins. I have read guides online with people using a breadboard and external battery to control them. However is it possible to allow them to work by plugging them in directly to the GPIO pins rather than buying a breadboard, battery , etc? Thanks
  13. So I'm on a budget, and want to get a monitor for no more than 100$ (On amazon, but I'm okay with used). I'm gonna use it to hook up a chromecast, maybe a raspberry pi, and maybe even plug into my gaming laptop (at separate times). 1080p is a necessity, and HDMI is highly preferable (display port is okay). Also IPS is highly preferrable (I'm gonna be walking around and looking at it not straight) Right now im looking at https://www.amazon.com/HP-Pavilion-21-5-Inch-HDMI-Monitor/dp/B015WCV70W/ref=sr_1_1?s=pc&ie=UTF8&qid=1467928653&sr=1-1&keywords=monitor but if anyone has any other ideas for a better or different monitor it would be much appreciated! Thanks
  14. So I currently have a very scratched, and kinda broken (bought it used cheaply), pebble time. I was looking into buying a good used REAL smartwatch from the new gen that have decreased in price. I was looking at the Moto 360 sport, and the Gear S2. The sport is ~140$ on amazon, and the Gear s2 is ~160$. I want to use it for running casually 3-5 times a week (about 10-15 miles a week), and use hr tracking. I know that the sport has GPS which is huge, because I will not be running with my phone, however not having GPS is not a complete dealbreaker. If the regular smartwatch use is much worse on the Moto, than I will happily take the Gear s2 (I have a note 4), but if the difference is very close, than I would probably go with the Moto because of GPS. If anyone has any comments on the watches, and their normal functionality that would be great. To me, the screens are both good, the rotating bezel is kinda cool but not necessary, and the not replaceable straps are annoying but okay. If you could give me you thoughts and opinions that would be great Thanks
