Spudbilly reacted to Alex Atkin UK in Maximizing Gigabit home internet question
The results you are already getting are what is to be expected. Hitting Gigabit over WiFi is pure luck and being close to the router/Access Point.

Spudbilly reacted to manikyath in Maximizing Gigabit home internet question
uploading/downloading big things is best done over cable, even if only for arguments of stability.
for the other stuff, honestly.. it's not worth the thousands of bucks you'll spend carpetbombing your house in high end access points to have good coverage.

Spudbilly reacted to Kilrah in Maximizing Gigabit home internet question
You'll want wired networking.
Through WiFi you might be able to max it out but through simultaneous connections from multiple devices IF the router is capable enough.

Spudbilly reacted to --SID-- in Psu good enough?
Dude, G-series 550w came with two 6+2 pins so what's the problem? You did cut off 2 pins?
-
Spudbilly reacted to --SID-- in Psu good enough?
G-Series 550w should be fine.
It comes with 2x 6+2 pin so no prob here.

Spudbilly reacted to SavageNeo in Psu good enough?
YES. that depends on the power supply itself, and how much curretn can go torugh the 12V. but pins do matter if the psu is a decent unit, and can actually supply enough wattage on the 12V rail.
your psu is fine

@lagunare I have split your comments to your own topic. Please do not hijack other topics for your own issues. Referencing another's topic is fine but please be sure to start your own topic as in some/most cases the issue and resolution may not be the same.

Spudbilly reacted to BondiBlue in Display to hdmi port question
You don't need an active adapter. You would need an active adapter if you were trying to use a DisplayPort display with an HDMI source, which is something I do quite often. You're going the other way though, so you're fine with a standard DP to HDMI cable or adapter.
-
Spudbilly reacted to Kaaverik in Display to hdmi port question
Hello,
Any Displayport to HDMI cable should work. You should not need an active adapter anymore, all modern GPUs require or have DP++ (display port dual mode) that allows Displayport to display via the HDMI interface through an adapter/cable.
I hope this information helps!

Spudbilly reacted to Aaron_T in XMP profile causes post failure
@SpudbillySince you want to keep the board, your options are limited.
I'd say a board BIOS update would be worth trying if there is one available. Then try the 4 sticks.
If there is no update or it doesn't work, then the only thing you can do is sell your RAM and get a 2 stick kit of the capacity you want.

All good. Although the gpu is quite old.
With windows, normally you can transfer without problems.
But advisable to backup your important files if you ever need to fresh install.

Spudbilly reacted to Mira Yurizaki in Bottle-necking CPU and GPU Advice
That site is of almost little use because bottlenecking, as you say, depends on whether or not the game is CPU intensive.
In this situation, I'd say figure out how much you want to spend on a new video card and get the best one you can afford. At the end of the day you're likely to get an upgrade even if you can't use the card's full power.

Spudbilly reacted to Enderman in Help thermal paste dried on gpu pins
Those are not pins, and it also doesn't matter if they get thermal paste on them because the thermal paste is non-conductive.

R9 380/x is the very best in that budget, and there are some decent ones:

Spudbilly reacted to Marhier in Better alternative to ASUS Dual GeForce RTX 2060 Advanced Edition 6 GB GDDR6?
That's a decent rig you got there mate, no question.
If you wanted to game at 4k 60fps at highest settings, perhaps the RTX 2060 wasn't the best choice.
I'm not overly sure how well the 2060 preformes at 4k, but id imagine you'd have to turn down settings or decrease your gaming resolution.
The '60 line of an nVidia generation are usually mid range
A 1080Ti is a much better option over the stupidly priced counterpart - 2080Ti.
I'd have gotten a second hand 1080Ti personally - I've seen some for roughly £450; my dad just bought one and was pristine.
Marhier!

Spudbilly reacted to kelvinhall05 in Would you guys also upgrade?
Your CPU needs an upgrade before your GPU does. At the very least I'd get a 7700K, preferably used.

Building new one just sold that system. Thanks though. Probably still buy the rtx 2060. Thanks

Spudbilly reacted to Zeitec in What's a better graphics card? An EVGA GeForce gtx 1660 xc ultra, or an MIS Radeon rx 580 8gb?
1660 by far. That RX 580 is a really really bad RX 580, where the XC Ultra is a very high end 1660. 1660 is also faster and consumes less power than RX 580.

Spudbilly reacted to Eastman51 in Vega 56 Blower Cards
A 4770 non k is still decent. If you do upgrade soon, definitely go Ryzen 3000.
