  1. Oh dear, it looks like it's time to stop using the same password for everything and to change it
  2. For a single gpu system 650w is almost always enough It depends on which specific one
  3. It would work but a new one would be suggested. I don't know of any 80+ standard units that are good quality so I'm pretty sure yours isn't great. Plus, a new one would be quieter, more efficient, and be less difficult to build with due to modular cables.
  4. Yeah, that was the main reason I was considering switching. But Firefox had some major performance issues on my laptop that chrome didn't have (e.g. Small stutter upon resuming a tab I hadn't used for a while, weird stutter/screen tear on videos, and a much worse profile manager which I use a lot). It worked fine on desktop but if it didn't work on my laptop I wasn't going to use it on my desktop because of tab sync stuff. And I also wasn't going to switch on mobile because after doing some research thenchrome android app uses WAYYY less ram than Firefox.
  5. Something like this? Prices are from Germany so maybe some stuff may be more expensive if you're not from germany. PCPartPicker part list / Price breakdown by merchant CPU: AMD - Ryzen 5 2600 3.4 GHz 6-Core Processor (€157.90 @ Mindfactory) Motherboard: ASRock - B450 Pro4 ATX AM4 Motherboard (€85.99 @ Amazon Deutschland) Memory: Corsair - Vengeance LPX 16 GB (2 x 8 GB) DDR4-3000 Memory (€122.90 @ Amazon Deutschland) Storage: Crucial - MX500 500 GB M.2-2280 Solid State Drive (€71.90 @ Amazon Deutschland) Video Card: Sapphire - Radeon RX VEGA 56 8 GB NITRO+ Video Card (€399.00 @ Amazon Deutschland) Case: Fractal Design - Define S ATX Mid Tower Case (€76.90 @ Amazon Deutschland) Power Supply: SeaSonic - FOCUS Plus Gold 550 W 80+ Gold Certified Fully-Modular ATX Power Supply (€78.99 @ Amazon Deutschland) Total: €993.58 Prices include shipping, taxes, and discounts when available Generated by PCPartPicker 2018-12-04 04:06 CET+0100 I didn't grab an NVMe SSD because for what you'll be doing (storing OS, apps, games, etc.) it's really not worth it. There will be little to no difference between an NVMe ssd and a solid SATA SSD like the mx500 https://techreport.com/review/30813/samsung-960-pro-2tb-ssd-reviewed/5 I chose a Vega 56 because your monitor has freesync, so I think that'd be a good thing to take advantage of. Also, you might have some options for the case. I'm not sure if you want a window or not or what specific aesthetics you'd like so I just chose the define s which is a pretty solid all around case. If you want something more flashy (or with rgb?) or with a windows you might want something else.
  6. I was considering switching to Firefox a while back and I did a little research on it and nowadays Chrome is actually better than many other browsers like firefox when it comes to ram usage. The difference isn't huge but in general Firefox does use more. I tested it myself and with the same tabs open it was something like 3.5 gb vs 3.8
  7. Usually if you're using it for intake I would put it at the front.
  8. I have an SB2 and it happened to me too; I got like three BSODs in two days before I got pissed off enough to search it up and roll back the update. No BSODs since.
  9. For sure, understanding a lot of stuff requires a ton of math. But "getting" the overlying concepts of much of computer architecture itself shouldn't require too much math; it's really when looking at the low level at circuits and stuff where math is heavily used and if you just ignore that part it isn't needed much from what I've seen.
  10. Yeah it should run cooler, quieter, and perhaps with a bit lower voltage as well.
  11. I agree though I would get a different SSD instead. Either this slightly cheaper (and better) MX300 or a slightly more expensive MX500 or 860 evo https://it.pcpartpicker.com/product/2VWrxr/crucial-mx300-525gb-25-solid-state-drive-ct525mx300ssd1 https://it.pcpartpicker.com/product/ft8j4D/crucial-mx500-500gb-25-solid-state-drive-ct500mx500ssd1 https://it.pcpartpicker.com/product/6yKcCJ/samsung-860-evo-500gb-25-solid-state-drive-mz-76e500bam
  12. You might be able to go a little higher but ryzen 2 tends to refuse to go above 4.2 ish on standard cooling so I doubt you'd see a big difference
  13. Specifically for computer architecture (mostly CPUs) I know a couple of books about them: The first one is Practical Electronics for Inventors. This is a book about electronics in general and how stuff like capacitors, resistors, inductors, transistors, etc. work and the equations that can describe them and how they work together. It's basically a general informational book about how electronics in general works. I recommend reading it before any books seriously about computer architecture, though it's not completely necessary. The second one is called Art of Electronics. This book is also about electronics but it's a reference book so it's more of something to reference, not teach you stuff. It has a lot of info in it but it's not that great for just learning stuff, from what I've seen. It seems pretty dense. Then, there's Computer Organization and Design, the Hardware/Software Interface. This is a straight up book about computer architecture that (I think) is for beginners. This is the one I'm reading right now. So far, there hasn't been anything that needs too advanced stuff and it's quite interesting. Then, there's Computer Systems: A Programmer's Perspective. This one is a book about computer architecture from a programmers perspective (duh). You do a fair bit of coding, too. The last one is Computer Architecture, A Quantitative Approach. This is a more advanced book about computer architecture. BTW, some knowledge of a bit more advanced math might be required, especially for the electronics books. Calculus (which I only know a little bit of) is used from time to time but not necessary. Complex numbers are used and I think there's a little trigonometry involved, though I think this is only needed in the electronics books. I personally skimmed over a lot of the equations and just got the gist of the ideas. I only know a little about trig and complex numbers so I could sorta understand the stuff but not completely. IDK how much math you know. You should be able to find PDFs of most of these online that are DEFINITELY legal . If you have trouble finding any you can ask me and I'll try digging up the links.

    $150 for a 1TB Samsung SSD? I want it. ??‍♂️ ht…

There's no good reason to buy the QVO while the EVO is cheaper. Endurance is better, and performance once the SLC cache is used up is WAYYY better on the EVO. Once the SLC cache runs out on the QVO write speeds drop to something stupid like 80-100 MB/s. The only advantage QVOs should theoretically have would be price and ATM that's not the case
  16. That would be ok except that better TLC SSDs (860 evo and MX500 for example) are available for cheaper now... I don't think there's any modern SLC SSDs available. Even MLC is getting rare: only a couple enterprise drives and Samsung Pro drives use it at this point. Most drives now are TLC
  17. Avx workloads generally are more strenuous than normal workloads. An avx offset will decrease cpu clock speed during these workloads to stay stable which may let you clock the cpu higher in other workloads. Reducing temperature reduces voltage leakage which means you may be able to reach 5 ghz with less voltage.
  18. That's not a great psu, I'd suggest something else. Cx/cxm grey sticker is usually a cheaper solid unit. If you're willing to pay more seasonic focus, corsair TXM, evga g1+/g2/g3, or corsair rmx/rmi are all solid options.
  19. Basically there are small variations that may occur when manufacturing the silicon dies that affect how high they can clock; how much voltage they need; how much power they need, etc. It seems that anandtech just got a really good sample and yours is a little below average. You could try ramping up the fan speed on your cooler to reduce the temps a little bit; that may let you reach 5 ghz more easily. You could also try messing with the avx offset.
  20. See my edit ? I accidentally hit submit too early so I didn't include the other stuff in my original post. No you're totally right. If you tend to have a lot of things running at the same time all doing work a 1950x could be a better option. Rendering, say, in premiere would be less likely to have a large performance impact if you're also using illustrator at the same time.
  21. To add on the windows 10 stuff, you could also just use the OS without a product key. You do lose a few things (namely some customization options) but it'll work fine. The only thing that might be annoying is the activate windows 10 watermark that'll appear in the bottom right corner though there are some ways to disable it.
  22. If you enable iGPU acceleration with something like an 8700k or 9700k it performs similarily to the 1950x in many cases while being a lot cheaper. https://www.gamersnexus.net/guides/3310-adobe-premiere-benchmarks-rendering-8700k-gpu-vs-ryzen EDIT: Sorry accidentally hit submit a little too early, I wanted to add that there is a slight loss in quality but it's a very small difference. You can take a look for yourself here Also for comparison in other applications, here's 8700k vs 2950x https://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/amd-ryzen-threadripper-2950x-2990wx-cpu,5797-7.html As you can see, it does depend somewhat... Illustrator and Photoshop tend to do a bit better on Intel CPUs, whereas after affects does better on TR.
  23. What specific applications? Depending on what you're using TR may not be the best choice (Adobe, for example, doesn't make great use of the extra cores and may actually prefer Intel CPUs due to iGPU acceleration)
  24. Unfortunately idk exactly how good the drive is... if you won't be doing anything too strenuous on it for $40 it's a good price. If it's $80 you can get much better for cheaper such as this BX500 https://au.pcpartpicker.com/product/mdc48d/crucial-bx500-240gb-25-solid-state-drive-ct240bx500ssd1 OP is in Australia not US
  25. For the last two benchmarks here are images that don't have the youtube bar ?
